Lu Feng's POV
I've been in this office for the past two hours, listening to my chief secretary interview applicants. My brother needs a female assistant, and here they are trying to impress me, seduce me, and get a glimpse of the elusive CEO. 'What am I, a rare Pokémon?'
Honestly, my brother doesn't need secretaries, he already have enough.
What I really want him to have is a female personal assistant.
Then I hear her name: Xu Xiao. A familiar voice that makes me raise an eyebrow. She dares to step back into my kingdom? The boldness
I lean in, intrigued by her boldness and frankness. This girl is a firecracker.
"Han Rou, what does she think of me?" I perk up, ready for the gossip.
Her response shocks me a truth no one has ever dared to say to my face. I smirk, my turn to show her the real me.
"Ohhh, I see. This is amazing. Well, we are leaving the final answers to our C.E.O.," I hear Han Rou say as she bows and sits down.
I turn my magnificent chair slowly as I chuckled silently.
"Ohhhhhh… it's you again?" I chuckle, half-amused, half-annoyed.
"Nice meeting you again, Mr. CEO," Xu Xiao says, throwing me a devilish smile that could ignite a bonfire.
My chair squeaks as I stand up, hitting the glass wall behind me. Smooth move, genius.
"You've got some nerves little girl".
"If I don't have the nerves, how can I become your assistant?" She said professionally.
I stared at her like she was my prey.
Before I can react, Han Rou jumps in.
"Uh, so, um, thank you for coming in! You can come back tomorrow to discuss your role with the C.E.O. Congratulations, Miss Xu Xiao! You're now the personal assistant of the great CEO of this entertainment company." She shakes Xu Xiao's hand like she's giving away a Nobel Prize.
Xu Xiao bows and walks out with a victorious smile, shooting me a look that says, 'I'll see you later, big guy.'
The nerves
'Is she working for Han Rou or me?'
"Thank you, Mr. Lu Cheng, for this golden opportunity to work for you. I promise no regrets, sir." She looks back at me one last time, and then she's gone.
END OF POV
Ivy's POV
'I honestly thought he was going to ruin me. I would have stayed silent until he yelled at me. It drives me nuts when people yell. Like, seriously, why? It's not like yelling makes you any cooler. If I knew him on a personal level, I'd probably cry. But he's a stranger, so when a stranger yells at me, I yell back. That's just how I roll!'
'Maybe my 'abnormalness' just lost me a great job opportunity. But hey, I got the job even if the CEO doesn't fully accept me yet!'
Ivy was so nervous she felt the need to talk to someone, and the only person available was Pearl. She dug her phone out of her bag, but in her excitement, her earpiece fell out. In the chaos of retrieving it, she accidentally bumped into someone.
'Did I just bump into a guy?'
She raised her head, her jaw dropping at the sight of him.
"Sorry! Please watch where you're going next time so you don't hurt people," he said, his tone casual, but his eyes gleamed with a hint of mischief.
"Sure, t-t-t-thanks!" Ivy stammered, her cheeks burning as she stared at him like he was a rare species.
The guy eyed her from head to toe like she was a new fashion trend and bowed slightly before walking off.
'So handsome. Gu Rong!! The top leading actor in this country. Wow. Maybe I'm destined to see all the good-looking men in this company. I'm so lucky. I envy Pearl for getting to talk to these people!'
Shaking off her thoughts, Ivy resumed her journey, mentally replaying her encounter with the actor. She dialed Pearl's number as she walked, excitement bubbling over.
"Hello, baby!" Pearl chirped.
"Hey, dear! I got the job!"
"Seriously? Oh wow, I'm so happy for you! We are celebrating! Are you done?"
"Not yet! I just bumped into Gu Rong! He's so tall, huge, handsome, and fashionista-level fashionable!"
"Hmmm, that's cool! You need to get used to it because you're now like a mini-god in our company! You're the only link to the C.E.O.! Everyone will be approaching you for favors," Pearl said, her voice dripping with excitement.
"Speaking of which, what was the C.E.O.'s reaction when he saw you?"
Ivy sighed. "He yelled at me."
"Typical. You're getting the full experience, huh?" Pearl snorted.
"Ugh, don't remind me. I mean, if someone had yelled at me like that in high school, I would've curled up in a ball and cried. But I yelled back! What's wrong with me?"
"You know, this 'I-can-yell-back-at-CEOs' thing might just be your hidden talent!" Pearl chuckled.
"Sure, I'll add that to my resume. 'Skills: yelling back at authority figures.'"
"Don't forget the part about how you did it in front of other employees! That's bonus points!"
Ivy laughed, but quickly stifled it as she realized she was in a corporate building. "Okay, let me give you the full details," she said, looking around.
Suddenly, Ivy found herself at a crossroads literally. She stood at the foot of two staircases. 'This is still the 49th floor?'
"I thought someone wanted the full details?" Pearl's voice chimed in, clearly exasperated.
"Sorry! I freaked out. How many floors are in this company?"
"We have 55 floors."
"Great. I'm on the 49th floor, where I did my training. I left that office and after a two-minute walk, I bumped into Gu Rong! Now I've been walking for five minutes and I'm in front of two staircases. One is going left and the other right. Which one should I take?"
"Oh baby, I don't know about the 49th floor because that's where interviews and training happen."
"Okay, I think I'm lost."
"Take the right staircase! Is there an elevator?"
Ivy looked around, spotting nothing but silence and emptiness.
"No elevator. This place is too quiet."
"Okay, take the right stairs, and don't hang up! If you get lost, I'll call one of my seniors to help you."
Ivy walked to the right staircase, climbing slowly. After four exhausting minutes, she heard male voices and paused.
"I just heard people talking! Male voices!" she whispered, excitement creeping into her voice.
"Gosh. I hope you're not on one of the 20th floors because that's where the band studios are!" Pearl warned.
"Ohh, okay! Let me check it out!" Ivy said, taking a deep breath.
As she walked closer, trying to sneak a peek, she tripped over her own feet, tumbling headfirst into the studio.
The guys in the studio froze, eyes wide like deer caught in headlights.
"Ivy!! Are you okay?" Pearl shouted through the phone, panic lacing her voice.
"Sure!" Ivy replied, lifting her head and spotting five cute young guys, all staring at her like she was an alien.
"Seems you missed your way, ma'am," one of them said, a smirk dancing on his lips.
*Oh great. I really need to stop making entrances like this!* Ivy thought, trying to regain her composure. "Yes, yes! I'm just here to audition for the role of 'the girl who crashes into band practice.' Is this where I sign up?"
The boys burst into laughter, clearly entertained.
"Sorry, we're all booked up for roles like that," one said, grinning. "But feel free to crash anytime!"
Ivy laughed, her embarrassment fading. Maybe this day wasn't going to be so bad after all.
