Chapter 14 - Volume 1.14 Journey of the Honourable (1)

A distant memory from the second life...

"Ether, my daughter look," Ether who was no older than twelve years old, looked at the horizon below her. It was such a beautiful sight, with bountiful farmlands and she could even see the sea on the far horizon.

The sky was clear and the warm breeze was refreshing to the feeling.

"Before you were born, this land is not like this." Ether glanced at the man taller than her. He was around the middle ages. He had a warm smile on his face. He was the father of Ether in her second life. "You're a genius, Ether. Even, it's hard for me to come up with the ideas and inventions you recreated. As if you are from another world."

"What if I did, father." Ether looked at the vast and rich horizons that behold them. She could feel the looked of confusion, her father of her second life hitting her. She smiled. "More like, I have memories of my past life. The world I lived in, is much more modern than this place. But you see, father." Ether faced her father, a huge grin on her face.

"But this place is much fun," she opened her right palm and a twirl of wind emerged from it. "This place has magic, which is different from that place. Do you believe everything I said, father? Or will you condemn me now as a witch and burn me to a stake?" She looked into the eyes of her father.

There was a momentary silence that filled the air before her father broke it. He laughed heartily, which made Ether look at him in confusion. "Silly child, how can I condemn my genius and adorable daughter." he said as he make a mess of Ether's hair.

"Stop that, old man." Ether retorted as she tried to remove the hands of her father from her head.

"Who are you calling old man, brat." Her father retracted his hands then returned his gaze back to the horizons. "But if you live in such a world, then everything you brought here, makes sense now. It brought brightness to all our people here. No one died anymore last winter due to starvation. Incurable diseases have found their medicine. And there are even technologies and organization systems that made the work of people more efficient and effective. Plus we got to eat new varieties of delicious food that we don't know it's possible to make. How can I condemn such a miracle,"

'Miracle, huh.' Ether returned her gaze to the horizons. "Yeah, right. Even if you praised it like that, I'll still never cook that steak again." Ether turned around.

"Eh! You're so cruel my child!"

"I already gave the recipe to our cook, what else did you need father."

"If it's you who cook, it becomes tastier."

A genuine smile was on Ether's lips as she walked away. Though even if she didn't look back, she knew the fact that her father's expression was making. He was probably pouting while scratching the back of his head.

But this was just the normal exchange between her and her father.

"I'll think about it when I have time." Ether waved back then the wind surrounded her feet. She started flying in the air.

"Don't just think about it. If you cook, I'll let you call me old man for the rest of my life!' Her father shouted.

Ether shook her head as she ascended high enough. "See you later, father!" She flew fast forward heading in the Southern direction of their mansion. But she didn't know that time, was the last time she would see her father and the bountiful territory she built together with him.

Back at the present third life...

Ether opened her eyes slowly. She slowly raised her body from the bed and leaned her head on the headboard of her bed. She felt something ticklish on the right side of her cheek, and her eyes widened. Then it narrowed down.

"It's wet..." A calm smile escaped her face. "Seriously, is it because my body is younger in this world, that I shed a tear at a single memory."

She slowly brought down her feet on the blue carpeted ground. Then stood up. With a flick of her finger, the bed sheets and the pillow were arranged.

Ether walked towards the window of her room and opened her windows. As soon as she did, the wind blew. The white drapes on the window fluttered along with it.

From her room, she could see the horizon below her. The sun was still rising in the East, giving melancholic colors that played between blue, red, and orange in the sky. There were birds that were flying as well. The breeze, made the trees and plants dance in their own motion.

"I have gained another territory huh? Is that the reason why I have dreamt of some long-buried memory? Compared to that place, I will start from scratch here again." A smile escaped her lips. A genuine smile escaped her lips. "It's been thousands of years, I wonder how much I can make a progress this time."

Knock. Knock. Knock.

"Good Morning Milady, It's me, Nellie."

"Please come in," Ether said without turning her head back at the head maid who entered her room.

"You have awakened earlier today, Milady."

"I just can't wait to start the day." Ether said while still facing the horizon. "There are still a lot of things to do now."

Ether heard Nellie let out a heavy sigh. "It's fortunate for us that the baron has been punished. But with him gone, the more I realized the terrible state the viscounty has become."

"We don't need to dwell on things that are gone now," this time Ether faced Nellie. "Have you finished what I asked you to do?"

"Yes, Milady." Nellie bowed down. "Master Yuu, helped fixed all the accounts of the viscounty, but there is still a lot to investigate with."

"I see..." Ether marched towards Nether. "Let's make my morning preparations quick and start our tasks right now."

"What task, Milady?"

"Silly, Nellie. Of course, managing my viscounty." Ether said with a grin on her face.
