I saw her smile broadly, but it was a shame that I was going to take all of that happiness from her.
'Mum, I'm not going to marry Bryan. I have no idea where you got that notion, but you should stop thinking that way.' I zipped my bag.
She folded her arms and stared at me. I could tell that a million things were going through her mind but that was exactly what I wanted.

'I never told him I was going to marry him. And I can't just settle with him because we had a baby.'
'That should be your reason for settling with him.' Mum said.
'Well then, maybe we can reach a compromise. If you tell me about what Emily has been doing to you and dad, then maybe I'll consider marrying Bryan.'
