Valder was carried into the city by the press of people. Not wanting to continue conversing with the merchants, he quickly lost himself in the crowd.
There were so many it was stifling. And one wrong move could send the mob into a panic. And that was exceedingly dangerous. Many innocents could lose their lives if that happened. And he did not want to be one of them.
He needed to find a vantage point from which he could observe without being in harm's way. He found it in a recessed alcove on a balcony that was high enough on the building that he could see the entire square clearly.
He now had an unobstructed view of the proceedings. And he could view it in safety.
Then he saw it. The monster in question, for that certainly was what it was, was unlike anything he'd ever seen.
