Chapter 15 - First Mission

"Whatever the case, his superpower will awaken in ten years. By then we can see what element it belongs to. If It's indeed an unrecognized element, it won't be too late to study and document it. Until then, stay away from Alfred. He isn't your test subject!" John warned the doctor that had a crazed and feverish look in his eyes.

...

Having gotten rid of the crazy doctor, John looked at Alfred and said, "go pack your things. We'll be leaving in two days to the Southern borders. Ah, we'll also take a detour to Elincia, where you'll get to see your old man in action." John smiled proudly.

"But before that, you'll need to get physical. With your current size... finding a combat suit for you will be a challenge..." he added with disapproval.

Alfred scratched the back of his head awkwardly.

What should he say? That he had gotten used to being a little fatty? Or that him being fat was normal since he had been the same in his past life? Even if he did say that, who would believe such a thing? Wouldn't it make him seem more pathetic like he was in denial? Or possibly even crazy?

Before he could say anything, he heard the system going off in his mind and saw rows of translucent text in front of him.

Alfred looked at his new mission with a complicated expression. On one hand, he was excited at the idea of getting stronger, while on the other hand, the system's description and remark made his liver hurt. Does it need to be so cynical?

'System, is this the only daily mission available?'

...

[Do you think you can get free Exp from me?]

...

'So stingy...'

...

Alfred separated from his family and found an empty training room on the first basement floor to carry out his first two exercises.

...

After huffing and puffing for a few minutes, he got ready to climb the stairs that he had never seen ever since transmigrating here.

Walking up and down the stairs, Alfred attracted a lot of weird glances. These people had been working on this property for so many years, yet such a sight was the first for them.

Who was the Second Young Master? Wasn't he someone who was either too shy to do anything excessive? Or a person who was indulging in his recent gluttonous habits? Since when did such a bigwig know what exercising means? Maybe the purple skies had not brightened up yet and they were still dreaming?

Whisper Whisper

"It's probably because of his awakening this morning." Someone explained to the other onlookers.

"Yeah man, I heard about it too. Apparently, he awakened a D-grade talent, such a pity for the Marshall to have such a lazy kid, SMH." One of the peanut gallery shook his head in pity for John.

"What's the point of exercising now? He already missed the prime time to make a difference. Why doesn't he just continue taking the elevator as always? Hahaha." Another one ridiculed.

...

Alfred ignored these nameless and faceless passers-by.

Hadn't he read about these individuals in his old world's web novels before? What was it again? One chapter and they disappear? Naturally, he wouldn't bother with such people.

...

[Ding!]

[Mission Completed]

[Congratulations]

[50 Exp obtained!]

[10 silver obtained!]

...

Phew!

Alfred leaned on the wall with his fat face and back soaked in sweat.

"One step closer to LVL1, I wonder how the stat points gain and distribution works..." he murmured.

...

[...]

[Find it out yourself]

...

Alfred ignored the lazy system and the useless peanut gallery and went back to his room. He still had a lot of things to do.

'Can't be wasting time with nobodies.'

...

After he got to his room, Alfred started packing stuff he would need. He packed a few suits of his best clothes and other necessities.

After checking on survival tutorials, he wanted to order some things online but thought against it. Most likely his dad would cover them right? He did mention his attire earlier after all... maybe?

Alfred shivered. What if his father really tossed him into the jungle to fight with wild beasts with nothing but the clothes on his back?

'This won't do!'

Alfred hurriedly left the mansion and snuck into the barracks on the other side of Lake Myr. Although he had no proficiency in wielding cold weapons, it would still be better than going barehanded right?

'Thankfully, I'll have stats to distribute tomorrow.' Alfred sighed lightly.

Alfred walked towards the weapon's warehouse knowing that John had possibly already been notified of his actions the moment he snuck into the barracks.

...

"Sir?" John's Lieutenant asked him again.

"It's fine," John smiled. "I want to see what he'll choose."

"Understood." The Lieutenant tapped his com-link, granting Alfred access to the storehouse.

Everyone in John's family indeed had a high degree of access in Cote de Myr. After all, they were the owners of the place. But naturally, giving children access to dangerous weapons without proper supervision was out of the question.

Deep down, Alfred knew this. But for the sake of his little life, he could only bite the bullet and act the fool.

...

As he watched the doors slide open, Alfred sighed in relief. If his father didn't grant him access, he could only thicken his already thick face some more and go see his old man.

Alfred looked toward the camera and stuck out his tongue. before walking into the weapon's warehouse.

...

John's lips twitched.

'Well, at least he is not oblivious to his surroundings.'

He watched as Alfred made a few rounds around the warehouse. At first, he picked up and weighted a mechanical spear, then he checked a sabre, sword and a tactical short-blade made with nanotechnology. All the while testing these cold weapons, Alfred's eyes never once left the wall laden with all types of machine guns and RPGs. The longing and desire were clearly obvious in his eyes.
