Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Moving On

After one last look and his family's graves he decided that he will find a way to come back and ensure their graves are more protected. maybe once he has access to more than just darkness as his skill. Cole had experienced so much death and he would only visit his old home once he is powerful enough to make it back to the home he once knew.

As Cole was looking around, he saw a blinking red in the corner and saw a notification he had missed.

[The Reaper of Darkness has buried his family in an area untouched by the aura of the beasts and has wished they were protected so has been granted a blessing]

[Congratulations Player you have recieved the blessing of Erebus the true God of Darkness]

[Blessing of Erebus: The God of Darkness has seen your deeds and your wish to protect your family. You recieve the ability to bless an area with the God of Darkness's Divine Aura and make beasts unable to Cross the area until you are no longer considered as the Champion Of The Night]

Cole looked at the message in happiness but then was feeling rage towards the fact that gods actually existed. if Gods really existed, then they let what happened to the world happen and they are the reason his family is dead.

'I will recieve the blessings of the gods for now to protect my family, but once I am powerful enough, I vow that "All Gods Will Die! By my hand!" I will replace the Gods and make sure to take care of anyone who follows me.'

Cole had nothing left for him here. All the beasts in the city were dead, and he didn't see any people. The people had either died or escaped. Cole was assuming it was the latter as he could only assume it was him who killed all the beasts which would make escape almost certain.

It seems that there were many different items that had been dropped by the beasts, but most were unusable due to Cole's class so he grabbed as many useful skills he could find and left everything in his [Dark Dimension] He also put all the useless items in as well as he never knew when he could use them if not to trade for compatible items, then as bargaining chips.

Since there was nothing, he decided to head towards another place where he heard from the system, was where a pillar appeared. According to the system, those pillars of light appeared in different major cities in every existing continent. Cole planned to head to one of the most popular places in the united states, he was heading to New York City.

(Couple Months Later)

Cole had made it to New York and it was destroyed in a lot of places, but it was still in better shape than Seattle. Cole thought that it had to be one of two things had to happen for it to be in better condition, either there were weaker beasts, or the people living in New York ended up becoming a lot stronger than the beasts.

Cole didn't know yet how close his thoughts were to the truth, he also didn't know that in Major Cities, the beasts were a lot stronger so as a by-product, the people were generally stronger as well. Cole himself actually doesn't know how strong the stronger beast are as he was lost in a rage when he killed all the beasts in Seattle.

The people of Seattle would've been an exception anyway, as he killed almost all the beasts himself as far as he knew, so the people are actually going to be weaker than the general population as they weren't able to get access to the exclusive classes and skills that those who attacked early got originally. The people of Seattle are smart enough to figure that out for themselves and will join other major powers to survive.

As Cole was walking through the ruined city, he heard the sound of something moving in the nearby building. He assumed that it was most likely a beast that had been able avoid detection and quickly created his Dark Spear and walked over quickly but quietly.

As he got closer he saw a dark blur begun to move and threw his spear at the running target.

"Ahh!!"

Surprisingly there was a human scream that came from the "target"

As Cole arrived at the place where he threw his spear, he saw a young woman most likely around his own age impaled through the right shoulder with his spear against the wall. She was wearing all black and had her face covered with a full mask similar to a ninja mask and only her piercing emerald eyes could be seen.

Showing no remorse or regret, Cole asked coldly.

"Who are you? Were you waiting to ambush me?"

"N-no I was just hiding. The monsters finally left and I was trying to leave to find my family." She said.

Hearing the similarities to his own situation, his features softened, but only slightly. He didn't let down his guard. He won't let himself be fooled and he has no plans allowing anyone to get close to him. He can't handle losing someone close ever again.

*Shlick*

*Thunk*

*Thud*

Cole pulled his spear from her shoulder and it made an audible thunk as it was dislodged from the wall and the individual fell to the ground with a thudding sound.

Cole then disipated his spear to the shock of the woman and turned around while saying.

"Fine, be on your way."

As he walked away he was stopped by the words of the woman.

"Wait! Could you help me?"

Cole turned around and said.

"And why should I help you? What do I gain from helping you?"

"Well you don't really gain anything, but I could help you to navigate this city. I've lived here all my life so I know it like the back of my hand. I wasn't actually telling the truth about looking for my family, I just hoped to make you hesitate in kill-"

*Swoosh*

Before she could finish speaking Cole was instantly in front of her and he grabbed her face with his hand and lifted her up.

"You'll soon learn that lying about family is the worst thing you could've done. Perhaps you'll make better choices in your next life."

Cole said as he reached his other hand to her throat and began to choke her, preparing to snap her neck until he was stopped once more.

"WAIT STOP PLEASE DONT KILL MY LITTLE SISTER!!" A voice said off to the side.

This made Cole pause and he looked over and saw a girl in similar garments to the girl who's neck he was holding. He loosened his grip enough for her to breath.

He saw that the other girl even shared the piercing emerald eyes and he could see the concern in her eyes.

Hearing that it was her little sister struck a cord with him and he was fighting an internal battle on if he should let her go.

"You know your little sister had plans to kill me, did you know that?" Cole said.

The girl in question gasped because he was right. She had seen him enter the city and was watching him. She had actually been using a skill amd was going to run behind him, but he sensed her somehow and the next thing she knew, she was impaled through the shoulder against the wall.

She even had a hidden blade ready to stab him, but when she saw his eyes and remembered his strength, she decided it'd be better to request his help.

Cole had seen the dagger hidden in her sleeve and was prepared to kill her if she tried anything, but she didn't make a move so he was going to let her go. Her shamelessness in asking for help from the person she was going to attack kinda pissed him off. It gave him bad memories about an old bully he used to have.

Now trying to kill someone over something so trivial is ridiculous, but Cole hasn't been fully in his right mind since he had to bury his family. He's been plagued with old random memories of his old life with his family and his life in general and hadn't fully come back to reality.

It actually took the words 'Little Sister' to snap him out of it, but it still stands that she did try to kill him. If he didn't get a good enough reason for it, then he won't care. As much as it would hurt him to make someone feel the same pain he went through and lose their little sister, he couldn't be weak, he had to be strong.... For His Family.
