She couldn't wrap her brain as to why Nicholas's tattoo was glowing. The infinity symbol on his wrist she has seen somewhere but she doesn't recall.
She couldn't go close to him, it was obvious her presence felt like torture to him but she only realized it when Estelle came closer.
The library owner came and Nicholas was rushed to the hospital.
Immediately she walked out of the library her eyes followed the ambulance.
"Why are you fazed?" Eunice's voice interrupted her thoughts along with her snapping of fingers to get Jessica's attention.
"That boy is something more. The more I try to understand, the everything gets more complicated. And that tattoo..." Jessica paused staring in the direction the ambulance went.
"Jessica, some humans are more complicated. They are like puzzles with many missing pieces, even though you try to understand you still can't, except you look for the missing pieces, but you can't."
"That's right, I need to find out who he is."
"That will only delay use further, Jessica, you are running out of time, we can't keep trying to fix puzzles of people that don't matter."
"He does matter, I heard Estelle called him Nicholas. It's the same name of two of the fifteen children I've killed." Tears rolled down her cheeks.
"It's just a coincidence, it doesn't mean he is the one for the sacrifice, he is not the same age remember?"
"Who says he is the one for the sacrifice? If that boy is anything, he must be the one to save me from this horrible fate." She yelled.
For the first time, she raised her voice at Eunice her elder. Which made Eunice very surprised but she didn't say a word as she knew that Jessica was frustrated the most.
"Jessica..."
"Eunice, I can't breathe, I'm tired of living like this, I'm tired of needing blood. This is against the rule we have imposed on the people of the boneyard, if they ever find out, Kendrick's men will grow in numbers, and on strength, we won't be saved."
"As well as this humans, it's one person, and I know it's still blood, but we aren't doing this because we are selfish, we are doing it for our people as well as the humans. If killing one person can save hundreds, then that soul should be happy to be a savior." Eunice tries to calm her nerves, but it wasn't working.
She could see the look in Jessica's eyes, and her body was shaking. Eunice walked closer and held her hands.
"Enough." She pulled Jessica closer for a hug.
"Have you heard of 'party?' "
"What is that? Party?" Jessica asked confused.
"It's the term humans used when people are gathered together and dancing to music while intoxicated with alcohol."
"Oh, so that's what it is, party." Jessica scoffed.
"Let's go-to party." Eunice grinned.
....
At the club, Jessica immersed herself in alcohol. She didn't taste anything, it was plain in her taste bud, but she was getting intoxicated by it. She watched Eunice dance with several men, which disgusted her. She doesn't know what it's like to live like that, without worries.
She kept watching the humans dance and giggle, and kiss. She wished to be like them, but something was holding her back-her memories.
The more she watches them, the more she is determined to figure out how she was if she ever had parents or siblings.
Her glass almost slipped her hand but Eunice walked in just in time.
"You seem a bit intoxicated." Eunice placed her glass on the table, and just then she noticed six empty bottles of whiskey.
"That's not water, because you can't taste it doesn't mean you can gulp it down your throat as if it was nothing."
She held Jessica's hands tight and drags her closer. Jessica almost slipped, which made Eunice a bit mad.
...
They walked down the street to the rented apartment they had. Jessica kept singing and suddenly stopped.
"Who knows, this might just be my end." Jessica belched.
"Stop spewing nonsense, you have many more years. I promise you, immediately we find your destiny and sacrifice him, we begin the search for the cure. And we will look into Helen." Eunice looked into Jessica's eyes.
"I'd love that, Eunice, thank you." Jessica's back was laid against the wall and Eunice was standing right in front of her. As they hugged, Jessica noticed someone behind Eunice.
"There is someone there," Jessica whispered in her ears.
"They've been following us since we left the club."
Eunice turned and fought against the men. After taking them down she checked their wrist and found they were Kendrick's men.
In the palm of one of the men, there was a pie e of paper carefully folded. Jessica took it as the dead man was lying dead next to her. She read the content of the paper and immediately she felt as if her heart was almost ripped apart.
"Eunice....." Her voice was quivering and her hands could no longer hold the paper.
"Jessica, what is wrong?" Eunice ran to her and picked up the paper that fell from Jessica's hand.
"No sacrifice for you this century, I promise you. I will come for you, the crimson family, and the vampires at the boneyard."
"This is from Kendrick." Eunice's voice was weak.
"So that's why I've not been able to find my sacrifice, because of Kendrick!" Jessica yelled and her eyes soon turned purple.
"I will find him." She growled.
Eunice's feet became stiff, she have never seen Jessica's eyes color change for any reason.
