Chapter 3 - Breaking Bots

After watching the intro cinematic, which is just the camera flying around the world and zooming in on various things from fights to farming and the narrator telling you a bit about the world and its history.

He selected the character he spent the last week customizing due to his indecisiveness when it comes to his avatar looks.

But he eventually settled on having a little above average look with green spiky hair that reached just above the shoulders and stern gray eyes.

He also has small horns and pointy ears along with purple upside-down triangles just under his eyes and a medium-length black tail with a triangle point at the end.

These were all racial traits that can't be removed but can be customized a bit. And for his skin tone, he chose to have a light tan.

He appeared in what looked like a large forest with nothing around but the sound of various animals.

"Sigh… Well, my random spawn point could have been worse." He said to himself

Then Looked at his hands and clenched them a few times a bit before checking his whole body. He noticed that he was in beginner gear.

'At least the graphics aren't as uncanny as Undead Life, they tried way too hard to make a realistic-looking game but ended up making a bug-filled uncanny valley game that gave people PTSD. This game's graphics are more like anime plus 3d and somehow looks pretty good.'

He then went to open his Player Status Window (or PSW for short) but just as he was about to do the hand gesture to open it everything went dark.

'Hm!? Is this some kind of bug?' He thought to himself in a panic. And as if answering his complaint a message appeared.

[DING: YOU HAVE DIED.

As you are a newbie you have the newbie protection and can respawn 9 more times before suffering from the death penalty. To make sure that you don't die the same way again you will respawn in the nearest town/city that you have registered at. If you do not have any town/cities registered you will respawn 1 kilometer away or .62 miles from your last position in a random direction so you don't die immediately once you respawn. You can also immediately respawn at your death location if you have a revive token or are revived by someone with the restriction spell.

Do you wish to respawn?

(Yes) (No)?

Note: pressing no will log you out of the game.]

"The hell killed me?" He asked himself, then pressing yes to respawn.

When he respawned he found himself still in the forest however he is now close to water because it can be heard off in the distance.

He quickly got close to the ground and hid behind a nearby tree to make it harder to spot him.

He swiftly checks the death feed to find out how he died.

'The hell is a Saber-tooth Beaver?' He thought as he tried to imagine what that would look like.

'Whatever, let's quickly open the status window.' As he is about to open the status window he hears a noise coming from the other side of the tree he is hiding behind. And curiosity got the better of him he looked to see what it was.

To his horror, it was a goblin running at him with a sharp stick pointing at him.

'How the hell did it find me?' He thought as he fruitlessly tried to dodge but the goblin moved as if he was empowered by the god of speed.

This isn't true but with how low his stats are he moves so slow that others look like they move super fast even if that enemy is a slow-ass goblin.

As he was crouched down his head was skewered by the sharp stick killing him instantly.

"How, it was a goddamn goblin?" He yelled into the death void.

He then pressed yes but this time he spawned in ankle-deep water.

"You gotta be fucking kidding me. How is my luck so bad?" He angrily exclaimed.

"Whatever... Sigh, let's get out of here and the-" as he was trying to get out of the water he slipped and hit his head killing him almost instantly dying of blood loss seconds later.

This time without reading the death text he hit Yes and respawned as fast as possible.

Still, in the forest, he started running in hopes of getting out of the forest as fast as possible. Sadly his running attracted other monsters that were faster than him.

Revives left 7.

The next life was wasted as he tried to climb a nearby tree and was assaulted by birds; they weren't monsters, just normal birds.

Revives left 6

Logging out and taking off the VR headset and carefully setting it on the desk next to his bed. He then picked up one of his pillows and took a deep breath then yelled onto it for a good 5 minutes. "HHHHGHHMMMMGHHFIJHG!"

"Sigh… Almost lost my cool there." He said as he put his pillow down.

'I can't believe that I died so quickly so many times that I almost lost it. I need to let off some steam now.' He thought to himself as he rubbed his head.

"Ok let's play something else for a bit" as he said that he got up from his bead.

'But first, let's eat something.' He left his room and went over to the small kitchen to look for food.

'Ok, let's see what we got. ' he thought as he looked through the fridge, freezer, and cupboards a few times. He eventually settled on heating up some leftover beef from the tacos he had last night.

After eating he got back on the DDVR and decided to play a bit on Robot Brawl.

Logging into Robot Brawl he sees all the robots that he made in-game. Some are large and built like tanks and others are made for speed and none of them are made to take this game seriously at all.

His favorite is a modified default brawler model. It can give just as much as it can take And is perfect for taking care of NPC robots with ease.

'What game mode should I pick? There's Iron wall mode, Hill climber, hmm I think I'll just go with Street Brawl mode.'

There are a few different game modes that one can play in this game. Street Brawl mode is a wave-type game mode where it starts easy and gets harder as the game progresses. And thanks to the in-game time difference he can get through about 20 waves in 1 IRL hour.

After selecting his favorite robot he found himself on the abandoned streets of New York. The buildings were in various stages of disrepair with plants growing over some of them and the streets were in a ruff shape as well

*Warning! Warning! Warning!*

10 robots appear from various places on the map but all of them are attacking from the same direction.

'Hm-hm. It always starts the same way.' He thought as he jumped into the air.

Unlike a normal jump, this is the jump of a modified robot so he leaped 30 feet into the air.

There are many ways to fight in this game. Some like using big fists to crush their opponents, others like weapons and target the joint and other vulnerable areas, and finally the fighting style that Jack prefers is Glitch Brawling.

As he was in the air he pulled his fists close to his sides, aiming at the 10 robots that were now below him.

Unlike the newer VR games of today, this one is an old one that has a few bugs.

Jack's arms that were by his side moved forward at an incredible speed and then back into place. This repeated a few times until his stiff robot arms started to creak and stretch in ways that mental shouldn't.

"METAL GATLING STORM." he shouted as if he were an anime protagonist.

His mental fists moved and stretched as if they were rubber. The poor robots were unable to get out of the way and were mowed down by a flurry of metal fists which shouldn't be possible in this game.

*Clank Clank Clank Boom*

"Kekekekeeke"

All that could be heard was the sound of metal hitting metal and exploding robots and the sound of evil cackling.

"No matter how many times I do that I still don't understand it. Normally my arms would break apart, still glad they didn't patch it." He said as he was standing on the broken bodies of the fallen robots.

"Well, a few more rounds couldn't hurt."

After a few more rounds of beating up NPC robots, he felt better and Logged off to check the time
