Chapter 26 - Departure

"Suit yourself."

He turned around in his wheelchair.

I didn't understand his deliberate avoidance of my gaze, but I didn't think much of it.

"Nate, shall we go now?"

I put my hand on the arm of his wheelchair.

"Forget what to call me?"

His voice came from the front, and though I couldn't see his expression, I suddenly had a feeling that we were a real couple, because there was a hint of indulgence in his voice.

"Dear..."

"Well, come on."

Nate Archibald gulped and swallowed.

Her voice was like that of a cat, soft and delicate, and made him feel tight.

Dammit, is it time for spring?

...

It took a full hour to reach the ancestral home.

As soon as the car stopped, I opened the door and got out. Aaron and I walked slowly into the house, holding Nate Archibald.

The ancestral house is worthy of its name. It has a dignified and solemn feeling before it gets close to it. If I hadn't said so in advance, I might have thought it was a tourist attraction somewhere.

Rounding the long corridor, I entered the quaint hall. On the chair at the head sat an old man with tall hair.

You could see his age, but he was very bright, very energetic.

"Hum!"

Seeing us enter, the old man snorted coldly, then spoke:

"Nate, am I coddling you too much? You must give a reason for what happened today!"

I know this old man is Nate Archibald's father, Bart Archibald.

"For what?"

Nate Archibald threw his hands together as if he didn't know anything.

His attitude succeeded in provoking the Don, who banged his cane so hard that the ground banged.

"Do I have to piss you off? Let the Sparks family's daughter go! Was there no one else's daughter at all? You're going to marry a prisoner you don't even know about? What do you think people will think of my Archibald family?! And you boy, even I all hide!"

Nate Archibald gave me a nonchalant look.

As soon as I got the signal, I straightened up and said, "Dad, I just met you. My name is Jenny Rhodes. I got married to Nate yesterday.

I know this kind of self-introduction of behavior is not counted as the first car after the make-up ticket?

I don't know, but it really made his dad mad. The Don looked at me with disdain in his eyes. "You don't deserve to know what I'm calling you! I don't deserve to be in my Archibald house! After a while, if you go out to divorce, I will find someone to delete your registration records. This thing has never happened!"

Worthy of being the first family, speaking is tough.

Does he really think a family can handle the sky with one hand? Do you want to influence the civil affairs system of the country?

I had a burst of sneer, but the surface was still as usual, just like a young girl who is ignorant and asked: "Dad, where are you not satisfied with me? I can change it all."

"Don't call my dad! I can't bear it!"

Bart Archibald was furious. He had never imagined that his son would marry such a shameless woman.

"What's the matter, Dad? How am I supposed to know if you don't? What if I don't know how to change it?

If you think it's my birth family that doesn't match his, then THERE's nothing I can do about it, but as far as I know, the Sparks family isn't a first-class family, and a marriage wouldn't be good for Archibald's reputation or business.

So if any woman can do it, why not me?"

"You! Are you shameless again?"

Bart Archibald slapped himself on the heart.

A woman prisoner who has just been released from prison thinks that?

Do you really think you're up there with a lady of fortune?
