Chapter 9 - 9. How Are You?

Those eyes opened after previously feeling the pain in her arm. Neutralizing the light of her eyes with the bright lights above her, then he started to look around. The room is all white and lying on the bed.

Michaella closed her eyes again, trying to remember what had happened earlier. Her motorbike was hit and her body was fall down on the street. The sky is blue and everything is dark. So, she had an accident. When did that happen? She felt like she had been asleep for a long time but he could still feel the pain in her arm.

Michaella opened her eyes again. She turned because she felt something moving and it was Araya who was still fast asleep. Michaella noticed the calm look on Araya's sleeping face, the blackened eyelids, and dry lips. How long had she been unconscious that Araya didn't even take good care of her body? Michaella exhaled slowly after that.

Araya woke up after hearing a sound. Her eyes immediately saw Michaella who was staring at her in silence. Araya smiled and sat up straight.

"Are you been aware? Are you hungry? Do you want a drink? Are you tired?"

Michaella smiled faintly. Araya still tries to care for herself when the girl herself needs it. Michaella shook her head after that.

Araya thought for a moment. "Then… How are you?"

Michaella was silent. Her eyes continued to stare intently at Araya who showed a different face. This time it looks sad and worried even though the girl showed a smile. Michaella only saw sadness in it, but she also didn't know what made Araya sad. If only Michaella hadn't had an accident to just lie in bed like this, she might have asked. Comforting Araya not to be sad and then taking the girl out for fun.

Araya tried to resuscitate Michaella with a movement of her hand, but the girl remained silent and didn't seem bothered in the slightest. Michaella remained calm with her silence and gaze.

"Micha..."

Michaella blinked and looked back at Araya. One eyebrow was raised with a questioning look on her face, but her lips were still tightly shut in silence.

"How are you?"

Michaella nodded and showed a faint smile. "I'm fine," she answered in a low voice.

Araya hugged Michaella. Channeling all the longing and worrying about Michaella's condition. The girl was just silent watching Araya's actions.

"I will call the doctor to examine you. Wait here," Araya said as she immediately dashed out of the room.

Michaella fell silent again. Her eyes scanned every detail of the room and exhaled slowly. She felt her arm, which was still bandaged, and perhaps the doctor had already informed Araya that he had gunshot wounds to her body. Michaella just didn't want to make Araya think anything worse, so she deliberately hid what happened that night.

Michaella turned as soon as the door opened. She saw Araya who came with a doctor and a nurse. Michaella gave a faint smile, greeting them.

"Good morning, Mrs. Allison."

Michaella nodded in response to the young doctor treating her. The doctor immediately examined her body and recorded something on a piece of paper. Araya continued to watch Michaella who was silent, hoping that the girl would ask the doctor something or make small talk but none of that happened. Michaella just was silent.

"You're better. You sprained your leg from the collision and your arm that was shot should be treated better. So, when did you get this gunshot wound?"

"The night before the accident."

The doctor nodded in understanding. "The arm has an infection even though it's been treated. Bleeding too much and the excessive shock you've experienced before is making you unconscious. I hope you get well soon and don't get hurt anymore."

Michaella stared at that the doctor in silence. Not answering or just nodding in response to the doctor's expectations. Michaella was only focused on the doctor's last words. get well soon and no longer hurt. Why is it so easy for people to say such things when they are not having bad luck? Michaella also hopes to have a better life and be able to get out of all the wounds she has endured, but that only makes her feel even more guilty.

Michaella took a deep breath and looked away. Staring at the empty ceiling of the room and thinking about what happened earlier. Always the unexpected happens. Lost all members of her family, received gunfire, and is now only lying in hospital. Her life has changed 180 degrees from before. Michaella is even confused about how else to try to accept her fate.

"Michaella."

Michaella looked back. Only Araya was left here and she didn't even notice that the doctor and nurse had left. She gave a faint smile.

"You're not hungry?"

Michaella shook her head.

Araya nodded in understanding. "Then let's eat some fruit. After all, you also have to fill your empty stomach."

Michaella didn't respond. Araya immediately peeled the apple for Michaella who looked away again. Filling her mind with previous events and continuing to guess what will happen after this. Michaella seemed not given time to just rest even when she was injured.

Araya offered a small apple slice, but Michaella ignored it. The girl put the apple slice back and then watched Michaella silently. Michaella's eyes had completely lost their shine. There is no good hope anymore, everything seems to just disappear. Araya felt sad to see her, but he also didn't know what else to do. Michaella deserves to be happy.

Araya tried her best to keep her tears from falling. She gripped Michaella's fingers until the girl realized and turned to her.

"Micha. Even though I know you are hurt by all this incident but my hope is still the same. You are happy again and enjoying a new life. I will always be by your side until that time comes even when the time is no longer with us. Do you want to do all that with me?"

Michaella stared at Araya in silence. It was clear that Araya was holding back her tears. Michaella smiled and rubbed Araya's head gently. "Happiness is never real, Aray."

Hearing this, Araya also looked at Michaella. Michaella's eyes turned calmer even though Araya also knew Michaella was hiding her wound.

"Even if you feel very happy, everything will suddenly disappear unexpectedly."

Araya was still staring intently at Michaella who was trying to express her current feelings.

"I knew everyone would leave me eventually, myself included."

"I will not leave you."

Michaella smiled. "I wish so too, but who knows the life to come? I can't even think about what my life will be like next. Your hopes and mine are still the same. We live a happy life without any more sadness. I thought it was just a reassuring word so as not to give up facing life because basically all is in vain. Happiness and suffering go hand in hand and always will."

Michaella turned to Araya again. "You can't trust anyone more than yourself, Aray. Humans always have the best side to show two faces in front of others."
