He looked at his new sword and tried using its ability. He focused on a beam of slime, similar to what he had seen the boss slime do. Alex's mind painted a perfectly clear picture of how the slime's beam looked. A few seconds later, tiny holes on the sword opened, and air was sucked in at a rapid rate.
The air mixed with magic, replicating what the boss slime did, but inside the sword, creating intense air pressure. Alex gripped the sword with both hands and pointed it in a random direction. A stream about the size of a fist of toxic slime shot out, but the recoil almost threw Alex off his feet.
The sword had a cooldown of 5 minutes, which could change based on the power of the attack. After Alex was done with the sword, he put it back in his sheath and placed the gold emerald ring on his finger.
Alex decided to examine the ring through the system to see its stats. "This ring is a unique boss reward," Alex thought to himself. "So the sword was the reward for defeating the boss without skills or with other people. This is the reward for killing a unique boss."
He continued to look at the stats of the ring. The description read, "Fires a fiery fireball, has a cooldown of ten seconds, and requires ten mana to cast." This was all Alex needed to know.
He was extremely excited to try out the ring and pointed it at a wall. The ring took this as a sign to cast a fireball, and a strange circle filled with symbols formed at the front of the ring, creating a fireball. Moments later, the fireball was launched, causing a big explosion on the other side of the room.
Alex had fired the fireball in the same direction he had fired the sword, and the slime caught on fire. Alex chuckled to himself and said out loud, "Now that will come in handy later."
Alex quickly scanned the room and noticed a door had appeared. This door was different from the one he had entered through. It was made of a gold-like metal and amazingly shiny iron, with an intricate design similar to the previous door.
Just like the previous door, it opened easily. The room he entered was smaller compared to the room where he fought the slime. It was about the size of an average living room.
The difference between the two rooms was like night and day, with the boss room looking run down. This place had wood-lined stone tiles that appeared to have been recently placed. The treasure room's walls were adorned with paintings. There was a chair, a couch, and a bed, all of which looked recently cleaned.
In the center of the room, there was a chest made of wood and silver. The wood was smooth, and it seemed to be carved from a single tree. The edges of the chest were lined with a very fine and shiny silver.
Alex opened the chest and found a pair of brown pants ranked F and a neatly folded white T-shirt ranked E. His shirt had been ruined during the boss's sneak attack, so he wanted to check the stats of the pants through the system. Although the pants had taken minimal damage, they were of F-rank, which meant they were an item.
Alex didn't have high hopes for them like the boss's items. He checked the stats through the system, and the description read, "An old pair of pants worn by a hardworking lumberjack. These pants make it slightly easier to carry wood." Alex sighed, feeling grateful yet disappointed. Compared to the items he had obtained before, these pants didn't even deserve a rank. Alex sighed and said to himself, "At least it doesn't have a negative attribute," and put on the pants.
Lastly, Alex checked the stats of the white shirt through the system. The description read, "A shirt that looks elegant, gives the wearer a 20-point boost to mana." Alex's mana was now at 120.
From the chest, a green crystal popped out. Alex became overjoyed and almost started to cry. He had come inches away from dying, so he was happy that it was over, at least for now. Alex touched the crystal, and it gave him the option to return to the realm or stay. Alex clicked "return."
He closed his eyes and when he opened them again, he was outside the F-rank ruin that had nearly killed him. By the time he got out, it was hot and around midday. He decided to make use of the daylight hours and build a small shelter a little distance away from the ruin.
After an hour of rest, he realized that he had come out empty-handed in terms of things to sell. He needed to go back to find some low-level items to sell. Alex felt relieved, remembering the numbers of something like that happening again, and now he had items that could help him if it did.
Alex ate about half of the jerky he had left and marched right back into the ruin that had nearly killed him before.
