Chapter 5 - #5 - The Phoenix Woman (Vignette PoV)

"Vignette, evade, now!" Akbar exclaimed from afar. But I keep pulling the trigger, I am now aimed for that phoenix's eyes, to ensure the phoenix gets blind and landed in the wrong place.

Well, I think it's not quite simple. The hit missed sometimes, but when the phoenix came closer, I managed to hit the eyes, and even the beak and neck has already tasted my bullets. The phoenix then lost control, but still went in my direction.

"Tch, what the…" I stopped to say things after I see grey smoke suddenly come out from the phoenix and covered all of its body.

I am now scared, while asking my brain what the hell is that. The phoenix did not even change its direction, and now it's going faster than before.

I then try to evade it, I am trying to get as far as I can from the smoke. I'll never know if that thing actually will kill me. I run into the building in the right of me, and see the smoke thinning, and the phoenix landed.

Akbar and another defender unit walk closer to the phoenix. Slowly but surely with a gun and metal pipe in their hands, they're getting closer. But after the smoke completely dissipated, they then get shocked by what's inside of it.

A woman warrior, holding a staff in her hand, lying in the place where the phoenix landed off.

"What? A woman? But… How?" Akbar asked himself as he lowered his gun. His troops too, lowered their gun and started coming closer to that woman. They need to examine how and why she is there.

I want to get there too, but after I took three steps from the building entrance, something terrible happens again, and we are literally freaked off this time.

That woman, instantly disappeared and separated into several birds, which then flew over our heads at the skies. Akbar and his units surprised with that, and with the landscape those birds provided. Who knows? We've been trapped.

"They are here!"

"Surround them!

That shout is from the enemy, that has already on many sides of our guarding point, completely surrounding us and preparing to slaughter us with their sword and knife.

That bird, after all, then flies to the top of one building, and unites to human form again. We now don't know for sure where to keep an eye at.

I ran closer to Akbar and his troops in the middle lane. I need to know, what strategies he has to overcome this situation.

"Commander, what you will do?" I asked. "We were surrounded in four sides of this point, in that means we can't escape unless we break through the blockade of one lane and try to escape from there." I suggested.

"We still hold our tactic here. There's no need to change it." Akbar said as he looked at me. "If we changing plans right now, our Magisters and snipers will be dead on the high-ground there. We can escape, but they cannot." He pointed out at one building that has been used by Magisters and snipers to control the flow of the battlefield from the air, and the distance between the building and enemies are so close.

"If we run the 'Escape-and-Bait' plan right now, they can't follow up our pace, because they completely surrounded." Akbar continued, while holding his shield and metal pipe tighter.

I guess he's right. If we conduct the plan to fully escape or bait escape, they can't follow us because the enemies are already in their surroundings. If they stay there, they will have many opportunities to deal damages without being easily spotted.

"Then, what about the bird over there?"

"I don't know, can you handle it?

I looked at Akbar with a puzzled face, while he looked at me with a slight smile.

"It's maybe not your job to deal with enemies in close distance, but I think she will be dangerous enemies, judging from how she can transform to the phoenix form and do some sort of teleportation thing." He said as he widened his smile. "Hell, my Magist can't even do that thing." He added.

I looked at that woman's shadow on top of the building she stood. She raised her hand, and the enemy troops are preparing to charge.

Maybe, she is the leader? If so, looks like Akbar's plan makes sense.

"Okay." I nodded. "I'll take her out. I hope you can hold this lane safely, make sure there are no enemies let slip through your unit defenses." I said.

"Hah, you now sound like the commander now." Akbar responded. "By the way, they are targetting us, not the vanguard units. I think they are already aware of vanguard units' existence in battle, and choose to ignore them." He said very confidently.

I only hope his prediction is true, I am now worried about the vanguard units. Judging from how the enemies surround this point easily, means that they already took control of the surroundings. If the vanguard units enter that area, it will be dangerous.

Ah, I just hope for the best, think of the worst one will kill you.

I nodded, and then ran to the building where that woman stood on top of it.

I hear many sounds in the ground, looks like the enemies and allies are started to hold their lane. Huh… I already there, I already reached the top of the building.

When I reached the rooftop, she was standing there, looking at the ground while holding her staff. She has brown hair, with a small posture. She looks like a teenager, or maybe she is a teenager now.

When she senses I came closer to her, she takes a glance at me, and then turns her head again to the ground.

"Different sides, different landscapes, huh?" She said as she let out a small sigh.
