Natasha sneezed as she sat down on the couch in her living room. She had just returned from the store and the house was really empty, it seemed that she was the only one home right now.
She checked the time on her phone and it was already thirty minutes past one o'clock. Joy was supposed to be home from school by now, she was starting to get worried, she was about to call Nine when she saw that Dom was calling her.
She frowned wondering why he was calling her, she was still very annoyed with him for the entire situation earlier and she hated feeling like such a petty person.
She reluctantly answered the call, resisting the urge to shout at him and asked him why he was calling her.
"Hello." she said.
"Hey Natasha, where are you?" he asked her, she frowned wondering what made him feel so confident to ask her where she was.
"I'm at home, why are you calling?" she asked clearly annoyed.
"Good, well I'm with Joy right now, I picked her from school, they stayed in school an hour longer since they were all just playing the entire day, it was the last day of school." he said and Natasha could hear Joy giggling in the background.
"Ahh I see, it's summer break?" she asked.
"Yes it's summer break, three months of Joy not preoccupied with school... we'll need some supernatural help to keep her entertained." Dom said as Natasha laughed, she could hear Joy saying something incoherent in the background, but she knew that Joy was probably refuting that statement.
"Anyway, back to why I called, your lovely darling asked me to stop to get some ice cream on the way home, but I told her that I need your permission first because I definitely don't want to get in trouble with you when she can't eat lunch." said Dom.
"That is true." admitted Natasha as she laughed.
"Aww, but mommy, it's not fair, daddy is just not being fair, I want ice cream." came Joy's soft voice in the background as Natasha just laughed.
"You sound so sweet now but you won't when I'm being scolded for letting you convince me to." said Dom.
"Aww, please daddy, please mommy, can we get ice cream, please!! It's really hot and I want some ice cream, ice cream, ice cream." Joy repeated the words ice cream like a mantra.
"Oh I don't know darling, it's too early for ice cream and you'll be home soon in time for lunch." said Natasha.
"Aww but mommy please, it's summer, can I get some ice cream, I promise that I'll eat my lunch." said Joy.
"You promise?" asked Natasha.
"I promise, promise mommy, I will eat my lunch when we get home." said Joy as Natasha could just picture Joy's sweet little face asking really nicely.
"Oh... alright fine, you can get some ice cream." said Natasha.
"Yayyyyyy." said Joy.
"I'm so glad that you're the one that caved in." said Dom as he chuckled.
"Oh please, shut up, it's just this once, you cave in all the time." she replied.
"That may be true, but not this time, anyway, I'm stopping by our favourite ice cream shop." he said.
"Our?" she asked.
"Oh come on, you know it's our favourite ice cream shop, anyway, do you want me to get you some ginger ice cream?" he asked.
Natasha frowned, she did not want to give in, but the thought of having some spicy ginger ice cream to eat this evening was very tempting.
"It will be delicious... and when last have you had your favourite ginger ice cream?" asked Dom, it sounded like he was trying to coerce her into giving in.
"Come on, you know you'll regret it when Joy and I get back with ice cream and you didn't get your favourite." he kept on repeating the word favourite and the more he did it, the more she felt like she truly would regret it if she did not give in.
"Alright fine... get me my ginger ice cream." she finally admitted.
"Yayyyyyy." she heard both Dom and Joy say.
"The two of you have massive sweet tooths." she shook her head.
"Oh stop pretending like you don't have one as well, we'll be home in about thirty minutes." he said.
"Okay, bye." she replied.
"Byeeeee mommy." she heard Joy say before the call ended.
Natasha laughed to herself and shook her head, those two really had a sweet tooth, what could she say except like father like daughter.
Natasha checked her phone smiling at a picture of Joy in her lovely dress that she had taken yesterday.
Natasha zoomed into the picture, seeing her precious baby's wonderful smile, wait, was it only her or was Joy started to look more like Dom the older she got?
Natasha squinted her eyes, she truly was seeing clearly, Joy was starting to look more like Dom, she even had his smile, the way her lips curled up when she smiled was the same way Dom's lips did when he smiled.
Apart from that her hair colour was starting to get darker, it looked as dark as Dom's hair was, it made them look more alike than before.
Natasha frowned in pettiness, she felt annoyed, she felt like the odd one out, it was clear that Joy looked like she was Dom's daughter for sure, she was starting to look like him.
She felt like she was dealt with a bad hand, at least she could accept it when Joy looked like neither of them with her curly hair and lighter than the others hair colour, but now that she was becoming older and looking more like her annoying father Natasha wondered how it would feel to have a child that looked like her.
"I wonder how cute a little boy would be is he looked like me." she thought to herself, she could just imagine his cute little chubby fingers and cheeks, and hopefully he would have her ginger hair and her big brown eyes and her smile, and her nose, basically he wouldn't look like Dom at all.
"Wait, what the heck? What am I thinking? Snap out of it Natasha, I don't need baby fever right now." she said fanning herself with her hand, now was not the time to be getting baby fever.
It would never happen, never ever happen, she and Dom were done, and she had already accepted the fact that she would only have one child in this life and she did not know why she was starting to question that right now.
"I definitely need that ice cream." she sighed to herself and shook her head.
She got up and walked to the kitchen, she poured herself a cold glass of water and drank it in one go.
"Maybe my period is on its way." she said to herself, she had lost track of it over the past few months.
"Yes, maybe that's why I'm feeling this way." she said as she sighed and fanned herself, she needed to get out of these clothes into something more comfortable, she felt really hot right now.
...
"Joy, give me a hand and carry this bag for me." said Dom as he turned to the back only to see Joy's entire mouth, face and hands covered in ice cream.
"Gosh princess, look how messy you are, you got it all over your uniform." he said sighing as she only giggled.
"Sorry daddy, but the ice cream was just too good." she giggled.
"I can see that, go out and get cleaned up, you're lucky I'm your lovely father, back in my day you wouldn't catch any of us dead eating in either your grandpa and grandpappy's car." he said reminiscing of some rather bitter memories that made him shiver.
Joy just giggled and got out of the car using her messy hands as she ran inside.
Dom sighed and took a paper towel and cleaned the traces of ice cream in his car. He got out of the car carrying clear bags in with him.
"Look at how messy you are, someone definitely enjoyed their ice cream a bit too much." Dom heard Natasha say as he walked to the kitchen.
"So much that she made sure my car knows it." he said as Joy just continued giggling.
"What's in the bags?" asked Natasha.
"Ice cream, loads of it." he replied as he unpacked the bags and put the tubs of ice cream in the freezer.
"Why so many?" she asked.
"I got everyone's favourite ice cream that's why, and here's yours" he said as he handed her the only ice cream flavour she was interested in seeing.
"Yayyy, my favourite, I'll eat it later." she said smiling happily.
"Anyway darling go wash your hands and there's leftover pasta in the fridge for lunch." she said.
"Okay mommy, I didn't forget my promise, I will eat every single bit of it." she said winking as she ran away.
"She's really full of energy." said Natasha, she laughed and put her ice cream in the freezer.
