Chapter 35 - Chapter 35 Time to Be A Fool

BANG!

Aidan punched a beast right in the jaw with his own fist. He didn't use any skills yet. He wanted to save some energy. Only when he truly needed it would he use his skill.

Kalukaga spun his hamaxe. It was remarkable how his weapon stayed sharp even after he cut dozens of beasts already. Anytime the beasts pounced on him, he would cut their face or slammed their heads with the hammer part.

The weapon had great versatility. One to crush the other to cut.

Aidan could only use his hand.

He tightened his fists and slammed them right on the beast's jaw. The beast was knocked upward, saliva came out of its teeth. Aidan rushed forward and pummeled the beast with his fists.

He couldn't fight more than one beast at a time like Kalukaga or Feval, but he'd tried his best to kill them as fast as possible.

"The beasts have surrounded us!" Feval shouted. "I will break through the north side. All of you follow me and we will escape together!"

Aidan nodded to that. He admired Feval's ability to think in such a stressful situation. He knew that everyone else would not leave, so he asked them to follow him. That way everyone would be saved.

Everyone except those who had already fallen.

The beast pounced on one man, biting his neck, and pulling it out savagely. That ended the man's life immediately.

Aidan couldn't save him. He grimaced. If he was stronger then no one would die such a tragic death on his watch.

He gritted his teeth and fought with a lot more energy. This time, he used his fate energy slightly to strengthen his attack.

Feval leaped back and landed in front of the group. Then he charged north, slicing every beast that got in his way. "Push!"

Ledrind was like the spirit of flame on the battlefield. His eyes glowed bright red, and his whole body was engulfed with fire. He sprayed flames in every direction, but Aidan didn't feel any heat at all even when the flame went through him.

It was such an amazing sight to see the flames enveloping him.

Magic was truly amazing.

Aidan dashed forward and choked a beast.

Shaman's beast? Didn't they have a better name for these monsters?

Aidan immediately put that thought away as he activated [Analyze].

HP: 150

Energy: 0

Skills: Bite, Claw attack

So it was a level four monster. No wonder Aidan had a slightly hard time fighting them. He could defeat them quite easily but their bodies were resilient. This forced him to use his fate energy which was something he tried to avoid.

At this time, Feval and Ledrind had pushed through the north for a while. Dozens of beasts died. Burned. Cut. Or destroyed into a pulp. None died this time as Ledrind focused on reinforcing the others.

"There's a ravine in front of us!" Feval shouted again. "If we can jump over then we'll survive!"

That would be their goal. Jump over the ravine and ran away.

Aidan hoped the beast couldn't jump over too. If that happened then there was no hope. There were too many beasts and everyone would run out of energy before being swarmed by them.

Aidan leaped on top of a beast, kicked its head with [Powered Kick], and leaped back as he looked towards the ravine.

The distance was at least four hundred meters away from where they were.

"The ravine is close!" Aidan shouted. "Let's push together!"

"Yeah!" They shouted and attacked with frenzy.

Ledrind floated in the air. Suddenly, the air rippled and a shock wave of flames burst from his body. It went past Aidan's body and burned all the beast into crisp.

"Hurry!"

The beast a few hundred meters around them were completely cleared. This was their chance to get to the ravine before the wave of beasts slowed them again.

Aidan ran. He saw Gomon running with his little feet and quickly grabbed him. Kalukaga and Siraye had no problem with catching up. In fact, they were faster than him. Sofiel was good too. She had wind under her feet, lifting her up and pushing her forward.

Neat.

Three hundred meters.

Aidan and the group ran, Throwing their arms back and forth as they tried to run.

The beasts didn't stay still. They started filling the area again. Chasing them with all their might.

The sound of footsteps and paws was apparent. It was followed by the growling of beasts and groaning of men.

Two hundred meters.

Almost. They almost reach the ravine. Just a little bit and they would escape.

A hole caught Aidan's feet. He stumbled slightly but he quickly stabilized himself and kept on running.

"Aidan put me down. I can run by myself," Gomon said.

Aidan gritted his teeth. "Stop talking nonsense or I might really drop you."

"Okay, don't do that. I still want to live."

Aidan turned his head back and grimaced. The beasts were approaching at high speed. Humans weren't designed to run fast, so it would be a matter of time before the beast catch up.

One hundred meters.

Come on. Come on. Just a little bit. Just a little bit. They can do it. They had to.

The land on the other side of the ravine was clear for them to see. Tall trees hemmed it, long Vines dangling from its branches.

They could use that to swing over.

As Aidan got closer, he realized that the ravine was much wider than he thought. And the land on the other side was slightly higher.

This meant that the risk of falling was high. The ones who could surely survive would be the Chosen.

He had to help the rest.

But the beasts were already on their tail. Stopping for them would be risky. But he had to do it.

Call me a fool, but at least I have a heart. I've been saved by many fools before.

He and his father had always picked the smart decisions. But it wasn't necessarily a good one.

The decision had always haunted his mind.

Now it was time to be a fool to redeem himself.

Aidan stopped at the edge of the ravine. "See you on the other side." He threw Gomon high into the air.

"You should have warned me before you throw!" Gomon shouted as he arched toward the ground.

Aidan had experience in throwing people over a deep hole. So he immediately grabbed two men and threw them to the other side as fast as he can.

Other people were surprised and weren't ready for it, but the Grimmnian acted like they already expect it. They extended their hand and let Aidan grab them before throwing them away.

Aidan turned to look back one more time.

The beasts were already here.
