"What does Big Brother want me to do?" Wraith asked.
"It is entirely up to you." Valder said.
Wraith cocked his head to the side and pondered for a moment. Then he jumped on Valder's shoulder and began to whisper in his ear.
Despite her keen hearing, Kira was unable to listen to what Wraith and Valder were saying to each other. It must be part of Wraith's power.

Wraith and Valder's private conversation:
"Big Brother wants me to protect Special Baby?" Wraith asked.
"Yes." Valder replied.
"And Empress?" Wraith asked.
Valder nodded in acknowledgement. He'd long accepted that Wraith referred to Kira as an Empress. He didn't know why he called her that, yet he felt it was appropriate.
"Empress does not need Wraith's protection." Wraith said matter-of-factly.
"Perhaps." Valder concurred. He really had no idea of Kira's capabilities. But he knew she was no ordinary woman. And likely not even human. But he had no idea what that was.
