Darren arrived at his mansion late in the night. When he visited the Clark's mansion Vivian was already drunk and she was unwilling to let go of him.
Butler Jan welcomed him and took his laptop. "Welcome master," said the butler.
"Where's Elena?" Darren now remembered she was ill.
"She's asleep and I don't think you should disturb her," butler Jan added before turning to leave.
Darren frowned and thought how serious Elena's sickness might be. He didn't bother when the butler called him that she was sick and thought it was just a minor fever. He also couldn't deny Vivian's birthday because of her.
Darren strode into Elena's room he haven't visited for days, the lights were switched on the she was tucked inside the duvet.
It was when he got closer that he noticed the small movement coming from Elena's body. Darren sat on the bed and touched her shoulder, instantly, her body froze.
Elena didn't know Darren had returned and even came to her room untill she felt his hand on her shoulder. She froze and buried her head deeply into the pillow, using the inside of the duvet to wipe her wet eyes.
Darren felt her temperature and called her name gently but she didn't bulge as if she was asleep.
Darren pulled her up with force and removed the duvet from her face. He was surprised to see her face wet with tears and the rims of her eyes were red down to the skin on her face.
"You're crying? What happened," he asked with a frown. Elena had never cried before or was it because she was sick?
Darren pulled her closer to his body and wipe the liquid on her face with his thumb but Elena didn't show any reaction. Her face was stoic and unfriendly.
Elena didn't react, no smile on her face or happiness in her eyes. After Darren wiped eyes, she laid back on the bed and rested her head on the wet pillow.
It took the stunned Darren to figure out she was giving him the cold shoulder. "Elena. Are you angry at me? Elena talk to me!" Darren said pleadingly.
Elena picked the whiteboard on the bed and scribbled on it before passing it to him.
[I can't talk. I'm dumb]
Darren looked at the girl in disbelief. He was surprised at her new behavior and what made her cry. She wasn't able to speak and would keep many things to herself so as not to worry him.
He pulled her up and gathered her in his arms. Her sweet refreshing scent waft through his nose making him bury his face in the dip of her neck.
"Why are you crying. Did I do something wrong?" Darren asked with raspy voice, he could feel he was the reason she cried.
Elena pulled away from him as if he was made of thorns. Her eyes were wet again as warm tears sip out from the corners of her eyes. She shook her head saying she was okay and laid back on the bed.
Darren knew she wasn't okay. He pulled her again and more tightly, "Give me a hint why you're crying. Infact hit me if you don't feel satisfied," he never wanted to hurt her but now, it seemed he had hurt her feelings unknown to him.
The seconds she heard what he said, Elena's palm landed on the side of his face. She was sobbing and continued hitting him on his chest, letting out all her pains and anger.
Darren remained unfazed as he let her hit him to her satisfaction. He didn't stop and watch her sob quietly and her hand fell limp on his lap. Her face was covered with her hair and Darren has to push it behind her ears.
"I'm sorry if I wronged you okay. Maybe I did it without me knowing but I want you to be happy. I'm sorry Elena, truly sorry," Darren muttered and watch Elena expression that was turning worse.
Darren felt as if he was a fool. She didn't mind what he said and kept on crying, seeing her cry made him torn on the inside.
"Come here," he outstretch his arms and Elena crawled into his embrace. No matter how angry she was with him, she couldn't get angry at him.
"Shh," Darren cooed and pressed her against his chest. Elena snuggled into his embrace, buried in his arms, her face resting on his taunt chest. She draped her hand around his waist and fell asleep in his arms.

The sun rays peek through the slight opened corners of the window, brightening the room with golden light. Elena opened her eyes slowly and tried to stretch her body but she found herself still in Darren's embrace. Last night, he was heartbroken when he saw her cry and she slapped him. He held unto her till the morning and refused to let go of her at least that was the most he could do for her.
Elena smiled a little and touched his face while running her fingers to feel his smooth skin. She could remember clearly the day she met him, even if they couldn't be together he was the only person she knew, the only one who stole her heart, she would never forget how he cared for her.
Darren opened his eyes lazily, the position he was sitting right now had taken a toil on him. Seeing Elena beam with smiles, he reciprocated it and pulled her closer.
"I assume you're not angry anymore or were you testing my faith last night?" Darren asked and kissed her temple.
Elena shook her head and fold her hands above her chest. She was still angry with him, she picked her whiteboard and wrote on it.
[Why did you came home late last night]
Darren didn't expect the question and it caught him off guard.
"I went to the Clark's mansion, it was Vivian's birthday," he managed to say.
Elena blinked and stood from the bed, he actually went to Vivian's place when he knew she was sick.
