Chapter 53 - She was gone

Mr Winston closed his eyes and pressed the trigger as hard as he could, waiting for the inevitable bang and the sound of Damon Wright finally meeting his end. 

Nothing happened. 

Mr Winston frowned as he squeezed again, but there was no shot and no bullet and Damon Wright didn't fall down clutching his bleeding chest. 

Instead, Damon knocked the gun out of his hands and kneed him in the stomach in the same motion. 

Kicking him down, Damon flipped a switch and then pointed the gun at Mr Winston. 

"You imbecile," Damon shook his head, the gun perfectly steady in his hand, "You didn't even turn off the safety switch of the gun."

All of Mr Winston's dreams of heroism and all of his bravado vanished in an instant. 

He opened his mouth to say something but a loud crash had him cowering backwards. 

A team of trained specialists broke through the door and lowered themselves in from the ceiling and windows.
