'Is something the matter?'
I wanted to hear her tell me she dropped the charges against Nate. it was going to make mum feel so much better but the expression on her face told me those were not the words she was going to say to me.
'I spoke to my lawyer, as much as I hate your brother, you and your sister seem like sweet people.'
I felt my heart pause, and then begin to race.
Was she withdrawing the case? Or was she going to pull some strings to make Nate's sentence lighter?
I moved uneasily on my seat and kept my eyes fixed on her pale white skin. She did not blink once, she kept staring at me too and soon, the silence began to make me uncomfortable.
'I can't withdraw the case, it's gone too far, I just want you to spend as much time as you can with your brother because I've got the best lawyer and we'll make sure your brother pays for his crime with his life.'
She stood up.
