When you want to finish a work but can't. When you want to run but can't. Do you know the very common reason as to why? Motivation is usually what many answers but I assure you that it's not. Thou logically it makes sense, there are situations where no matter the situation you are still obligated to do so. Be it you working in a formal job and finishing a work before deadline comes. No matter your motivation be, you are still forced to work on it unless you want to get fired. It's not Motivation that is the answer it is Fatigue. The natural killer of man and the reason why most cannot bear to work on anything.
I used to be a somewhat well-adjusted guy. Not overworking myself and getting a fine rest whenever I can. Thou I can't really say the same as of late.
.
.
Reaching the doors of an intricately designed mansion in a middle of graveyard, the man carrying a large coffin nonchalantly knocked at the door. With eyebags visible on his tired face, it's easy to see how the man had little to no sleep. Thou despite such a look, the man doesn't seem to be any weak, seeing how his easily carrying said large coffin.
"Hello~Hello. Back are we today."
Upon knocking on said door, it slowly began to open and was received by an odd-looking plush doll on the other side.
"Darwin sure is a hard worker."
Looking at the plush, its appearance can be described as somewhat cute; looking like teddy bear with stiches all over its body. Thou despite its cute appearance, the man carrying a coffin also known as Darwin doesn't seem to care.
"Right.. Here's this week's request." Darwin spoke while giving the coffin to the plush.
Receiving the coffin, more similar looking plush dolls appeared to carry off the received coffin.
"Thank you, Darwin. The reward will be transferred to your account, in a moment."
"You're welcome." Darwin spoke. "Is this all?"
"Well... There's still like one request we would like you to take. Thou before that how about you come in. I'm brewing coffee which you may like."
"I'm good with not drinking coffee, but thank u for the offer. I would like to sleep after this you see."
"A bummer." The plush doll spoke. "I was hoping that u would finally drink my brewed coffees but alas. In any case, please follow me to my office so we can discuss more on this request."
Following the doll through the large mansion inside, they arrived at a closed room. Opening the door reveals a freakish looking surgeon room, filled with things and contraptions that Darwin doesn't even know the purpose of. Not far in the edge of said freakish looking room is a table filled with papers and an out of place coffee brewing machine. Along with said things is also a chair whom is being seated by a woman in a lab coat whom is also drinking a cup of coffee.
"Good evening my dear Darwin!" The woman called.
"Its 2am now." Darwin replied. "Why are you even drinking coffee at this time miss Café?"
"Come on now my dear Darwin. There you go again questioning me as to why I would drink my favored drink." Café spoke somewhat protective of the cup of coffee that she has.
"I'm not going to repeat myself over as to why drinking absurd amount of caffeine is bad so just tell me as to what this request is?"
"The request, right~right."
Saying those words Café then began fiddling with the papers on the tables. Finding what she was looking for and giving it Darwin through the plush doll.
Receiving the paper, Darwin then carefully reads the content.
"A request of guidance.. Don't tell me..."
"Yep this request would be you looking out for someon-."
"I refuse!" Darwin immediately spoke.
"At least let me finish what I was about to say." Café spoke somewhat annoyed.
"No matter what you'll say, I refuse to take care of anyone."
"Do you know about the Houses my dear Darwin?"
"Houses? You mean the major houses that forms the Reaper Association? What does this have to do with anything?"
"Try reading who's that letter you're holding is from."
Reading the letter again, Darwin eyes widened upon finding out who's letter is from.
"T-testament.. This letter is from someone in the Testament House!?"
"A young lady from said house to be exact."
"Whomever in the house doesn't matter! Why the hell are you asking me to do this job!?" Darwin questioned.
"After some deep thinking I concluded that you're just the right person for the job."
"I'm very doubtful about the thinking part." Darwin spoke with doubt written all over his tired face. "Aren't there other people for this job other than me?"
"Let me ask you this question Darwin. Knowing you know the people that work here. In the conditions that we work on, would you let them take care of a young unexperienced lady. A lady of the Testament house no less?"
"..."
Hearing the question proposed to him, Darwin pauses. Deep in thought thou unable to answer said question in the end.
"No answers, I see..."
.
.
"What about you then?" Darwin spoke.
"No, I refuse!" Café replied immediately.
"Wait a minute... This request originally was requested to you isn't it!?"
"N-nn..no..." Café replied. Truly shaken by it, seeing how she can barely drink her coffee properly.
"Oh I get it now. You're just being lazy so you're pushing your work on me again!"
Hearing those words, Café suddenly jumped from her chair and into the floor. Begging to Darwin heavily.
"P-please.. My dearest Darwin." Café sobbingly spoke. "Just take this job. I already escaped the horrors of teaching children. I-I don't want to be dragged back to that hell again!"
"Goddammit..." Darwin sighs.
Seeing the sobbing Café beg and hug his feet, Darwin can't think properly. How did he even get to this situation, He spoke in his mind. But after much time and with Café still begging, Darwin finally agrees to the job just to stop the still crying Café.
"Fine!" I'll agree to the job. Can you stop now? I'm not fond of you turning my pants into a towel for your tears."
"Thank you, Darwin!!! Thank you really!"
"Right.. Thou I'll only accept in one condition. Anything that happens to this young lady that is out of my control be not the fault of mine. I don't want seeing my head be chopped off just because a young lady of the Testament house got hurt."
"There's no need to worry about such a thing mister." a sudden unknown voice spoke.
Confuse as to whom spoke said words, Darwin looked behind of him and saw a somewhat beautiful looking young lady dressed in formal clothing. Judging from what she just said, Darwin quickly figures out as to whom the lady is.
"Ah Young miss Mary!" Café called somewhat surprise at the circumstance. "It's very late today, I thought I already told you to take some rest?"
"It's fine miss Expreso." Mary spoke. "I wasn't very tired anyway."
Observing the lady more closely. Its indeed is heavenly how beautiful the lady is. A hair smooth and white as the moon above. A skin pale as milk and smoothness that shows great care. Outstanding of all is her eyes that looks more like a bright jewel, alluring everyone that it set its sights.
It is shocking to know that she's from that House that I heard things about. Darwin spoke in his mind.
"I would like to introduce myself. My name is Mary of House Testament." Mary spoke while raising her hand for a shake.
"Darwin Evans." Darwin spoke reaching his hand to accept the shake.
"Ah introductions, truly nice to see." Café spoke. "In any case I hope you're fine with this arrangement miss Mary?"
"Again, no worries miss Expresso." Mary replied. "I'm sure to learn a lot about being a soul reaper by sir Evans here."
"Oh? So this is what this is about." Darwin spoke. "How surprising. Knowing your family, I expected that learning from them would more effective. This is the first of me hearing about someone from the Testament House asking for guidance from a common soul reaper."
"I can understand your concerns sir Evans. Thou I assure you that there's no need for worries. As for why I'm asking for guidance, let's just say that the family of mine is a bit short on people that can teach me..."
.
.
"I see... In any case I do hope that you are at least able to handle things on your own. There will be situations that I'm unable to absolutely babysit you."
"Truly! I promise you that I won't be a burden."
The start may be shaky, but I somehow became a tutor or like in the end. Thou I would prefer to lay low of all things, only doing what I'm capable of. But alas it seems such things just isn't just fated for me. With a person to take care off, I assume things would get busier and most likely more dangerous.
Oh I how I pray things to go smoothly. Thou with my luck, I highly doubt so.
