Chapter 18 - Chapter 18. Hopeful

Defeated, Timothy sat down on his bed and threw his phone to the side. He wished it would be simple to bring Megan back, but who was he kidding? Not after what he had made her endure.

He was glad he gave her a chance to say sorry before she cut the phone off. One of the times Timothy wished he had a superpower was at this very moment. He was interested in learning how she was doing and, more importantly, what was going through her mind.

Yesterday evening, Jacob returned to him with her home address and phone number. But yesterday night, he was too afraid to phone her. When he woke up this morning, he finally had the confidence to do so.

He concluded that Megan and his child were worth the effort, thus he wasn't planning on giving up anytime soon.

Megan was all put together in her professional outfit, matching shoes, and low ponytail. Her makeup was also applied. After grabbing her handbag, she left her room.

Tammy entered the room with a large arrangement of red roses with a white rose in the center and a small gift bag, saying, "I pray, I wish, and I hope that the rest of your mornings will be just like this."

As soon as Megan saw Tammy enter with the gifts, she sighed. She was aware that they were from Timothy without having to ask.

Megan lamented, "I instructed him not to send me anything anymore."

Tammy grinned as she gave Megan the roses, "I see him not giving up anytime soon ma'am."

"What am I going to do with this now?" she asked, her gaze fixed on the rose.

"Maybe I should..." she started to respond but Tammy cut her off.

"No!! You're never returning anything," Tammy forcefully exclaimed and there was no space for debate.

As Tammy handed her the present bag, Megan groaned and set the roses on the table.

Tammy smiled as Megan pulled a box of chocolates from the gift bag, saying, "I think Timothy is now conducting his research well, he is learning what you like most because these are your favorite chocolates."

Megan let out a sigh and reached for the other items in the bag. She found a jewelry box made of rose velvet.

"If this is pricey, I'll send it back," she told Tammy, who gave her a look in response.

When Megan opened the box, she discovered a diamond drop chain inside. 'I love Mommy' was inscribed on a matching bracelet that was included with the drop chain.

"Awwww, for the first time, I'm pleased with Timothy. This is so beautiful," Tammy giggled, admiring the necklace.

Megan said, "This is not fair. He is manipulating me and I don't like it," aware that the course of events might require her to extend her pardon more quickly.

"He is not trying to manipulate you rather, he has realized his mistakes and is making an effort to win you back by giving you these magnificent and priceless presents as restitution for your refusal to talk to him."

"Don't worry about the cost of things. I'm sure it won't matter to him," she said.

Megan discovered a handwritten message in the gift bag just as she had concluded that was all there was to it.

"Please accept this small token, they were purchased with love and I hope you like them. I'll always be thinking about you and our baby. I hope you find a place in your heart to forgive me. I'm willing to do whatever to be in your life and our baby's life. Please be careful always, Timothy." Megan was reading loudly.

"His handwriting was seductive. Please bring me a tissue. I never imagined Timothy to be this romantic," Tammy stated as she jokingly wiped away her tears.

Heaving a sigh, Megan said, "How the heck does he expect me to stay upset at him for long? He called to apologize to me this morning."

"He did?" Tammy questioned with a raised eyebrow. Megan gave a nod.

"So, what was your response to his apology?" Tammy enquired.

"I ended the call because I didn't know what to say to him after he apologized."

"I'm glad he's trying so hard to win you over, it shows how he feels about you," Tammy grinned.

"Life is too short to take things for granted, and you can forgive him sooner than you thought."

Megan raised an eyebrow at her best friend.

After shrugging, Tammy decided to change the topic. She said, "I made breakfast. Let's go eat before it gets cold."

After arranging the red roses in her flower vase and putting back the gifts Timothy had sent her, Megan went to the dining table to sit with Tammy.

As Timothy made his way back to his home, he suddenly felt incredibly delighted.

He was quite anxious the entire day. Every time his secretary or someone from his office knocked on his door, his heart would skip a beat. He was concerned that one of them could approach him carrying the gifts he had just sent to Megan.

Fortunately, she didn't send him a notification about the papers she sent him, nor did she return them. Additionally, he had asked his security if any deliveries had been made and happily, none had. Timothy felt relieved and hoped that problems between himself and Megan would finally be resolved.

After a quick shower in his room, Timothy changed into sweatpants but left his shirt off. After getting a bottle of wine from the bar in his living room, he returned to his room, sat down on his bed, and began working.

He decided to message Megan around halfway through as he grabbed for his phone on the nightstand.

"I hope you had a stress-free day. Just wanted to make sure you and our baby are doing well. You two mean the world to me. Feel free to contact me if you need anything. I hope you forgive me soon! Sleep tight. Timothy"

A call from Timothy's mother arrived as soon as he sent the text. As he responded, he grinned.

"Hi, mom."

"You sounded joyful, so I won't inquire how you're doing."

He scratched his head playfully and said, "Yeah, kind of."

"So I presume you've settled with Megan?" Victoria questioned from the other side.

As his mother spoke, Timothy could envision a smile on her face.

"Not exactly, but I'm still doing everything I can to make it up to her."

"I'm delighted if you are. I called because your Dad wants to talk to you."

Timothy groaned, "Dad? But mom, you swore to me."

"I'm sorry, I tried to keep it to myself but I couldn't hold myself so I had to tell your father," Victoria said with a giggle.

Timothy let out a sigh. He was positive that his father would give him a lengthy lecture.

"So how long were you intending on keeping this hidden from me?" Charles, Timothy's father, asked.

"Good evening, Dad. Before I tell you, I wanted to settle things with Megan first," Timothy explained.

"Your mom told me everything, and I'm incredibly upset about how you treated her."

Timothy used his free hand to rub his forehead. He was doing everything he could to make up for everything since he was disappointed in himself as well.

But I'm happy that she taught you a lesson and helped you realize that she wasn't who you thought she was.

"You have feelings for her, don't you? You want to be with her more than just because she's carrying your kid," Charles questioned.

"Yes, Dad, I really like her," he said.

"I wish you the best son, and I'm grateful that you made me a grandfather. Then, keep fighting for her despite everything."

Timothy grinned and said, "Thanks, Dad."

"Be sure you come over to the mansion during the weekend, I have some work-related things I want to settle with you," Charles said before handing the phone to his wife Victoria.

"I kind of hope you and Megan will be on good terms by next month so you can invite her to my birthday dinner," Victoria stated with anticipation.

"Mom, it's still a month and a few days before your birthday," Timothy complained.

"I know, just saying," Victoria laughed.

"I'm hoping Megan and I will get along by then and we'll fulfill your dream by coming to your celebration."

Before terminating the call, Timothy and his mother continued their conversation.

When there were no new messages on his phone, he was a little upset. By the time he finished speaking to his parents, he was kind of hoping Megan would have responded to his text. He would give her all the time she wanted, but he would never stop to win her.

Meanwhile...

When Megan's phone beeped to let her know she received a message, she was putting her hair up in a messy bun.

When she noticed it was from Timothy, her stomach slightly flipped as she reached for her phone on the bed. She had already stored his contact under the name "Timothy."

When Megan read his text, she could not resist the smile that spread across her face. The defenses she had built to keep him out were being slowly breached by him. Megan went to her bathroom to use some facial skincare items. After finishing, she looked in the mirror at herself and noted any changes. Other than the fact that her boobs were a little bigger, not much.

She grinned as she stroked her belly, which was still flat. She was already ecstatic about becoming a mother. "Do you want us to give him a chance? Daddy said we mean the world to him.
