Chapter 3 - Fiance?

Seph then went to the meeting room to see Baron Nicholas. He made sure he looked proper before walking inside. He said, "To what do I owe the pleasure of your presense?" He went to sit in his chair to start writing in a coded message that only he and his comrades used.

The Baron said, "You seem annoyed, did the Red Eagle bandits cause trouble again?" He would often hear about some issues about the various territories and the Red Eagle Bandits have been causing trouble between the borders.

Seph said, "We tracked them to a mountain range in the northeast. I will deal with them when I get a chance." They talked a bit about territory affairs until, a butler knocked and went in to report something which made Seph get up and said, "Ellie is doing what?"

Nicholas said, "What did my daughter do?" He got up to run after Seph to either save his daughter or see what he could do to mediate the situation.

A few minutes earlier, Fiona had gotten into a simple dress they had from Seph's mom. She had placed his coat on a chair and Tristan was trying to teach her some of the Auran language. She was even trying to teach him some of her language as she didn't think it would hurt.

She was in the process of telling him her word for an apple when a woman in an aristocratic dress came barging in. She looked at Tristan with a confused look and thought, 'she looks like a noble but, I thought that they were all about manners and honor.' She then signed to Tristan, "Why is she yelling at me?"

Ellie said, "Is this harlot ignoring me?! Dare to hug my fiancé in front of others, wear his coat and then not apologize to me. Even mocks me with those movements?!"

Tristan said, "Miss. Ellie, she doesn't know our language and that's how we have been communicating. As for the hug, it looked like how old friends meet each other; not anything romantic." He was a rather stoic man and slowly motioned for a butler to report what happened.

Fiona was trying to look for any sign to why she was being yelled at. She just stayed still until, she saw Ellie start to berate Tristan. She said, "Who asked you, a barbarous Onyxian. Why Seph keeps you around, I don't know."

Fiona frowned and got up from her chair and slapped Ellie as hard as she could. She spoke in her language while signing, "For someone who looks like a noble, your manners must've been eaten by dogs." As someone who was good friends with a great Grifter and thief in her last life, she learned a lot about body language and micro-expressions; she could tell that the girl was being too aggressive and sometimes a good slap to put her in her place.

When Ellie moved to slap her back, she saw Seph coming and started to do the, 'she's bullying me' shtick to get sympathy points but, Seph walked past and asked, "What happened?" He moved to check if she was injured.

Tristan said, "Sir, me and the Lady was in the process of teaching each other..."

Ellie interrupted, "The two were doing something inappropriate as the door was closed."

He glanced and saw some loose papers with a picture and two different styles of words on the desk. Tristan said, "Words, we were learning each others languages and writing styles. As I said earlier, Miss. Ellie, she doesn't know our language or culture. So, I thought teaching her some simple words would help. She must've thought the same as she told me the words from her language as well as to how to write them.

Miss. Ellie had barged into the room and insulted her for giving you a hug. I tried to explain and keep Ma'am's honor but, Miss. Ellie started to insult my background and Ma'am slapped her. Then signed something that looked like Miss. Ellie bite by dogs. I couldn't catch it all."

Seph looked at Fiona and asked, "Did you say that she was bitten by dogs?" He could understand most of what happened but, raised an eyebrow at the last part.

Fiona said, "That last part was lost in translation. What I said was that 'for someone that dressed like a noble, her manners must've been eaten by a dog.' I kind of dislike people who insult people who are willing to use their lives to protect a person's safety and freedom. It looked like she was doing so, I kind of slapped her without thinking. I also couldn't remember how to say manners so, I may've also screwed up."

Ellie said, "I will apologize for barging in but, she insulted a barons family. She has to apologize as well." Seph had been quiet for a while which, had Ellie think he was on her side.

Fiona and the others felt the air was getting stagnant which, wasn't a good sign. She slowly walked behind him and embraced him from behind as the other rubberneckers slowly backed away.

He put a hand on her hands and the air slowly went back to normal. The Baron was able to get here gasping for air and what he saw scared him. He saw an illusion of a Jade Eagle was ready to attack his daughter but, it was held back by a beautiful woman. He heard the woman speaking in an unknown language that seemed to calm Seph down.

Seph said as an order, "Escort Miss. Cahill off my property...she is no longer allowed to enter. I think this will be a good compromise for both parties, Baron Nicholas."

The Baron said, "Yes, it will be best to leave until, a better solution ran be resolved." He then took his complaining daughter back to his territory while, listening to the report of what she did.

Seph then dismissed the servants and he showed more of a gentle expression after everyone left, "Lady Fiona, are you sure that's what you wanted?"

Fiona let go of him and moved to sit on the bed while, lightly pulling him over. She said, "I don't want to get you in trouble because of what a spoiled brat said. Especially when, I don't even know what she said or whatever misunderstanding she had, it's not worth it."

He said, "I have already sworn my loyalty to you, If that means going after a little Baron I would. However, you are right...I did over react but, I don't like anyone insulting you. You are the goddess I and the others believe in."

She thought, 'I don't deserve that title, I...I don't have a divinity; I don't have access to the dao. I can't fight or ask my friends advice on how to help you...I was just a disabled woman who was bored when I wasn't doing paperwork.'

She said, "Sylph, I'm not a goddess...not a member of a pantheon...I am just a mortal. I can't exactly call my friends for advice or help."

She froze as she saw a screen pop up which had a few tabs, "Or...I got a gift from them before I came."
