"What the hell?" Eric asked himself when he saw the cop cars outside in front of his house and he turned his headlights off to watch them from around the corner. He remembered what Max had said about the cops knowing who he was now and and wondered if they were going to wait there all night. His eyes widened when a white Nissan GT-R sped past his house and caught the attention of the police. The cops seemed to completely forget about him as they got into their cars and quickly chased after the GT-R as it drifted around the street adjacent to him. Once they were gone a car roared to life from the side road between the two houses to his right and he realized it was a black Toyota 86. Eric figured they wanted him to follow them as they began to drive down the street and he spun around to do so. He was surprised when he saw the GT-R was already there as they parked behind the back of a building on the outskirts of the city and his eyes narrowed when he noticed the light bar in its windshield as he stepped out of his Shelby. He rested his hand on his car's door as he thought about his options and sighed as he shut the door.
"I don't like it but the boss wants to talk to you so if you could follow me without any problems things will go smoothly for both of us." The driver of the Toyota told him as she climbed out of her car and Eric gave her a nod as she went past him. He didn't like the situation at all but knew he had no choice and walked closely behind her as one of the large garage doors opened, revealing a black and white Shelby Mustang sitting on its own inside.
"You've gotten pretty famous here Eric. You haven't even been in town for a week but your name is already on my list." A man said as he walked down a flight of metal stairs leading to an office and Eric could tell that these guys were cops, "I'm Sergeant Kane but I'm not the formal type so just call me Kane and I'm sure you've already figure out that we're not street racers."
"What do you want?" Eric asked him with a serious look as Kane leaned against the Shelby and he gave Eric a grin, "It's clearly not to have a little chat with me so spit it out."
"This little team of mine was made to take down that list and since you're new to the city I figured I figured you might be interested in a little teamwork." Kane explained as one of the other cops handed Eric a folder and as he began to flip through the pages he realized that there were files on each of the racers on the so called list including himself, "I'm guessing you haven't been told what the list is? Well it's compromised of the most wanted racers in the city and because you took out one of them you got yourself put on there, granted he was the lowest but he was still one of my targets."
"So you want me to help you bring the others down for you? What do I get out of this?" Eric asked him as he tossed the file onto the Shelby's hood, "Because so far I haven't seen a reason to do so."
"You agree and I won't hunt you down like the rest." Kane told him in a serious tone before Eric got a text on his phone and Kane motioned for Eric to check it, making Eric wary, "I'm not going to arrest you for checking your phone."
"That's a pretty good deal but you can promptly fuck off." Eric said as he read the words 'Get Ready' from a number he didn't recognize and two cops grabbed Eric's arms but let go when the GT-R was sent tumbling by a black truck and Eric sprinted towards his car while Kane's team tried to process what was happening. He yanked his door open as several cars began to drift around the cops' cars, throwing dust around and hebrealized they were the ones from the files. Eric quickly got climbed in when the Shelby in the garage started up and he saw Kane glaring at him from the driver's seat. He slammed on the gas and sped out of the gravel parking lot as Kane's tires squealed. The blue lights of Kane's Shelby lit up Eric's rear view mirror as their cars roared down the empty street and he knew the cop had to be pissed off. Eric could feel his heart pounding as Kane's car lined up with his and he hit his brakes when Kane tried to hit his side, narrowly avoiding him. He was startled a bit when his phone began to ring and he saw the same unfamiliar number as he glanced at it. He quickly picked it up and put the phone on speaker as he tried to focus on how to get away from Kane.
"Watch out!" The man on the other end told him as Kane caught up again and Eric was confused until a red Evora GT drifted in front of him from an alleyway, "Follow me and don't hesitate or he'll catch you!"
"Got it!" Eric said as blue flames came out of the car's exhaust and it began to gain distance from him. He instantly flipped the switch on his dash and his Shelby roared as the nitrous tanks emptied. As they raced down the street a bridge came into view and the Lotus began to drive close to the buildings. Eric's eyes widened when he saw where the man was aiming and he gripped his steering wheel tightly as they broke through the fence connected to the bridge. Their cars hit the concrete canal hard and Eric nearly lost control as they drifted the moment they landed to prevent going into the water.
"Looks like he isn't following us anymore" The man said with a laugh as the bridge became smaller by the second and Eric breathed a sigh of relief as they got back onto the road, "This is where we part ways Eric but keep your phone close."
"Thanks."Eric told him as they turned down opposite side roads and the man laughed again as he hung up. Eric kept on eye out for any cops as he raced back to Anna's house and when he pulled up he saw her and the others talking on the porch.
"What's wrong with you?" Anna asked as they saw how shaken up Eric seemed to be and he gave them a quick explanation of what had happened, "James get his car into the garage and we'll meet you inside."
"Alright." James said with a serious look as Eric handed him the keys and Eric followed them in. He sighed when he sat on the couch and Cooper brought him a cold beer from the fridge to help him relax.
