Chapter 45 - Intermission: Lullaby and the Lord

Paragon Village. It is a village with unaccountable years of history. One family, the Scarlet Family, has been reigning over the village and is now known as one of the richest families on the human continent. Perhaps even the whole world.

There have been rumours floating around though, about the Scarlet Family. One is that the family has only ever produced girls and never boys. If someone checks their ancestry history, then that fact can be proven, but no one can prove it because there is no ancestry history.

And, finally, the second is that every single child of the Scarlet Family looks the exact same and that they do not age. Of course, that is but a rumour.

Or so, Morel wants to believe.

Morel Trent–The Lord of Paragon Village, and the one who manages it. Over than those who have been summoned to the Scarlet Mansion and the servants of Avera, no one knows of the appearance of Avera Scarlet. All other than the Lord.

The Lord, Morel, wants to overthrow Avera Scarlet and her rule. She wants to steal her power, authority, and riches. Avera Scarlet is only ten-years-old, or so the villagers, and even Lord, believe.

'Tch! In the end, she's just a girl spoiling herself. Why does she act all high and mighty?! I'll finish her off eventually! Oi, where are those assassins I ordered?!'

Morel was, indeed, a corrupt politic and Lord. He only did things correctly for face, fame and publicity. In reality, he would do it in future hopes of ruling the whole territory. But he couldn't do anything of the type. Not until his next meeting with the girl.

The doors of Morel's office opened. A woman came through. Her hair was orange and short, while her eyes were green. She wore a black suit and tie. She was Morel's attendant–Christiana. Christ for short.

Morel stared daggers into her. He was ready to scold her but he told her to come inside. Christiana looked nervous as she slowly sauntered toward him. The reason why Morel didn't scold Christiana was because she was his outlet for rage and lust. She nervously approached him and stood by his side.

'Eek!'

She stood still even though Morel slapped her ass. Tears slowly started dripping from her eyes, but Morel started laughing once he saw the tears in her eyes.

'Why're you crying, Christ?! You're going to be my wife after we overthrow the girl. You'll have it all... So, what were you going to tell me?'

'Y-your assassins hav-have arrived.'

Christiana felt uncomfortable since Morel continued to caress her ass. He took his hand off of her ass and felt his hand. Morel slightly looked displeased.

'You're wearing shorts, aren't you?'

He said, nonchalant. Christiana froze. Not saying anything. She simply stared at the ground. Morel was angry, but if she continues to deny it, it would only make the situation worse. Seeing her silence, he stood up and walked in front of her. He slapped her, or so he thought.

For some reason, his hand stopped an inch short of her face. Christiana had closed her eyes, to prepare for the blow, but she opened her eyes once she didn't feel anything. Morel was shaking. It was uncontrollable. Something he's never felt before on this level.

Fear. He was feeling fear. Death was ready to bring him in.

'Don't hit her.'

A soft voice said. The feeling of death faded and Morel turned around, in a panic. There were four people. He looked down. There was a girl. She wielded a knife. Her hair was snow-white and her eyes were crystal blue. She wore a cloak.

'Y-you... Why does that matter?! She's my property! So just shut–'

'Why don't you shut up?'

One of the three said. It was a man. He looked fairly average, however, what he aimed at the Lord wasn't. A black object which fit the man's hand like a glove. A gun. A pistol, to be precise. Morel knew the black object in his hand and instantly shut his mouth.

The man withdrew his pistol.

'So, how much will you pay for us killing Scarlet?'

Another man in the room asked. He looked older and tougher than the previous man with the gun.

'Tch... First, tell me your names.'

A girl, from behind the two men walked forward. She looked to be the strongest out of the four. Her hair was red and her eyes were yellow. She wore a black cloak.

'We're all called Lullaby. I am Risk. That one with the gun is Eisan, and that big guy is Xander. Oh, and that girl there is our slave. She doesn't have a name.'

The girl seemed very relaxed despite talking to her provider. Her name was the exact thing she liked to take. Risks. Morel ignored it and started to negotiate a price with them. He sat back at his desk and ignored Christiana.

'Look. Kill Scarlet and her maid, the one with the ugly scar on her face. I'll pay you each 10 platinum Ørn.'

He took a glance at the unnamed girl.

'That'll be 30 platinum in total, excluding your slave girl. I'm sure you'll accept it, right?'

Morel threw a whole bag of coins onto his desk. Eisan walked over and examined the bag without opening it. He nodded at Risk. She seemed to trust his evaluation. Risk then turned to Morel.

'Yeah, I accept it. So, when should we attack her mansion?'

'She isn't alone.'

It wasn't Morel who said it. Neither was it Christiana. It was the nameless girl with snow-white hair. She was staring blankly at the ground but it was like she could see something.

'Girl, tell me who else.'

Risk ordered.

'There is a boy with black hair and eyes. He's very strong. Stronger than Eisan.'

They all stared at the girl. Eisan looked shocked and Xander appeared to be offended, despite it not being him who is being compared. Risk vividly smiled.

'That'll be fun. I'll take him on, and the rest just focus on killing Scarlet and the scarred maid. He may be stronger than Eisan, but I'm still stronger than both.'

Everyone is Lullaby nodded. Their plan would take place the following day, though things would work differently from what they had in mind. Three out of four of them would face a bloody end, while the other would live a different life from their current one.
