Chapter 11 - I don't have a home to go to

Park Kwan was working in her cabin diligently. Along with her, the entire team was staying back because they had to take a final look and check on the presentation, that was to be presented to the higher-ups of the company tomorrow. The entire marketing department was busy right now. Park Kwan still planned on staying the entire night in the office. She didn't want to go back to that empty house but Chairman Ko had strictly ordered, the office building to be closed by eight at night. It was seven at the night right now. The team was checking up on the presentation and some last-minute verifications were going on.

Kwan was really angry at Chairman Ko. She knew he had ordered such a command just to get her away from the building. After half an hour, their work was done and everybody was preparing to go home. Kwan was also settling her thing together to leave the office. She picked up her handbag and some files along with her laptop bag and left her office cabin. Her subordinates wished her goodnight on her way to the elevator. Some hailed the elevator along with her and exchanged a few good words with her.

When Kwan walked out of the building, she noticed a car parked. It was the car of Chairman Ko, it seemed he had been waiting for her. She was annoyed by his actions, so she royally ignored his car and started walking out on the pavement towards the subway station. As she stepped ahead the bodyguards of Chairman Ko walked ahead and stopped her way. They were all respectful to the young lady as they knew one scratch and they'll die in the hands of the old man they worked for. "Miss, please hear the master out. He has been waiting for you for an hour now." Kwan sighed hearing one of the bulky man's words. She turned around with a frown and walked towards the car in fury.

"What do you want now? I'm leaving the office. Is this not enough for you? Do you want to follow me back to the apartment?" Chairman Ko silently heard her words, sitting inside the car with the windows rolled down. His necktie and coat were lying beside him on the seat. He looked at her with his soft tender gaze and noticed how she didn't even call that place her home. It's true though, an empty piece of an apartment with no warmth could never become home to someone. He knew she didn't want to go there. But staying at the office all the time and working like a machine would not even help. Instead, it would harm her in another way. It would affect her health and well-being.

Chairman sighed and then opened the door of the car and got out of the car. Adjusting his coat and carrying his hand-phone in his left hand. He stood in front of Kwan. His sudden moments made everybody confused around him. Kwan frowned looking at him. "Grandpa Ko, what do you mean by this now?" Even the bodyguards behind them were bewildered. They could not understand why their boss had come out of the car. Chairman Ko looked at the young woman in front of him. He always treated this child as his granddaughter. He cared for her more than his kin. He raised his hand and put it on Kwan's head. "Come home with me, child. I know you don't want to go back to that empty place. I've always considered you as my family. Come and live with this old man. My everything is yours and you know this right?"

Kwan was not surprised by his offer. He had often told her to come and live with him at the Ko mansion. But she always hesitated to go and live there with him. 'Home', this word always seems foreign to her. Where was home? Could Ko mansion be her home but until when? She was not a member of the Ko family. How could she call the Ko family hers? "Grandpa Ko, I know you care a lot for me. But still, how can I come and live with you? You have your own family and everything you have is theirs, not mine?" I'm fine this way. Don't worry. Go home and rest. I'll take care of myself."

Chairman Ko stared at her. One could see that he was unhappy with Kwan's words. But he could do nothing about it. He cared too much for this granddaughter of his. Although she was not his granddaughter, he still believed she was closer to him than any other kin. He could not force Kwan to come and live with him in the old Ko mansion. But she could not deny that he was her family. Her grandfather." Kwan, if you don't want to come and live with me then I can understand and I won't mind it but never utter such useless words out of your mouth. I'm your family because you are my family. I don't have any other family. Everything I've is ultimately yours. Even this company, in front of you. One day you'll have to take over this company and every other asset I own. Understood? Family is nothing about bloodline. It's about love, care, and understanding for each other. Keep this in mind. Today come back to the old mansion with me and have dinner together. I won't force you to live there. Let's go"

Kwan heard every word while looking towards the busy road. She never understood why this old man cared for her this much. He had his grandchildren who had accomplished much more than her. But still, he cared about her and not them. She turned and looked back at the old man. He looked old and worn out. Years of experience and work had finally taken a toll on him. He looked weak and tired. She was worried for him. Looking at her only support being this frail always scared her. What if he too left her like all of them? Then how would she live her life? She moved ahead and stood beside him holding his hand and supporting him. "Grandpa, It's cold outside let's get back into the car. I'll do as you say. Don't worry. Let's go, today I'll have dinner with you."

"But Kwan, dear you can't ride in a car. You know this right? Let's go home by metro. I can accommodate it for a day." Chairman Ko said in his soft voice, patting Kwan's hand placed on his arms. His bodyguards were stunned hearing his words. Their boss wanted to go home by metro just because young miss could not accommodate in a car. They then turned towards their young miss in bewilderment. Even Kwan was surprised by his words. Grandfather Ko wanted to go home by metro just for her. She chuckled in nervousness, as the bodyguards were even looking at her, bewildered.

"Grandpa, you go by car. I'll come home by metro. You'll get tired if you'll travel by metro. Go home with your bodyguards and I'll be home too in no time." Kwan made the old man understand like a small child. Even the bodyguards standing there hid their chuckles. Grandpa Ko seemed offended. Did this young woman in front of him, treat him like a child? "I'll go with you to the metro. And why can't I go with you? I'm perfectly fine. And who's the elder here? Don't try to act smart Kwan." Kwan couldn't help but laugh at the sulking old man.
