NORMAN'S POV
"Am I hallucinating? I mean we just killed them not long ago, didn't we?"
Steve said as he tried to convince himself.
"Steve, they are so real, we just came out from the land of the witches. Anything is bound to happen."
I explained to Steve as we came down from our horses.
"By their look they are sure witches, with scales all over their body, long nails, long tongue that elongated out from their mouth when they talk
I enlightened Steve about witches. They laughed loudly at us.
"Of course we are witches. Do you think you can kill us that easily."
One of them said as they walked closer with her tongue moving in and out as she spoke.
"I have heard that the easiest way to kill a witch is with fire and that any other thing is uneffective."
I gave Steve a hint as we got ready to fight them.
"My king, by chance did you come with fire?"
Steve mockingly asked me, as they just approached with their long nails sweeping in front of our face.
"No Steve, but you can lend me a helping hand if you've got any."
I responded to Steve as we looked at each other. We broke our gaze as we turned to fight two witches that ran towards us.
"My king, didn't you find any other way to kill these things?"
Steve asked as he hoped for it to have another way apart from fire, which was impossible for it to get.
"That's…........"
I was talking to Steve when one sneaked through my back and cut the words off my mouth.
" All I Know, Steve."
I completed my words. My breath skips as I speak.
"I think we should knock them down, that could buy us time to leave or find how to kill them without a fire before they...…..perhaps I should say resurrect."
Steve suggested as we started knocking them down one after another.
Within a few minutes everywhere had become quiet. Their bodies laid on the ground.
We quickly hopped up on our horses and headed back home, running quite fast. Before we crossed the border we could hear them from afar but luckily we were able to cross before they got to us.We arrived at Bayley before midnight.
In the morning the council members came to the castle to inquire about our journey. We explained everything to them. And we have resorted to keeping a tight security around the pack as no one knows where, when or how the assassin would strike.
They welcomed the idea of tight security as we do not have an option for now.
I called Sean by the evening as I remembered the task I gave him. He arrived quickly after I called.
"Good evening, Alpha Norman."
He greeted me with a smile all over his face as he entered my chamber.
"Sean, how was it? Did you find anything?
I asked hoping I could hear good news for a long time but no.
"Not yet my king, the investigation is still going on. We will surely find something soon."
Sean said as he gave me a bit of hope. I faintly smiled at him.
"Alright then Sean, just try to find out what it was, I have a strong instinct about it."
I said to Sean as I came back from the wine bar with two glasses of wine while I handed one to Sean.
We drank and laughed for sometime before Sean headed back home. He was worried about his wife's well being and wanted to go be with her.
I got a little Jealous, if not for the fact that Sean was my childhood friend and also my best friend. I Wouldn't have allowed him to take her away from me but he was such a good man and he cares so much about his wife.
I never bothered about his wife's well being when she was mated to him as I knew he would definitely take Care of her.
Late at night I sat down on the edge of my bed thinking of who my mate might have been if I had been mated. I felt so lonely all the time I was alone in my bed, especially after I saw others with their mates. I wondered why my own would be different. All my age mates and my friends have all found their mate except me who was their Alpha. That's unfair to me.
I stood up from my bed and walked down the corridor.
"Oh Goddess of the moon, have I done something wrong to deserve this? Please I need my mate, haven't I suffered enough?"
I walked out of the castle to the woods. After I ran some miles away, I went to my place on the mountain hill.
I howled three times hoping to hear the only voice that always calmed my heart, but I couldn't hear a thing. I howled through the night and retired home in the morning.
Throughout the whole day I was not myself, I got angry by the slightest thing. I was so angry throughout the whole day.
I went back the next nightfall but still couldn't hear her hum.
In the morning I decided to take a stroll outside the castle, but this time I was with my Beta. We strolled around the pack as we checked how the pack members were reacting to the situation at home.
Some parts of the pack are under tension while some are not. We also went to the market and everything was all good.
We spoke to some heads of the councils as we assured them that everything was under control.
"My king, is everything alright with you?"
Steve asked, as we were on our way back home.
"I am fine, Steve."
I briefly answered him as we continued to walk back towards the castle. I was not in the mood to talk to anyone.
"But my king, you look......"
I cut him from his words as he insisted on inquiring of my well being.
"I'm Alpha Norman, the Almighty Alpha of Bayley pack, right? So what could possibly be wrong with me."
I said to Steve and he was looking at me, lost in his thoughts. He knew something was wrong with me but couldn't figure out what it was.
We walked home without uttering a word to each other.
I went to my room and couldn't get my head straight. I kept thinking that something had happened to the strange humming girl. It felt insecure not hearing her hum.
"This is strange."
I whispered to myself. Walking out from my room, I went to the balcony and laid my elbows as I looked down to view the environment outside the castle. The ocean located at the back of the castle was shining as the blue sky reflected on it. The View was beautiful.
"How beautiful I would be if I was with my mate."
I said bitterly as I thought of viewing the beautiful ocean with my mate standing beside me.
Strangely anytime I thought of my mate, my mind would suddenly go to the strange humming girl.
I don't know why I can't take my mind away from the hum. It was as if I was addicted to the hum, as her voice kept ringing like a bell in my heart waking up the urge to be with my unfound mate, but at the same time it filled the urge the moment I heard her voice humming.
"Could it be that I have fallen ..........no that could not be."
