"Do you know why I'm still working at this place?" Kevin didn't wait for Christ to reply before he continued, " I'm here because you couldn't do it," he stopped briefly to smile, "I'm better than you and you should accept that."
" The earlier you do, the better for you."
Christ sighed and looked away, " I don't even know why you think so highly of yourself. Is it because you once dated my sister? She dumped you, remember? And if it wasn't for her, you won't be in this position you are today."
Christ made a funny laugh, " And now you dare brag to me about things that you have? As if you got here by your power."
He moved to sit while Kevin watched him curiously and well, angrily.
"If you don't have anything more to say, you can as well leave my office," he looked away, picked a file, and opened it.
" Victoria was a nice girlfriend but that isn't it," Kevin looked away as he made the statement, " She was a nicer sister and well," he looked back at Christ and caught him staring.
Their gaze held and locked for a moment.
"She was the best and well, the one with the brain. If not, why then would you be assigned to head a branch office of your father's company? Who's heading the main one?"
" You will not talk to me like that!" Christ screamed and banged the desk in annoyance.
Kevin raised a confused brow at him, "How am I supposed to talk to you? When I got a promotion to come here, it was the best. I was paid twice just to come here. And you?" He smirked.
" You were pushed here. And the authority goes to me, Mister. If you push me too much, I will resign."
Christ's eyes shot out, " then so be it!" He yelled, anxiously.
Kevin chuckled and delved into his pocket for his phone. He brought it out and dialed a number. He placed it on the table as it rings.
"Yes, Mr. Kevin," a deep voice came out from the speaker. Kevin looked up at Christ with a teasing smile.
"So, What do you say? Should I resign or not?"
Christ grunted, " Hey dad, I wanted to tell you something but I will do so later," he hung up and stared back at Kevin, " What do you want?"
"Apologize to me for what you said," he said as a matter of factly.
Christ groaned annoyingly, "I'm sorry about it all."
"Good!" Kevin breathe out and with a last look, he walked out of the office
He took it to the second level, to the customer care floor
He would control the company to a greater height. And yes, no employee of his would mock him behind him.
He would deal with them. It never matters, he was the CEO and they were supposed to learn how to mind their business.
He knew their names. He had already researched about that. The only reason why he waited for that long was because he was thinking of a suitable way to punish them.
And he just found a way out.
He stopped briefly at the mini office that was designed for the customer services of the company.
The employees went silent the moment he walked in, each signifying to the other why they should keep mute.
The Team leader walked nearer to him and bow slightly, "Mr. Smith, why are you here?"
Kevin looked away, watching the ladies and looking for the ones he wanted. He didn't see anyways, maybe it was how the office was designed, " I want Lisa Bicknell and Rachel Trevor to come out in this instance!" His voice was harsh and you can easily depict his annoyance from it.
It took a few minutes before the two ladies moved forward.
Kevin regarded them for a moment and laughed. He didn't believe the two ladies that abused his secretary and looked down on him were the account representative of the company.
Actually, Christ was the one that employed them. He would have loved to fire them but it would be very embarrassing to Christ.
And since he had apologized, he didn't want to go further.
"How much do these two earn individually?" He murmured. Actually, the question was meant for the Team leader but everyone around him heard. He intentionally made his voice thicker as he watched the two ladies fidgeting in front of him.
The team leader rushed out from his sight and went to a nearby computer. Kevin walked closer to him, "Almost three thousand dollars bills," the team leader said and looked back at Kevin.
"Oh," Kevin nodded casually. Since they were earning a salary almost equivalent to the secretary, why won't they talk anyhow?
He wondered who made the salary suggestions.
"Whose salary is the lowest here? And what position?" He inclined his head as he spoke.
The Team leader pressed some buttons on the keyboard and looked back at Kevin again, "The customer service officer earns one thousand and five hundred dollars bills."
Kevin smiled again and looked all around him, at the faces watching him with curiosity. They should watch and tape it down.
Because he wouldn't be taking it easy with anyone that insults him or his secretary.
"Who is currently the customer service officer?"
"That will be Dave McDonald and Lizzy Jean."
Kevin nodded again, " These two should be on their feet," he commanded and watched as two individuals got up.
Kevin watched their faces for a moment. Actually, it seemed like they'd been working in the company for a while without promotion, and now, fortune was smiling down on them.
"These two will get promoted as the Account representatives."
Everyone gasped immediately. They all stared at Kevin with eyes that have gone gobsmacked.
"Lisa Bicknell and Rachel Trevor will be demoted. They will be the customer service officer from henceforth. If they can't cope, they can leave," he turned back to leave but stopped and whirled to look at them again, "Whenever you get employed, you must always learn how to mind your mouth, it might implicate you sometimes."
He looked at the culprits, " These two insulted my personality and that won't be taken lightly. This is the best punishment I can come up with. If I were to go to the extreme, I would have you sacked. You should reflect on your actions and try to impress me, perhaps you might get your job back," he smiled again and walked out.
He took the elevator back to his floor, satisfied by his actions.
He walked inside his office and noted the apology letter again. He had been trying to avoid it for a while now. The reason however is still unknown to him.
He tore it and perused it. He smiled and dropped it on the desk again.
Victoria was his girlfriend and well, talking about her kind of brought back memories of her.
Maybe it was because of that but the day went away so quickly.
A knock jolt him back to the mundane world as he was about to stray away again.
"Yes, you can come in."
The door opened and Myra walked in, "Sir, I wanted you to know I will be leaving," she whispered and opened her mouth to say more but quickly decided against it.
He watched her for a moment, "Is something wrong?"
Myra looked up and caught him staring, "I have an issue actually sir and I need your help."
Kevin sighed, "What is it exactly?"
Myra went silent as she thought of a way to explain her predicament. She didn't know if it was right to tell him the real story behind her demand.
"I'm sorry sir but I just need a huge amount of money to sort something out," she said and looked away quickly.
Kevin regarded her for a moment, " An Advance payment?"
Myra looked up and nodded quickly, "I will be happy sir."
He pulled out his draw and picked up an envelope. He dropped it on his desk, "That's a five thousand dollars bills."
"Oh My!" Myra almost screamed. She picked the money nevertheless, "But sir, my salary isn't five thousand dollars and I don't want my full payment. I will need to survive before the next month," she explained.
Kevin stared at her as if she was on the stage and acting for him, "That was my money and not any advance payment. You will still get your payment by the end of the month," he picked up his briefcase and walked to the stunned, Myra.
Her hand shook around the envelope and there were signs of tears at the corners of her eyes.
Kevin waved it off, "Where are you off to? I can drop you off," he walked towards the door.
Myra turned quickly," Sir, you don't need to_"
" Get inside the car before I fire you!" He interrupted with a thick voice, almost frightening Myra.
He walked out before she could say more. Myra stared for a while, still shocked at what he had just done.
She couldn't stop thinking, she just couldn't wrap her mind around who Kevin Smith really was.
A devil or an Angel?
