Hannah dropped her glass on top of the white carpet in that living room as Dean pointed his Glock 17 at the head of the woman. The woman couldn't grab her phone or Dean would immediately shoot her. Dean instilled fear in Hannah's mind, knowing that this would be the only way he could get the truth.
"You… are not his friend, aren't you?" Hannah was still shuddering from the constant fear coming from the end of Dean's gun barrel.
"Let's just say, I'm not," Dean answered.
"Oh god, you're here to kill me, aren't you?" Hannah asked Dean.
So it was true, someone did threaten Hannah from saying anything that would put Mick on the court. Well, if this was the case, then Dean's approach was the most effective way of getting testimony from Hannah.
"Perhaps, but I'm not with your master," Dean added.
"You're not working for master Harsen?" Hannah asked.
"No, I'm not working with master Harsen, but I do work with a particular friend of ours. So, I want you to speak what you know, or well," Dean stared at his pistol. "We know how it will end."
"Fine, what do you want?" Hannah asked.
"Still the same question, where did he go that night? Is he gone, or are you also not aware of that? Because if you are not, then," Dean aimed his pistol at her head, "You are useless to me."
"Wait, wait, wait, but you promised that you are not working for him, right?" Hannah begged for her life as her eyes turned glossy.
"Am I not clear enough?" Dean asked.
"Fine, he's gone at that night," Hannah finally told Dean the truth.
"Where?" Dean asked.
"Carparius office tower, he said he wanted to meet an old friend. I was the one that drove him there, that's it, I don't know anything," Hannah said.
"THEN WHY ARE YOU NOT TELLING THEM THE TRUTH?" Dean became enraged, knowing that he was the victim of the assassination.
"I CAN'T! I just can't."
"Why?" Dean asked as he shouted.
"Bastard got my son, I can't do anything. What am I supposed to do, tell you and risking my son's safety?" Hannah said.
"Since when you are working with Mick?" Dean wondered.
"Ever since he is little, but ever since last month, he had been putting blackmails on every servant on his apartment. Sorry, if you want me to testify, I can't."
Dean now felt this problem became much more complex than he initially thought. He thought he could scare Hannah into submission and make him testify for him. However, with the new concern, this became much harder to achieve.
Sure, Dean wanted to get his justice and put Mick in the slammer, but if it meant he would have to kill someone's son, he wouldn't do that. First of all, he needed to find Hannah's son before he would be able to get Hannah to testify.
He also didn't know whether Mick kidnapped more people or not. Orion did tell him once that Mick was a wealthy family with a lot of resources left and right. Mick might have a share of that power so he could kidnap anyone that he wanted.
It gave him a sense of deep concern now. On one side, he could do something for this one woman. At another, he would put himself in graver danger than before if he attempted to rescue Hannah's child. It only produced one question for himself.
'How hard will you fight for the truth?'
He had the gear to do so. Dean also had the capability of launching a solo assault on any civilian target, and it was not like Dean hadn't faced far worse odds. He had heavy body armor and heavy weapons. It would be vigilantism for Hannah's son.
"Say, I brought your son, will you testify for me?" Dean asked.
"Anything, I'll give you anything, I promise," Hannah replied.
"Well, Hannah, it looks like we have one common enemy. Help me, and I'll help you, alright? Where do you usually meet your son?" Dean asked, looking for more intel.
"I usually meet him at the mainland," Hannah replied.
"Mainland where? Are you asking me to search 20 million square kilometers for a single boy? You nuts," Dean protested.
"Carter, Illinois. Their safe house is on the middle 4942 Country road, a beige country house. There's where they kept my son, what are you going to do? I can't call the cops," Hannah asked.
Dean sighed of relief as he heard the location. At the very least, it wasn't Maine. If it was Maine, then he might have to face more Menkaids than he initially thought. There was no doubt that the house would be guarded. Moreover, the kid might need a safe place to be until Hannah could escape.
It also required Dean some time in preparation as well. It was not like he could do a rescue operation without any scouting whatsoever and without any backup plan. One of the main concerns of the rescue operation was whether he could rescue the kid before the kidnappers killed him.
A military Miniature Aerial Vehicle(MAV) should be able to do a basic reconnaissance on the interior of the building using its advanced recon camera that could penetrate a basic civilian structure. Dean had two in his bunker, but it might be more cost-effective to borrow one from the Peacekeeper.
"Do you anywhere to stay if I rescue your son? I meant, Mick won't stand still if I do that," Dean added.
"That's also my concern, to be honest. Do you have any idea?" Hannah asked.
Dean could put them in his bunker up north, but it would be way too overkill for just protecting these two. Even a basic military safe house would more than suffice. He might need to consult Adams first for the next move.
"I think you can stay in a military safe house or something, putting you on a witness protection, but you have to be willing to testify alongside your son," Dean said.
"So, what's the plan, if I may ask?" Hannah said.
"I'll tell you once I know. Right now, we wait, because truthfully, I'm the victim here," Dean said.
"Huh? How so?"
Dean opened his jacket and he showed his bandaged chest to Hannah. Hannah immediately gasped and closed her mouth with his hand. Dean wore his jacket again and he put his pistol back into its holster.
"Yeah. Mick's responsible for this, and I'm putting him on trial, but now, I need evidence, and testimony will be the best option," Dean answered.
Hannah sipped on the alcohol, "Alright, we have a deal. You get your testimony, I get my son back, is that good enough for you?"
"Good enough for me, and one more thing, would you kindly keep this conversation between us two, because I'm your only hope of getting your son back for now," Dean gave Hannah an offer.
"Sure, I'll tell no one about our fated meeting," Hannah said.
"Thanks for the assistance, Hannah. I really appreciate it," Dean said.
"Yeah, sure. Anything else?" Hannah asked.
"I guess that's all. Thanks for giving me a chance, I appreciate it. I'll visit again if I have formed something," Dean stood up from the living room and Hannah shook his hand, thanking him for the offer. She promised to keep her mouth shut.
Dean appreciated it, but it was not like Hannah would be able to describe anything about Dean. His face gaiter basically covered his entire face and he also never mentioned his name even once in front of Hannah. He only said that he was Mick's friend and that was it.
Dean left the house and walked towards the nearest bus station after that visit. The clock showed that it was 04:00 A.M. in the morning. It was better for him to steal some sleep on the bus before he went back to the room and got himself a cup of coffee or he would be as sleepy as hell in the classroom.
