When Dahlia had left the house that morning, Elio had acted like he was still asleep just to avoid a conversation with her and a revisit of the conversation they had the previous night. He was afraid that he might lose control of his anger and say mean things to her. Something he didn't want for any reason whatsoever, mainly because he respects her and he could tell that any discussion they chose to have that morning was going to ruin her day or make it a bad start for her.
He was not able to sleep all night. He kept rolling all around with thoughts of how he was a loser filling his heart. Memories he had shared with her kept replying in his head as well as the fantasies and daydreams he had about her. His attempt to shut these thoughts off his head proved useless.
