Chapter 17 - Chapter 17. Remorseful

After a delightful meal, Megan and Tammy went to the sofa in the living room where they chatted about various topics while indulging in their ice cream.

Tammy scooped another scoop of her ice cream and remarked, "You won't believe what happened today." Megan wondered what had happened.

"Timothy called."

"He also gave me a box of chocolates and a bouquet of flowers, along with a letter explaining his apology and pleading with me to give him another chance in my life and the lives of my child," Megan said, sighing.

"Are you for real?" Tammy asked, completely taken aback. Megan nodded while savoring her ice cream.

"So where the gifts are?" she couldn't remember seeing any flowers in the house, so she questioned.

"The gifts were subject to the restraining order, so he was not allowed to send any gifts to my home or office. I had my secretary returned them to him together with a letter reminding him that he needed to return the documents I sent to him by lunch."

Tammy was acting strangely so Megan enquired as to what was wrong "Are you alright?"

"Yes, I'm just taken aback by his little romantic behavior."

"That wasn't all," Megan added as she dipped into her ice cream.

"He visited me at work," She said.

"When he called me and he also told me you declined to meet him."

Megan gave a nod. "I did decline to see him. I thought he came to drop off the documents, but he didn't even bring anything. Rather, he asked to see me, so I instructed the receptionist to tell him that I can't meet or talk to him except through his attorney."

"So what did he call to you about?" Megan enquired Tammy.

"I was about to end the conversation when I realized it was him on the other end, but he begged me not to. He wants me to beg you to see him so that he can apologize and explain why he acted the way he did. He told me he was genuinely sorry for everything and that he wants to make it up to you. He sounded anxious and I could hear the regret in his voice. I almost did not believe it was Timothy White who spoke with me. He mentioned only his mom and best friend know about you and the baby. His mom talked some sense into him and made him swear not to give up on you."

"What comes next?" Tammy questioned her best friend.

Megan let out a breath. "I took a chance when preparing the parental rights agreements I delivered to him because if he had signed them, it would have meant that I was going to raise my child alone but now that he hasn't, there's no doubt that the documents made him come to his senses."

"I won't deny that I have feelings for him. I knew the gifts were from him even before I read the letter, and that gesture made me a little bit pleased, but Timothy White must be taught a lesson. Timothy cannot just approach me and expect me to forgive him like that. He harmed me deeply and has to work hard to win my trust. Without you who offered me a shoulder to depend on, I don't know how I would have survived it all."

"Did you agree to speak to me on his behalf? So, what was your response?" Megan questioned.

"I advised him not to involve me in the situation and to find a solution on his own." Megan then gave a nod.

"I have something for you that I hope would cheer you up. Enough with your baby daddy stuff."

Tammy stood up, walked over to Megan's guest room and set her already-empty ice cream cup down on a nearby table. She quickly returned carrying a shopping bag, which she gave to her best friend. As she reached for the contents in the bag, Megan grinned. A little pair of unisex sneakers was the first thing she found.

With her gaze fixed on the tiny pair of shoes, Megan remarked, "Awww Tammy, you're going to make me cry."

"Keep checking, there's still more in the bag."

When Megan reached for the other gifts in the shopping bag, she found a T-shirt for herself and a set of glass milk cups for infants. It was a white T-shirt with a black print 'Soon to be a mom.'

"Tammy, I honestly cannot imagine what I will do without you. Thank you," with a gleam of delighted tears in her eyes, Megan remarked.

"You've gone through a lot lately, and I wanted to cheer you up, so yeah! Mission accomplished. As much as I wanted to buy everything I saw in the store, I decided to limit myself to just these three things so as not to scare you away."

"Thanks, babe, I'll make sure to rock this T-Shirt quite soon," Megan said with a smile.

"So, do you want the child to be a boy or a girl?" Tammy inquired eagerly.

"Okay, you're already scaring me away ma'am," Megan responded and they both started laughing.

"I'm still in the acceptance phase, where I have to accept the reality that a little miracle is developing inside of me, so I haven't given it much thought. If I had to choose, I'd like to have a boy as my first child, but I think I'd be fine with any gender as long as he or she is healthy."

"Wow, Timothy White junior. Having a grandson will make Aunt Victoria very happy." Tammy taunted.

"He may have Timothy's appearance, but he will only inherit my character," Megan said.

"Whatever, but I really hope it's a girl," Tammy said with a smile.

The following day.....

Megan picked up her ringing phone as soon as she had done her morning prayers. When she recognized her mother's number from the caller ID, she grinned.

"Good morning, mom."

"Good morning, sweetie. Yesterday, you said you would return my call, but you didn't."

Megan grimaced. "I'm sorry, mom. I was distracted by other things."

"I hope you aren't working too hard yourself," Judy stated with concern in her voice. Since the day Megan confirmed her suspicions that she was truly pregnant, she has behaved in this manner.

"No, Mom, I'm not. Your grandchild and I come first in all I do."

"Good to hear that, my sweetie. Your Dad and I are flying to France tomorrow morning. I'm on my way to see a friend. From there, we will go shopping."

"Okay," Megan said unsure of what her parents were up to in France.

"We were invited to the wedding of the son of one of your dad's close friends."

"Cool, I won't tell you to have fun because I know you and Dad will have a great time."

"Sure, we will. So, any update from Timothy?" Judy asked which caused Megan to sigh.

"Mom, I'm sure your friend is waiting for you. We'll talk about Timothy when you get back from France. I take it you're only going for the wedding?"

"We won't be going right away after the wedding; instead, we'll remain back for a few days. Don't worry, I'll phone you occasionally and send you pictures. I forgot how stubborn my daughter could be and how excellent she was at shifting the subject."

Megan rolled her eyes, she had more photos of her parents from various outings and events than she did of herself.

"I love you, sweetie, take care of yourself and I'm expecting you'll be settled with Timothy by the time I get back."

"I love you too, mom, bye," Megan grinned.

Megan was almost about to set her phone on the nightstand when a new call came. Without even checking the caller ID, she answered the phone thinking it was her mother who had called again.

"Yes, Mom," she responded, rising from her bed.

"Megan, it's me," she heard a recognizable voice saying from the other side.

Megan wondered how he managed to get her number before realizing that he was a billionaire and he has his methods.

"Please, don't end the call, just give me a minute," Timothy begged.

"I'm sorry Megan, I'm truly sorry for everything. I've been nothing but a jerk to you, and I regret what I did. I really need to see you so I can make amends in person and explain why I acted the way I did. Everything about you gave me a new outlook on life, but I was so foolish and stubborn as to not recognize how unique you were compared to the other women I dated. I now know what people mean when they say that you don't realize how valuable something is until you've lost it. Please give me the chance to make it up to the two of you. I want to atone, I want to be in your life and the life of our baby Megan."

He was pleading, and Megan could hear the anxiety in his voice. She pictured him looking guilty and remorseful.

She didn't sure how to respond, so she cut off the phone as soon as his allotted minute was up.
