Chapter 1 - His Time

Greysen wasn't your typical man, in fact he wasn't even close to being normal. He never watched sports he didn't drink, he didn't really think about women even.

Books, that's where it was all at, he knew something about basically everything, he read fiction and non-fiction alike. His new favorites of course were cultivation novels, it seemed like the authors could peer into those universes and pluck the beauty from the stars.

Lately his mom and his sister had tried to get him to get a girlfriend. He had been on a couple dates with women that his mom had thought he would match good with. However he couldn't stand them. Unfortunately Greysen was tall and fairly handsome, so the women would babble about stuff that seemed incoherent to him.

He especially hated it when they would talk about this or that celebrity. That world although on the surface looked like he would like it he actually hated. The stories there never changed following a set pattern so Hollywood could milk the idiots for the little extra pocket cash they had. That's not to say he hated all movies. It did however take an especially good movie for him to pay attention.

Greysen's sister Marge had also started getting him to take her son Mark out and about. Greysen didn't mind this because Mark was into books as well. It wasn't as much as Greysen but he liked to go to Mark's favorite used book store so they got along at least.

It was Mark's birthday tomorrow, and Marge wanted Greysen to take him to the book store. Marge was giving Mark a 500 dollar budget. Greysen of course thought that this was going to be money well spent.

However tonight she wanted Greysen to take her friend out. Greysen of course agreed to the first and tried to get out of the second. He knew this date would be as boring as the rest. It didn't matter though because Marge had made reservations at a really nice restaurant, Greysen wasn't rude and since Marge paid he'd go.

The date went worse then most, the woman that he'd been setup with was into sports, and although Greysen knew lots about sports he didn't actually pay much attention to them. This made their date extremely boring. She talked about nothing but her favorite team and didn't get into any kind of technicalities.

The date lasted for an hour, once Greysen tried to drop her off, she tried to invite herself back to his place instead. This caused some awkwardness because he really didn't want her to come back with him. After he got home his sister called and gave him hell for hurting her friends feelings. Greysen just apologized and they moved on.

The next day Greysen picked Mark up after school. They went to the book store, where Mark browsed for a couple hours before he bought a First Edition of Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn. Mark didn't have enough, the copy was $1000 dollars so Greysen chipped in the rest, he considered this a good way to spend his money.

Greysen was actually happy about the purchase, even thought the book wasn't in top condition it still needed protecting. He told Mark on the walk home how to care and protect for his new investment, as he saw it in 50 yrs that book could be worth ten times what it is now.

Greysen and Mark had just rounded the last corner before Marge's house. Mark was so excited about his new book that he wasn't really paying attention. Mark tripped on the edge of the grass and fell into the street. At the same time a car came barreling around the corner out of control heading straight for Mark.

Greysen then did the only typical and really the only thing worth mentioning about his life. He jumped to saved Mark. Greysen wasn't really built for that sort of thing and even thought he was able to throw Mark out of the way, the car ran him over with no suspense.

The last thing Greysen heard before he died was Mark crying, and what sounded like a teenager saying how sorry he was....
