Chapter 8 - Chapter Eight (Jessica)

"Ain't you going back in?" Eunice's voice broke Jessica out of her reverie. She was standing right outside the bookstore, contemplating if she should go and meet with the blind boy. But just like Eunice questioned her

"Then what?"

It was a question she didn't have an answer to. Jessica knew better that, walking up to the blind boy would be disastrous. How would she tell him that he might be her destiny? She knew pretty well, how nonchalant humans react to anything supernatural.

She stood right outside for a while, staring at the blind human as his friend reads a book to him. There was something about him, she was sure of it. Just a touch and a fragment of her memory were recalled.

"You can stand here all day, or we go in search of Mary Dawn and get some clues to the child we are looking for. You can always come back here, and with time get to know more about this mere human boy." Eunice said to her.

She knew Eunice was right, there will be time for her to come back and search for answers. Jessica hoped that he'd be the one she was searching for, the one she that would put the end to her suffering-her destiny, she hoped he would be her destiny to help break her curse.

...

From Philadelphia, they went to Los Angeles, to the publishing company that published the book. When they got there, they didn't know how to approach the receptionist who seemed to have noticed they have been sitting in the reception for over five hours.

"I think we need to approach the lady sitting over there," Eunice said to Jessica but she wasn't vast in the ways of the humans. She never came out to the human part of the world only when she hunts for her sacrifice.

"I wouldn't know Eunice. I don't understand this person, they have laws and follow certain rules I don't understand. You are the experienced ones, you even know how to operate that thing in your hand."

"It's a phone," Eunice responds to Jessica rolling her eyes.

She then fixed her gaze at the receptionist. She couldn't bring herself to walk up to the lady, as she thought that she might make a mistake.

Jessica was very shocked to see Eunice who seems to always be the one with confidence, reluctantly sitting and less confident. She scoffed and took the book from Eunice, then she walked to the receptionist.

"Please I'm looking for this woman, it says here that this company published the book. Is there a way I can personally meet with her?"

"For what?" The receptionist asked snobbishly.

"I have some questions about her book."

"I see. So that is what you guys are here for, but you have been sitting there and staring at me the whole time." She raised her brows at Jessica.

"Well, we are new here. Don't blame us."

"You are lucky, she happens to be here today. I will call and let her know you guys want an interview with her." The receptionist pouted her lips as she arrogantly masticate her gum at Jessica.

Jessica pretended to not be offended, and head back to sit with Eunice.

"Wow. What did she say?" Eunice asked.

"That the author is here. We are lucky." Jessica relaxed on the chair. After about twenty more minutes of waiting, the receptionist finally called for them and told them that Mary Dawn, have agreed to see them.

The receptionist leads them to the intimate part of the building. Jessica and Eunice were shocked by how elegant it looked. They haven't seen such a magnificent building like that ever. The whole building was made of thick glasses, even the stairway which was in the middle of the building and reach up to the last floor were made of glass.

The receptionist leads them to the elevator. It was also glass and transparent.

"What is this?" Jessica whispered in Eunice's ears. She had no idea what it was called.

"It's called a lift," Eunice whispered back.

They entered and then the receptionist told them that they should go to the eight floors by the left.

When they got there. They easily located Mary Dawn's office.

As they entered her office, Mary was seated, and opposite her desk was another lady who seemed to be in her late twenties.

Jessica's eyes trailed her office. On Mary's shelf, there were books arranged on it. Jessica walked closer, and she found books also written by Mary-Boneyard and Tales of the crimson family.

She picked the book Tales of the crimson family and looked at Mary.

"I was told you wanted to see me regarding my book?" Mary's gaze traveled between Eunice and Jessica's.

"Tales of the crimson family. How do you know all this?" Jessica asked her.

"Well, they are myths some of us heard from birth. Is that the question you guys came all the way to ask?" Mary asked.

"Someone has been telling you all these stories right? Who is the person?" Eunice glared at her.

"You are crossing your boundary. Who are you?" Mary was getting paranoid. She looked as if she was offended by Eunice's questions.

"We just want to know, that's all." Jessica walked closer to Mary. "Or is it that you are the one who has all this knowledge? If so, then I have a lot of questions." Jessica sat on her desk opposite her.

She then slowly looked at the woman, who didn't seem afraid but was sitting right there calmly.

As she saw the woman. She felt a sharp pain in her head. Jessica stood on her feet and placed her hands on both sides of her head.

"Who are you?" She asked the woman with a faint voice.

"Jessica." The woman looked at her with a wicked smile on her face.

"Who are you?" Jessica asked.

"I can't tell. But I'm someone you know very well." The woman responded.

Jessica froze, she didn't know who the woman was, and she felt nothing but jealousy towards her. Was it because of her pretty face? Or a feeling that she just didn't forget?
