Chapter 2 - 2 1.1

His brain felt fried. Wasn't he just about to go to bed? If someone was pulling a prank on him, he felt that now was the time to reveal it.

The body's eyelashes held tiny ice flakes. It must've been the extremely cold temperature that kept the body from rotting away.

Why was it so cold up there though? There wasn't any air conditioning.

'What the hell is this?'

He stared at the transparent screen intently.

[Host is now in place.

"What is this?" He asked himself, not expecting a reply he was surprised to find that answer on a separate transparent screen.

"Oh, that's not so bad."

With his thoughts on the arrow the clause rolled out like a scroll.

"W-when did I even agree to this?! I want to speak to a manager!"

[(Welcome Host. This is an intricate system that's been placed upon you because We the System found you worthy of such a task. We see that the community within other worlds would thrive with your presence and you would thrive even more with ours. For the betterment of both our worlds we've called you to complete tasks and collect Roulettes for the system to take.

Every Roulette is a collection of a world's specific energy shaped and modeled to travel to more complicated worlds. Some energy is given to us and the rest is used to supply the 'Training Space' and the Roulettes.

Wishing you the best of luck with our small system, From System.)]

"So you're sending me to collect Roulettes for your own benefit? How does this benefit me?!"

[…]

"Hey!"

[…]

Caige could only sigh and lament at his luck.

Don't systems in novels usually have a personality?

Like a companion to keep their hosts sanity.

Before he could examine the system more a loud sound of tires and high pitched screeching was heard.

Without a thought his body instinctually floated to the sounds.

He didn't have a penchant to follow his curiosity, but with the recent events it was better to explore than to wait for something to happen.

As he focused his thoughts on walking he could slowly feel his feet touching the ground.

The dust rose as he stepped to the door.

Without thinking he pressed on the door only for his hand to go through it. He leaned forward, almost falling on his face.

He fell through the door, the worst wasn't over yet as he started to go through the floor.

"Oh no."

"Aaaaaaaah!"

With that he fell from the sixth floor to the ground.

"Fuck." He almost pissed his pants.

It was a fortunate ghost couldn't pee.

As he dusted himself off, he took in the space around him.

People were hustling here and there. He floated to a nearby construction worker and watched him lift a dresser like it was nothing.

As he got closer to him the man hurried to his destination.

With a plop the bricks fell.

"Geez, I keep getting goosebumps." He said as he rubbed his arms.

"It's probably just the change in temperature." A lumberjack like man replied.

"Yeah but why is it so cold in here? It's blazing outside. Y-you don't think it's one of the paranormal things right?"

"I think we should be thanking the ghost then." The

Lumberjack laughed.

With thoughts on completing a mission Caige silently crept up behind the man and whispered "Your welcome."

Nothing happened, frustrated he floated around in circles.

"Tch."

"D-did you hear that?"

Caige was surprised. How did being a ghost work? One moment he could touch ground the next he was falling six stories.

The lumberjack and furniture guy quickly exited the building.

Caige could only simply float in circles as he thought of the situation at hand.

How did he benefit from this?

Why was he chosen?

And what did the system need this energy for?

Everything was so complicated.

It wasn't long before the two came back with more furniture.

"What's this show gonna be about?"

Furniture man asked curiously, his eyes practically glowing.

"Some kind of action thriller."

"Sounds cool. When do you think it'll come out?"

"I don't know man, why don't you ask them?"

Lumberjack was getting annoyed with all the questions.

"I'm too shy." He said while shyly finger twiddling.

He was then smack on the back of his head.

"Well they'll be here tomorrow at the latest so we have to hurry and get all this furniture inside. Unless you don't want to go home early tonight."

"Maybe not, my wifeys been so moody lately."

He looked on the verge of tears.

Lumberjack could only sigh.

'So this was a movie set? Why haven't they fixed the higher stories then? The body would have been found already if they'd just looked around a bit.'

Caige could only ponder this question as he floated upwards.

Why was he floating up though?

With the thought of exploring some more he moved to search the second floor, to his surprise though he couldn't float anywhere but up.

'Shit am I ascending to heaven or something?'

He couldn't help but flap his hands in panic.

'Fuck.'
