Chereads / The Magians: Resurgence / Chapter 11 - Monstrous Talent

Chapter 11 - Monstrous Talent

Lying on some kind of soft bed, Jake opened his eyes, and what caught his eyes was a white ceiling with a bright neon lamp placed on it.

"Where am I?" He muttered.

Scanning the environment, Jake felt a familiar feeling, he recognized the room as he saw summer-sky blue cubicle curtain covering the left side of the hospital cot. There was the Academy Infirmary.

"Are you awake?"

A gentle and soft-spoken voice sounded from the left side before a long-slender hand opened the curtain. Landing his vision on a beautiful female doctor, Jake was flabbergasted. She wore a light blue long-sleeved dress shirt and knee-length black skirt, with a white coat and black leather shoes with one-inch heels.

Realizing he was mesmerized for a while, Jake turned his gaze to the ceiling. "What happened?" He asked.

"Do you not remember? You fainted on the ground beside the main building." She said with a formal tone.

Jake tried to get up, sitting on the bed. He rubbed his temple as some kind of buzzing sound reverberated inside his head. "Yeah, I remember now."

"Do you still feel dizzy or unwell in certain areas?" The female doctor asked with curiosity.

She had done a medical check-up, and nothing wrong with Jake's body, thus she was thinking that the problem lay in Jake's head. As a psychologist doctor, it was Sonia Adesara's obligation to provide psychological treatment for students.

Looking at Sonia, Jake shook his head.

"I think I'm good, just a bit fatigued," replied Jake.

"I could see it. You skipped breakfast and didn't drink enough water, right?"

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be sorry. Here, take it," asked Sonia after grabbing a glass of water and some kind of supplement and giving it to Jake.

"It would replenish your energy for momentary, you can go back to the class first."

Jake nodded, accept what was given to him and drank the supplement directly, gulped some water to push the supplement down his throat. Then he handed the empty glass back to Sonia.

"Did you have nightmares lately?" Moving back to her desk which is only beside the cot, Sonia asked with a serious look while putting her slender black stocking leg over the other.

Hearing the question, Jake's eyes widened. "Yeah, I did. What's wrong with it? Did they affect my health?"

Sonia crossed her arms on her chest. "Not that much, but it did affect your fitness. Entering Somnia would consume your stamina, and dying in there would take more energy. You can do exercise consistently to build your stamina stronger."

"I did, I kept working out once a week." Jake retorted as he didn't want to be looked like a lazy person, and the former Jake actually went to a gym frequently. It was matched.

"Once a week, huh? It was far from enough! Such a poor habit would not make you anything." Sonia talked back as she crossed her arms on her chest.

Jake was a bit startled hearing those sharp words as if it was piercing his heart. However, Jake caught something odd feeling with her words. "Did you know that I had...?"

Sonia raised her eyebrows as she turn her seat toward a white desk lamp nearby. Grabbing a pen with his right hand, she wrote "175 DP" on a piece of paper, then showed it to Jake.

"What was that?" Jake confused.

"You don't know? So that was why I didn't have your data."

Sonia sighed inwardly, at least, she didn't have to bear the shame cause she had measured Jake's Dunamis without his permission.

After adjusting her glasses using the thumb and the forefinger, Sonia crossed her arms again. "This is your dunamis point." She stated.

"Dunamis Point?" Clueless, Jake repeated what she said.

"Yeah, that's right. Dunamis is one main status that we have within our body. It resembles the physical attributes which are strength, consitution, and dexterity. Humans are born with different points of these attributes, and bloodline is the crucial component that determines the level of the Dunamis."

"Normal men mostly have around 10 DP, and it couldn't be more than 20 DP, no matter how hard he practiced. However, we as Magians, have infinity potential. We could train and grow stronger after we awaken our Psychomagic. Do you get it?" Sonia pauses, asking if Jake understands what she said so far.

He nodded firmly.

"Good. Dunamis is divided into nine ranks, from one as the lowest and nine as the highest. This is the charts," said Sonia while taking a paper from her books, and then handing it to Jake.

The paper consisted of tables titled "Dunamis Ranking".

"So I am one-rank Magian," Jake whispered to himself.

"Of course, you had awoken your Psychomagic lately, right? However, reaching peak stage in just a short period, your talent was actually monstrous. You could be proud but don't be boastful. High Dunamis rank didn't mean much if your talent in comprehending your power is trashy."

Jake nodded. He didn't know much detail about three main attributes; Dunamis, Pnumagos, and Special Brain. Special Brain related to Intelligence and Wisdom. Someone with high Intelligence and Wisdom would be easier to study and learn many things in a shorter time those generally called Prodigy.

However, after meeting his father and being told that he might be having an Irregular brain, it motivated Jake more. Without him knowing, he smiled while reading the chart of Dunamis Ranking.

"It seems like you are already well. Now go back to your class before the class end." Sonia's voice sounded next to him, making Jake startled.

"Alright, Mrs. Sonia. Thank you for your hospitality."

Jake got off the bed then wore his shoes. "Erm... I just remember something. Can I ask you?"

"Go ahead," she replied, arranging her books and file on her desk.

"Is that possible to put a consciousness inside other's Somnia? And how to do it?"

Sonia paused, looked at Jake with a solemn face.
