MEERA'S POV
The voices all around me faded as I tried my best to 'pull myself together'. That's what Aunt Samira had called it. Pull yourself together before you fall apart completely and it felt like I had gotten to that point. I just hoped it wasn't too late because I was starting to feel the pain of his betrayal all over again like a relentless wave washing through me. There was no lifeboat and there was definitely no lifeguard around to rescue me from drowning.
The crowd moved past me but I couldn't see them or feel them. It was like my body was there but the core of my being had been forcefully yanked off away to another dimension. A dimension that knew only pain, regrets, and sadness.
