What she failed to realize was that we loved her no matter how little she could bring into the family but like water poured on stone, all our talks about rest fell on deaf ears.
I admired her work ethic but watching her sit down crouched like that made me realize she had been working a little too hard and what hurt most was the fact that there was nothing I could do about it because it was for me that she pushed herself extra hard.
'Mum, you need to drop that job.' I sat down.
She raised her head, looked at me and smiled. There were tears in her eyes. I had no idea why she was crying but I knew I had to comfort her.
I hugged her. She felt small and tender.
'I love you mum, I don't say it enough.'
I heard her sob a little.
'Is something wrong?' I asked her.
'No Kassandra. I just remembered how small you were when you were born, now you're just so big.' She laughed.
