Chapter 539 - A break

"Hello, hello." said Michael brightly as he walked into Dom's office with a cheery smile on his face.

"Hello Michael." replied Dom as he sighed and looked up at Michael who sat down on the couch.

"What happened to you? Why are you beaming so much?" asked Dom as he dropped his pen on the desk.

"Nothing much, I just got my suit for the party next Saturday." declared Michael happily.

"And I am sure that my suit is better than Charlie's by a long shot." he said with a chuckle.

"*Ugh*, I am so tired of hearing about the party over and over again." said Dom as he groaned.

"What's the matter? Do you have a headache or something?" asked Michael in concern.

"No, I don't have a headache but I'm surely getting there, I am just stressed, don't mind me." he said with a sigh as he rubbed his eyes.

"Alright then, anyway, you sound really annoyed, care to tell me why that is?" asked Michael.

"I just need a break, I've been hearing about this party nonstop for the past week, first from Lulu, then from Charlie and now from you. Don't mind me though, I am happy that you got a suit." said Dom as he smiled and closed his laptop, he was complaining that he needed a break so he certainly needed to create that break for himself.

"I can see that sounds annoying. Anyway I don't mind. Yes, it's one of the fanciest suits I have ever owned and I can't wait to wear it." said Michael happily.

"You seem really excited for this party, even more excited than Charlie." said Dom as he yawned and got up to join Michael on the couch, his back was killing him.

"Of course I am, I mean just when do we have a big event such as this one to look forward to? Besides, it feels like the days have just been awfully repetitive and I know that you agree with me." said Michael as Dom sat down beside him.

"I do agree, but life gets often repetitive sometimes, it keeps on going and so do we." said Dom.

"True, but finally we have an event that's going to disrupt our casual Saturday evening." said Michael with a smile.

"With how enthusiast you are about this party you better not have bought some crazy expensive suit that you will only wear once." said Dom as he shook his head, he knew Michael and he was rarely excited about things, but when he was, he had a tendency to go overboard.

"Of course not... it wasn't that expensive..." said Michael with a sheepish chuckle as Dom felt his predictions were absolutely right.

"How expensive was it?" he asked as Michael try to avoid the question.

"Michael!" Dom called out sternly as Michael had no choice but to answer.

"Alright fine..." he said as he sighed.

"It wasn't that expensive... I just spent a few thousand bucks on it." said Michael sheepishly as Dom had an unreadable expression of shock plastered on his face.

"Are you serious Michael? You spent a couple thousand dollars on a suit you won't even wear more than once?!" asked Dom in disbelief.

"That's not true Dom, it wasn't as expensive as some other suits, besides, considering the large amount I spent on it, I won't just wear it once. That's going to be the suit I wear to my wedding no matter when that will be." said Michael as Dom scoffed.

"Yeah right, your wedding indeed, you don't even have a girlfriend, much more less to talk about getting married. Just admit it, you wasted money on a suit you will wear only once. What happened to you? That's something Charlie would do not you." said Dom with a shake of his head.

"Hey, don't be like that. I will get married... someday..." said Michael as he frowned.

"Yeah right... you're already thirty one and still no girlfriend, no woman you like, my advice to you is take this seriously and actually get married, you're not getting any younger." said Dom as he rubbed his eyes.

"I'm just going to ignore your rude tone because you're obviously stressed, anyway, you of all people who for the longest time regretted getting married so early know better than to scold me now. You were the example, none of us wanted to follow in your unfortunate footsteps." said Michael.

"Ouch, that was a low blow Michael, a really low blow." replied Dom as Michael chuckled.

"Well you deserve it for being so cranky today. Anyway, don't jinx me, I will get married when the right time comes and back to the suit. I obviously was thinking very well thank you very much, I save money all the time and the only reason you save money is to end up spending it." said Michael as Dom chuckled.

"Whatever, I won't expect a bachelor to understand the woes of saving money." said Dom as he yawned.

"Yeah, yeah whatever, anyway, is Natasha going to the party as well?" asked Michael.

"Yes she is, and we're brining Joy along. Grandfather wants her to get used to being seen out in public." said Dom.

"Well that's nice, so it's really going to be a family event, and it couldn't have come at a better time, at least you and Natasha are no longer as cold to each other as you were before, you know the press is going to be there and all eyes will be on everyone, especially the only married couple of the family." said Michael.

"Yes I agree, having a scandal is the last thing on my mind and we really don't need bad publicity right now." said Dom.

"You know, there are people who say that there's no such thing as bad publicity." said Michael.

"Well they say that because they are idiots. Having a bad reputation due to bad publicity will set your head straight. You know how forward the media is, if they sense any cold tension between me and Natasha next you know the headlines will be rumours of an affair on both sides or some other nonsense." said Dom as he sighed.

"Yes that is true... so do you really think that you and Natasha are in a place to go out in public together and be civil?" asked Michael.

"I am actually proud to say that I think we can. You know the other day she surprised me, she texted me for the first time in forever and asked me to meet her at the mall." said Dom.

"She did?" asked Michael in surprise.

"Yes she did, she wanted me and her to pick out a dress for Joy together and I can say calmly that there wasn't any bad tension, we just both wanted to do something nice for our daughter and nothing else matter then." he said with a smile.

"Well that's good for the both of you. I really just want you both to be happy, and Joy makes you happy." said Michael smiling,

"Thanks Michael, that's why I am certain that as long as we keep Joy in the middle of us both, she will have all our attention and we will focus on what is most important." said Dom as he smiled.

"That's true, and I'm sure that by the time you guys finally get the divorce you'll be almost as close as friends." said Michael.

"I can only hope that, but what I really want is for that divorce to happen so finally Natasha can be free to be happy and live her life the way she deserves." said Dom.

"And what about you? Don't you want to be happy?" asked Michael.

"I am already happy, I have the most beautiful daughter in the world, she is all my happiness." said Dom as he smiled.

"I know Dom, but I don't mean to be insensitive, but when you guys finally divorce, which is going to happen soon... won't you try to start your life over again? I mean get remarried have more kids you know?" asked Michael.

"I don't want to do any of that Michael, I'm frankly done with love, and I know that just because it didn't work out the first time doesn't mean that it won't work out the second time." said Dom.

"But I know that it would hurt Joy to see my start over and I'm really not ready to do that. I am already happy as long as I've found a way to repay Natasha for all the horrible years she spent with me and the horrible way I treated her." said Dom.

"I'm perfectly happy if Joy is my only child in this world. I just want to dedicate myself to being the best father I could ever be." said Dom as he smiled.

"I just want you to be happy Dom, nothing else, and I'm really sad that things did not work out well between you and Natasha, you guys used to be so... good together..." said Michael.

"I would be lying if I said that I didn't think that as well, but such is life." said Dom with a sad smile as Michael smiled sadly.
