Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

'A woman?'

I could live with not helping guards in a fight as they should have been ready for death anytime, anyway. But leaving a woman behind to die at the fangs of monsters like those wolves?

With slightly above 100 MP left, however, I just can't think of a useful attack. A rune of gust would be of no use. On contrary it's probably nothing but a cool breeze to the monsters.

My only chance is to scare the beasts away somehow.

"My runes can create a gust which even looks and sounds natural, so maybe...."

I raise my hand and place a rune on a tree on the other side, a few dozen meters away from me and the wolves. Should the wolves be not scared by what I am planning, they won't find my at least and maybe even hunt the sounds.

'Hope it's a sound which exists in this world...'

The rune on the other site creates an unbelievably loud roaring. It's the roaring how I imagine a dragon based on some movies I've seen. Even though it's only a 100 MP rune, the roar is extraordinarily loud and seems to echo through the entire forest.

A short moment the wolves look up and panic, while the roar still goes on. A few more seconds passed and finally they turn away from the carriage and run.

"Pfew!"

I'm glad it worked out well, but it also means that there are even dragons in this world, or at least creatures that create similar sounds.

After the use of this last rune, my body feels heavy and my mind is dizzy. So using up too much MP comes with the downside of dizziness.

I give my status another look and as assumed I only have some MP in the lower two-digits left.

'Well if they come back I can only rely on my feet then.'

With the wolves gone, I leave my hidden position and walk up to the carriage. Moments passed since I placed the runes, but I can still hear the sobbing inside. Slowly I approach the the backside of the carriage, where the wolves were about to step in, and push away the fabric. Inside the carriage is only one girl, cowering in the backcorner.

"Are you okay?"

From what it looks like she should be around my age. Her blonde hair is very smooth and the skin is pale. In terms of beauty she's a 10 out of 10. I only hope she won't be scared by my appearance since I don't even know, how I look at the moment.

Slowly she raises her head and looks at me with her pure, green eyes while she wipes away the tears.

"You don't need to worry. The wolves and the guards are gone."

"And that roar?" she sobs.

"Well," I smile while rubbing the back of my head "sorry, that was my doing. I needed to scare away the wolves. By the way, do you have a name?"

Before her raising her head I couldn't see it well, but now I get a clear view on a collar around her neck. Counting in how the guards talked about protecting the goods she must be a slave, or at least planned to be sold as a slave.

"My name.... is Myrna" she replies softly.

"Myrna... sounds nice. Nice to meet you Myrna, I am Ryuu."

"What are you going to do now?" she asks, still reserved.

"You don't need to worry. I don't plan to make you a slave or something. To be honest... I just got here recently and am kinda lost."

Not entirely true, but it shouldn't hurt to hide the fact, that I am not from this world. Who knows, how this world's residents react towards outsiders?

"If you want you can come with me to the next village or town and stay there. Of course you can also stay with me afterwards. It's up to you."

Whether it is a choice at all I can't really say. If she doesn't have relatives in a nearby villages she probably won't survive on her own even in a town. But I don't want to force her to join me, even though I can make use of her knowledge of this world.

Slowly I reach out my hand for her to grab. After all it's possible that the wolves will come back, yet I don't want to scare her. Instead I will give her a slight push to move on.

Despite her skin looking so pale, I feel a surprising warmt of her fingers as they grabbed mine.

"By the way" I try to continue the conversation as we left the carriage. "How come you are the only person inside the carriage? Were you captured alone?"

"No." she replies in a weak tone. "I am the only one who survived."

Through her hand I can feel her entire body shivering. Whatever happened in her past few weeks, it must have been horrible.

"Don't worry. From now on everything will be ok. I promise."

"Yeah.."

Myrna doesn't seem convinced but considering the situation it's fine. What matters most now is leaving this place behind so that we won't get caught by the pack.

Without exchanging a single word, we sometimes glance at each other, still holding our hands. It feels kinda awkward but I can't they whether it's only this situation, or because I turned socially awkward in my former world.

Only when the carriage was out of sight, Myrna let go of my hand and walked on her own.

"I'm sorry," she whispers.

"What for?"

"Letting go of your hand all on sudden?" she explains.

"Silly. I held your hand because it seemed to calm you. If you don't need to calm anymorey then you don't need to calm."

Even though the warmth was something to get used to, it's not like I expected this feeling for the rest of the journey.

"Sorry."

I can't but smile at the situation. Sure, she is very shy but somehow it feels like I can trust her.

"Do you know any city or village in this place, Myrna?"

"Let me think.... there is the city Tovol. It's the place where the guards wanted to sell me."

Her words make me stop instantly. Going to the place where she should be sold as a slave? Is it really even an option?

"You are sure about that?" I ask to confirm. "We can go for another city if you want to."

Myrna nods her head.

"It's fine. I believe Ryuu will protect me."

For a just rescued to-be slave she has gotten used to her new environment really fast. It's stunning and admirable at the same time. However, since she is sure about it I don't see a problem.

"Tovol it is, then."
