I could not blame Albert. It was too hard for me to juggle work and family and he had made it too easy for me to choose sides, but the sad thing was, he had cut off my income totally.
I opened the envelope and there was a letter and a check. A sum of fifteen thousand dollars was written on it. I did not care for the money. I was embarrassed by it in fact.
Albert thought so little of me that he sent me a check with a huge sum. It almost felt like I was begging.
I spent the rest of the day being angry at everything and everyone. I had lost my job. I was back to square one.
'Why are you so angry, Alicia?' Mum asked.
'Emily came earlier to give me my letter of relief from my job.'
'Albert fired you?' She asked.
'Mum, forget it. What's important is finding Kassy.'
'There is no source of income, Alicia. Your father left his job, I left mine and now you got fired.'
