Nellie Mcgarf
The head maid of the Viscount served for three generations. She was a woman in her sixties now. At one glance everyone could see that she was a kind lady with soft expression on her face. However her dark eyes were that of a wise person of her age.
Nellie entered the room with another young maid tailing behind her.
'I felt bad for deceiving them like this.' Ether sighed inwardly as the head maid entered.
The Viscount couple had never ever had a child despite being married for twenty years. And they met with a tragic accident three months ago when the carriage they were riding in the capital fell off a cliff. They didn't have any relatives either to inherit their lands and riches. And would be given to another lord by the empire sooner or later.
That was all in the memory Ruth gave Ether about her new identity. 'There are so many loopholes, like what will happen to the lord that was going to get this land. How am I registered as the Viscount Daughter? Does my overwritten identity affect the whole empire or to the world itself? There were so many things that didn't fit right. But I guess Ruth is really a goddess to be able to tweak things here and there. I'm so trusting right? It's not like I have that many to lose either so I'll just go with the flow.'
"Milady, do you wish to have your breakfast served here?" Nellie asked.
"Oh perfect timing! I'm hungry as well!" Yu said with anticipation.
"I'll eat in the dining room," Ether said, acting out the role of her noble.
"As you wish, Milady." Nellie briefly bowed then gestured to the maid behind her. "Tell the others that Milady would eat at the dining room."
After the maid left, Nellie helped Ether to her morning routines. Though Ether could do everything herself, but as a noble lady, she just let Nellie do as she wishes to not make things awkward. Since this was her job. And Ether was also a noble lady before she secluded herself in the cave for two millennials.
Ether wore a simple flowy blue long dress, and her chocolate hair was just let loose. When she looked at herself in the mirror, her purple eyes stared at her. 'So I have the same appearance as my second life. Only much younger. Good thing, that I don't need to adjust with a new body and new appearance. And even my name is the same as before well except for my surname.'
After all the preparations, Nellie guided Ether through the hallways towards the dining room.
'Hmm. Though my identity is something created, let's test the waters and get more information.'
"Nellie, can I ask a question?"
"You may freely ask anything Milady. Since your parents' death. This old maid is willing to do anything to serve you."
'Hah. The arrow of guilt struck me again.' Ether just sigh inwardly.
"Then Nellie, can you tell me everything about myself since I was young?"
'Is Milady wanting to recall every bit of her childhood with her parents? She really missed them. My poor lady.'
Though Ether could not read Nellie's thoughts. But with her look of pity, Ether have an ounce of what she might be thinking.
"If that is what Milady wished, I'll be glad to tell you. But this might be a long story."
"It's alright." Ether smiled. "I don't mind."
"Then I'll begin, Milady. When you are born, the Madame, the Viscount and everyone in the manor, were greatly overjoyed. With hair that is like the sweet chocolate delicacy and beautiful purple eyes that sparkled like the purest amethyst. And with laughter that sounds like the angels and beautiful..."
"Thank you for your praise, Nellie. And I know I'm beautiful," Ether stopped Nellie from further praising her. "But please proceed to the main story now," she said as she smiled with awkwardness.
"What's this? Are you not happy that she is praising you?" Yu flew above her. "I thought you love praises. The strongest archmage alive! She is so awesome, that the caused for her death is being poisoned by some trashy potion she created in order to become stronger..."
"Get lost,"
Yu didn't have the chance to finish her words when she was hit by an invisible strong force that sent her flying away a few meters.
"Um, Milady, I don't mean to be rude," Ether's attention returns to Nellie. "But who are you talking to in your room and just now?"
"Ah, that."
"You're so mean, Master." Yu returned after a quick moment. There was now a huge lump on his head.
"I forgot that you can't see her." Ether flicked her right fingers, and Yu suddenly appeared. "This is Yu. She is my familiar."
"I see, then nice to meet you Master Yu."
"Are you not surprised about this?" Ether asked.
"No, if it is Milady, you are always been full of surprises since you were a child."
'Just what kind of memories did Ruth ingrained in their minds.' Ether couldn't help but wonder. 'Let's just ask her directly about me.' However before they could ever continue their conversation, they were interrupted by one of the maids that opened the door for them. They arrived now at the entrance of the dining hall.
"Good morning, Milady," the maid said as she gestured for Ether to come inside. They already reached the dining table. In front of Ether was a long empty rectangular table with ten chairs surrounding it.
There were more than five to ten maids waiting inside. "Please have a seat, Milady." Nellie said as she guided Ether to her seat. She pulled the seat for her, and Ether sat there without saying anything. Nellie then clapped her hands and a line of chefs brought different kinds of dishes towards the table.
The meal ranged from different dishes of meat to garnishes and soups. There was even an expensive looking purple drink, that smelled of berries, beside the dishes.
Yu's eyes watered seeing the mouthwatering dishes. Nellie gestured for the maids to bring some plates and utensils for her to eat as well. "Milady, Master Yu, your breakfast is served."
'Breakfast huh?' Ether couldn't help but smile in astonishment. 'It's been so long since I had a luxurious breakfast like this.'
Yu, being called Master for the second time, straightened herself in the chair and picked up the spoon and fork. She wanted to act dignified. However at first, she was having trouble holding the spoon and fork due to his dragon paws. Ether giggled at her, but the small white dragon glared back at her. After many trials and errors, in the end she simply gave up. She used a cleaning spell to clean her hand and started using bare hands to eat. Ether also started eating as well.
