Gillan was speaking to a Village Elder on the whereabouts of Red Sparrow. The name seem to frighten the people a lot.
From what Gillan was told, Sparrow was in their village and forced them to hand over any supplies until one of the Elder' sons protested and was shot for it.
We continue to move towards the Cambodian border, haven't been there since we had to remove a base now we're hunting down a dangerous Charlie.
The Village told us rumors of how Sparrow would drain his victims of their blood and drink the blood to gain immortally like some kind of Vampire.
I don't really believe in that stuff but in Nam it's hard to tell what's real and what isn't real. To be fair if we were fighting Vampire Charlies they would be something new for once.
"Far as we know he could be using a tunnel or something" Marshall says, "Eighty Six that belly aching" Gillan tells him. When entering Cambodia it's hard to tell it from Nam due to all the trees.
We kept moving until we can across some old town which looked to be deserted. "Eyes peeled" Gillan said as we slowly moved into the town.
No one was around it was all quiet which isn't a good sign, Gillan had Scully and Me clear one of the homes.
Inside was some food which was fresh meaning whoever lived here was preparing to have a meal. Scully open another door and discovered a grizzly site.
I looked in and saw a woman who was tied to a bed badly beaten to death and she looked to have signs of sexual assault. I looked away from the site as we stepped out and saw Gillan and the others staring at a trench.
We ran over and found the rest of the people, it was a mass grave site full of bodies. I couldn't believe what I was seeing bodies of people.
Suddenly we heard something and aim our guns as a few people came out armed with rifles and some other weapons.
They looked to be the townsfolk, Gillan approached them slowly and spoke in Cambodian.
One of them looked to be young enough yet he had some authority, he was talking to Gillan then pointed out.
"Gentleman this is Botum he's the leader of these people, apparently we were just moments away from Sparrow the little slippery fuck was on a binge with his group and decided to help themselves luckily these people were able to fight him off but he swore to bring back more men" Gillan says.
"So we are going to help these people prepare for Sparrow's arrival understood?" "Yes Sir!" We said.
The people only had a enough guns to make a small Militia while the rest had to go the outskirts of their town to neighboring homes.
Botum told us on how Sparrow came by to celebrate a victory and tried bring in force recruitment but the people said they don't want war.
Sparrow didn't take no for an answer so he had his group round up any able young men to fight and any who resisted where killed.
Luckily some people from another town ran in and assisted the town into fighting off Sparrow. Gillan went with Scully to round up more of the people and prepare for a defence.
I was setting up barricades with the people so they can use them for cover even showed them on how using houses can help provide ambush spots on them.
Apparently these people were sick of being pushed around by Charlie so they decided to fight back.
Least it gives us a chance against a common enemy. The mission was simple kill Sparrow and gain a positive I.D then return to rendezvous for pick up.
It took half hour for Gillan and Scully to return with around seven volunteers armed with what looks like old Bolt Action Rifles.
Bucky was scouting ahead to see if Sparrow is coming then he came running back, "Sparrow has brought the boys Sarge they look mean not just that a few NVA with them"
Gillan turned to Botum and told him to get his group into position while he and us will flank Sparrow.
I rarely see VC and NVA fighting along side each other but least we're not alone. Sparrow walked into the town he was skinny man who wore no shirt with black shorts, sandals some bandana around his neck and a pair of shades.
With them a couple of VC and a small firing squad of NVA. Before he could announce his presence one of the VC by his side head pop open thanks to Bucky well aim.
Sparrow drew a pistol firing as he ran back for cover as we and the people begin firing at the group. A few VC stood in the street as the townsfolk started lobbing Molotov at them.
One of NVA holding a Machine Gun begin firing at the houses which Me and One of the Townsfolk were in pinned down. We crawled to a door which lead us outside.
Paul was on the roof firing down at the enemy scoring some hits while Scully slammed fired his shotgun.
Groups of the NVA started to run while Sparrow and his group kept the fire.
I don't know Sparrow but I do know something that he has balls. One of my shots hit in the shoulder causing him to scream and cursing something.
He begin to shout as his forces tried pushing into the town. Sadly a few of the townsfolk were hit and I think some were killed.
Sparrow shouted some more as he fired his sidearm. Then Paul ran from the roof as he prepare behind Sparrow and his group, Paul begin to spray his bullets.
Sparrow was hit a couple times before he dropped with the rest of his group.
"How's that for Gung Ho fucker!" Paul said laughing.
The people gather around Sparrow's body and begin to cheer, Gillan smiled at the people then at us as we begin to leave the town.
"Good job gentlemen...I am proud of you all" He says, as we reached the LZ near Vietnam's border we climbed onto the Chopper as it flew.
"Get us to Camp Spades" Gillan says then the Pilot said "Uh sorry sir no can do Command as tasked me to bring you guys to one of districts of Khe Sanh, NVA are begin their massive invasion into the south Sir!"
"Fuck! can never get a damn break!" Gillan says, I looked over to the side watching our Tanks roll with Helicopters coming and going.
The NVA are hitting off a massive Offensive since the Tet Offensive, I only hope I got enough time to write to my family.
