Chapter 11 - Robbers

Last year, this church was still broken and small. If not for Flora, she might not have had the chance to come to such a run-down place in her life. Flora has been very kind since she was a child, always rescuing animals and buying food for people begging on the roadside.

On her fifteenth birthday, Flora quietly financed the church with all the money from the gift auction. And for two years after that, she used all her pocket money to buy necessities for the children of the church. If Flora hadn't been robbed by a burglar and asked her for help, no one in the family would have known about this.

Later she often drove Flora here to see the children. She rarely got involved, just watched in silence as her sister played with the children.

Aurora wandered the streets alone, remembering stories of the past, passing children screaming or laughing uncontrollably. she wore in black suit, with the brim of her cap pressed down, walking slowly.

Suddenly, she felt a violent tug on her shoulder, and then her crossbody bag was strangled hard against her wrist.

"Someone is robbing!" Aurora shouted.

A bunch of eyes were cast around. Everyone seemed to be pressed the pause button, standing still to watch the robbery take place. The man in the tattered jacket slammed his fist into Aurora's stomach, then took advantage of her pain and fled forward with the slung bag in his arms.

Just as she was about to go after him, two more men, with stern faces and filthy dressing, suddenly appeared in front of her. Aurora unconsciously took two steps back and slammed into one man behind her, and she reacted with the intention of swinging her fist backwards, only to see that the other person was Cyril.

"Why are you here?"

Cyril did not say anything, put the bag in his hand directly around her neck, then blocked in front of her and rushed up without hesitation. After a few moves, he knocked the two men to the ground. The two saw that they couldn't beat him and escaped quickly.

Aurora sat her bag, stood by watching Cyril effortlessly fight off the thieves, feeling a bit underwhelmed.

These thieves really have no fighting force in front of him.

Cyril straightened his clothes and stood not far from her, staring at her in silence. And the passerby suddenly came alive, leaving the unexpected theater.

Cyril snickered, "Just you dare to go after a robber?"

She laughed, "What do you care about me!"

They came to the small square and sat down side by side on a bench that had been stripped of its paint. There were no street lights and few residents, so it was quiet and dark, with only the moonlight spilling over.

"BTW, why are you here?" Aurora asked.

"Came to run some errands." He looked ahead with boredom.

Aurora sat on his left side and could just see his pale blue left eye, crystalline and bright in the moonlight, more beautiful than any gem she had ever seen.

"I've heard Arvin say that you're the canary that never comes out of the gold cage."

Cyril turned his head to look at her and asked with a smile, "Is that what he said about me?" He didn't dwell on the question any further, but asked her in turn, "And what about you? What are you doing here?"

"I," Aurora's eyes darkened and her tone pretended to be relaxed, "miss someone."

He raised his pitch and said sarcastically, "Just a heartless person like you who still misses people?"

Aurora, whose eyes had been shining with tears, looked up and stared at him viciously, "Don't you know that there is a business in this world called none of your business?"

He rubbed his chin and replied thoughtfully, "Well, indeed, it's my fault for being a busybody," his eyes wandered over her body, "with a woman of your stature, those three thieves shouldn't have let you go easily."

Aurora was completely fired up and reached out to slap him, but he squeezed her hand hard with one hand.

"Would you die if you don't talk?" Aurora cursed.

Still ignoring her terrible mood, Cyril continued to provoke her, "Look at you all pissed off", he leaned down close to Aurora's ear, "I've seen a lot of women like you, trying to climb into the beds of countless men while thinking the whole world is stupid ... ah ... hiss!"

Before he could finish his sarcastic words, he was interrupted by pain. Aurora opened her mouth without hesitation and bit him hard on the shoulder. A faint color of blood slowly seeped through his white shirt.

Cyril didn't resist and let her bite so hard.

She rarely loses control. Since her sister's death, almost nothing can make her angry. But on the day of her sister's death, the grief and self-blame can't be diminished in any way, as if the whole year's peace is to devour her in one breath today. Coupled with the church, she was very tired and powerless, but there was no way to vent.

Suddenly she had a dizzy spell and lost consciousness.
