Chapter 5 - Chapter Five

Bowdey groaned slowly. Opening his eyes, he looked around. He was in the dungeon below his families home. He tried to move his arms; but found them shackled above his head to the wall behind him. Pulling against the chains proved to do nothing as pain rippled through his body and he let out an animalistic growl. "Aaaagghh! Mmmgh....Ugh! Tyler!? Aunt Sky!!! Someone let me go! Tell me what the hell is going on!?" He screamed as the door opened suddenly. His mom, aunt and Tyler all walked inside. They left the door open and Bowdey noticed his sister standing, with the same pained expression Tyler held, just beyond the door.

"Why am I in here?! Let me go...tell me what the hell is going on and let me go!! Talk to me!" They all remained silent looking at him as anger pulsed through him. Tyler looked away, close to tears that he was even forced to bare witness to this. He and Bowdey had grown up together and were closer than brother's. Tyler's parent's had been Hunter's like Bowdey's; but were killed when both boys were still little. Bowdey's family had took Tyler in after that. "Grrr..Aaagh!" Bowdey's head slumped forward as he stopped pulling against the chains. His right shoulder was swollen and completely out of place. Finally Tyler spoke. "Please just get him down. We can't keep him chained up like this." Tyler pleaded.

A voice behind them suddenly boomed, filling the room. "What the hell is going on?! Why is he chained? Get him down! Now!" They all turned, fear filling them. "Deacon....let me explain." Anger flooded through his entire core. "No Lea look at him! Get him down right now or I swear I will hang you there by your damn neck!" Deacon growled. When nobody moved, he pushed past them, unlocking the chains as Bowdey fell against his father's chest. Deacon wrapped one of his son's arms gently around his neck as Tyler suddenly grabbed the other and they half carried him upstairs. They laid him down gently on his bed, as Deacon walked into the bathroom grabbing a washcloth. Bowdey slowly came to as his father gave him an apologetic look.

"Here son." He said rolling the rag and holding it for Bowdey to bite down on. "We are going to have to put your shoulder back in place. Are you ready?" He watched as Bowdey swallowed hard shaking his head. His dad took his arm, and in one swift movement, popped it back in place. Bowdey bit down on the rag hard, groaning loudly. They helped him sit up as he held his arm. "What happened?" His dad asked. Bowdey took a few deep breaths trying to form the words. "I don't know dad. It's hard to explain; but it feels like me and Makenna are....connected somehow. I can feel her in my head, feel her pain, her heartbeat." The anger flared again as Lea walked into the room. When Deacon turned to look at her, he could see the raw fear in her eyes.

"What have you done?" He tried to remain calm. "I didn't do anything." "Look at him Lea!" "I am Deacon. I was trying to help him." He rose now with force, walking to stand right in front of her. "How was that helping him Lea?! You chained my son in the same cell ta has held countless amounts of other half breeds. You hurt him as though he was one of them!?" "Deacon I think she tried to turn him. I'm not sure why; but I think she did." Now Deacon remained still. "What?" He turned to looked at his son, who was still sitting on the bed, now talking to Tyler. He looked the same as he always did. Could it be possible that inside of him, his blood was turning? Could he literally be changing right before their eyes because of one half breed? "Maybe we didn't go about it the right way; but we were trying." Lea said pulling him back from his thoughts. "You better hope not and that we can figure it out, or I will put you down there." "What are we supposed to do? We have tried a few different things; but nothing is making a difference." Lea explained. "If it's true and she tried to change him, maybe the earth witches could stop it before it is done?" Sky said slowly, now walking into the room with them. "And if not?" Deacon asked. Sky didn't respond. In all honesty, what were they supposed to do? If she hadn't tried changing him then why could he feel her? Why was he getting weaker? It only made sense that she had tried; but why? What did she have to gain by making him like her? Unless she did it and didn't realize, or she did hoping that he wouldn't be able to handle it and would just kill himself? All the questions were suddenly making Deacon's head hurt; but he had to find some reasoning so he could help his son.
