Chereads / A Curse Of Our Regretful Past / Chapter 10 - 10. Jessica

Chapter 10 - 10. Jessica

Eunice did all she could to make Jessica understand that she meant no harm with her questions. But Jessica was offended and somehow kept her distance. It was only because she didn't want to ever think Richard was hiding anything from her.

The more Jessica thought about it, the more she wondered if what Eunice said were true. She tries to drive it off every day, but still, her words were already engraved in her heart, she hated it. But then she finds herself asking questions like "What if Richard is hiding something from her."

They tried looking around Los Angeles for a week, moving from place to place in search of Helen. Jessica wished she could just meet with Helen, she would be able to know more clues to what happened to her. But their search was in vain, and they never found Helen.

...

The night was unusually cold. Her heart was getting weaker, even the dark veins were now visible in her neck.

Jessica sat on her bed, staring at her body. Silent moans escaped her lips as she relaxed her back against the wall.

"At this rate, I don't think I will ever find him." She muttered as she slowly shut her eyes and instantly, she slept off.

"Why would you do that?" A woman's voice said to her. Jessica suddenly found herself standing behind a tree. It looked like she was in a forest and in front of her was a woman who looked very angry.

"Why did you do that?" The woman screamed.

"My father told me to. It's not as if you would even accept the offer, your parents will object to it." Jessica said to the woman.

She couldn't completely see the woman's face, she tried as much as she could, but it wasn't clear enough.

"Why are you upset Helen?" Jessica said to the woman in her dreams.

"Arrrghhh" Jessica yelled and woke up. She was frightened. It was another time again, to see another fragment of her memories.

Suddenly her door opened and Eunice rushed in.

"Are you okay?" She asked her.

"I saw her. I saw her in my dreams. She was right, we know each other." Jessica was panting.

"Who was that you saw?" Eunice asked

"Helen. I saw that woman, not her face, but I called her name, and it seemed that we were talking but I have no idea what it was about, one thing I know is that she seemed pissed at me." Jessica's eyes widened.

"We don't even have full clues yet. First the boy at the library, now Helen. We need to question Richard at least. Don't you think so?" Eunice asked Jessica.

"Let's go to Boneyard."

...

On getting to Boneyard, they were told that the brothers had gone to the border between Boneyard and Devalley. Devalley was the territory under Kendrick. Though it was once part of Boneyard, the vampires there considered themselves not part of the boneyard.

The border were where they fought for centuries. Whenever it was heard that humans were killed at Devalley, the crimson family would organize their army and attack Devalley, not just to warn them, but an attempt to defeat them and bend them to their rules.

For centuries over centuries, Boneyard never won the battle. It made Marcus sick. Even though they had the cursed one, they were yet to defeat Kendrick. Marcus kept wondering how long it will be before they finally defeat Kendrick.

...

After two days of being in Boneyard, Jessica finally heard the news that the brothers were back. Right where she was standing in her room, she could see the mansions gate and the army in the jubilee.

"Did we win?" A smile brewed from the corners of her lips. She wears her slippers and ran down the stairs to join Eunice, standing by the wide owned door, waiting to welcome the brothers.

"They must have subdued Kendrick's men." Michaela smiled.

Michaela was part of the crimson family. One of the quiet ones and was Marcus wife.

"Ladies," Marcus said to them with a pleasant smile on his face.

"We did defeat the army this time, they flee for their lives."

"That is indeed great news my love." Michael kissed Marcus.

Jessica kept smiling as her eyes were squinting around in search of Richard.

"Where is Richard?" She asked Marcus when she didn't see him.

"We lost him." Marcus' tone changed. He looked brokenhearted.

Jessica felt her heart skip a bit. Just then she looked into the crowd of army walking towards the mansion, she saw Peter in the crowd. Tears dripped from her eyes, just then she saw Richard right behind Peter.

"You liar" She hit Marcus' chest. She couldn't stop smiling. Every time they went out to war, she would always wait for them in front of the mansion.

Somehow, not knowing if they would come back alive or dead, Jessica would silently recite prayers until she sees Richard, it was as if, her prayers were always answered.

As she watched him walk closer to her, Eunice's words were ringing in her ears 'What if Richard is hiding things from her?"

Her lips slightly opened, and she bit her lower lips with her teeth. She placed her hand on her chest, and when it touched her necklace she recalled Helen's question

"Do you know the meaning of the symbols?"

Jessica has never asked. She never really took the time in looking at the necklace.

"There you are, I thought I wouldn't see you when I get back. Since you you've been in the human world for months." Richard said to Jessica and hugged her.

"Welcome," Jessica said to him and held his hands as both were looking at each other.

"Don't worry, we will find the boy." Richard encouraged her. Her countenance gave her away. She looked a bit off, making him know that she still hasn't found the boy.

"I would have hugged you, but I'm dirty." He giggled.

"We can fix that." She smiled and they walked in.

"There is something I need to ask you."
