Chapter 18 - IE18: Elissia Hestia - III

A stray greater beetle neared the area where I am being surrounded. It caught the others attention due to the rarity of greater beetles. It would be a nice chance to escape but some are still locking their eyes to me. My only choices is to clear as many as I can in a short period of time while the others are still distracted.

"Finish it already! They have decent amount of life and mana essence." One of the assassins shouted and another one stepped close to the unmoving greater beetle. The man smirked and earth gauntlets covered his hands. He struck down towards the creature's she'll. Instead of hearing the sound of its exoskeleton break, the cry of the man resounded gaining everyone's attention even me.

The man who attack the greater beetle was set in scorcrhing wild flame instantly. And the flame seems to eat away the body of the man at a fast pace. In just mere 10 seconds, the man already stopped crying in pain and flopped down to the ground still burning. The others moved to and countless magic circle appeared in front of them.' They will shoot a barrage of long range attacks towards the beetle!'

The other assassins keeping an eye on me roared as I dash away from them. I reappeared in front of the beetle and conjured an ice wall on time blocking the countless magical projectiles. Why do I feel like I need to help this guy? I'm in a pinch too. It's just that my body instantly act on its own and now I'm in front of the creature. I looked back and saw it staring at me. I can't tell what expression it wears with it's insect face.

In the side of the wall, an assassin appeared and charge towards both of us. He was taken aback as I lunged myself forward to him instead. He changed his offensive stance into a defensive one. He was bewildered and don't know what to do as I'm only pointing my hands towards him. At the last second. He decided to slash vertically but before he could even swung down his sword, an ice Lance materialised in front of my hand instantly piercing the assassin's chest. I willed the Lance to pin the poor assassin in the leaning tree behind me. Another metallic sound slicing the air assaulted my sense of hearing and I have no time to face it and block. I just covered my back with thick layer of ice and hope that the sword won't pierce it but the anticipated blow never came.

I looked back slowly and saw the horrified expression of the assassin. He was staring at me with unbelieving eyes. Blood gushed out of his mouth and now I realised that he was skewered by the greater beetle's two pointed trunk. One on his neck and the other in his side. The man then combusted in flame, the same flame that eats away the first assassin who attacked the beetle.

The creature shrugged the burning corpse away of its trunk. 'Did he just save me?' I stared at him with complex thought but a telepathic message entered my mind. 'Behind the ice wall.'

My body move on its own and my hands facing the ice wall. I shattered it and quickly turned the ice shards into sharp cone-shaped ice. As the wall cleared when I turned it into small projectiles, I got better view of a giant figure whose about to swing his hammer horizontally on the supposed to be ice wall. He too was wearing a shocked expression at the sudden changes. But he has no time to react as I launched the projectiles towards him with force. He instantly became a porcupine as countless blue spikes pierced his giant figure. The amount of holes made by my projectiles created countless wounds and blood gushed out of his body rapidly.

I stared back once again at the greater beetle but he was already charging towards the other assassins with his whole body covered in flame. The assassins was afraid to attack it's weak spot because they might turn into fiery corpse like the others and had one only choice but to run away from the path he was charging. He skewered 2 assassins successfully and throw they're burning corpse out of its trunk. It made a turned to make a new path where he can charge.

Some assassins even run away from the creature like a coward. Even Kindrath came back and commanded the rest to shoot projectiles towards the creature. I didn't choose to stand idly and watch the events happening, I took it as a chance. I readied my sword and Shields and assaulted those on the outside of their ruined formation one by one. After few seconds, I already killed 5 assassins.

I glance towards the creature and saw countless metal and earthen spears and spikes protruding from his back. 'They're attacks works, the flame cannot protect him!'

I willed half of my remaining mana and conjured countless long ice needles swirling around me. The sword and shield vanish as I rushed toward their remaining groups. Every swing of my hands, my needles launched towards enemies. Some was unfortunate to be hit in their critical spots which hastened their death but some manage to block it with their magic Shields and barriers.

Kindrath shouted for the rest to regroup. They all flocked and created a defensive row with their remaining numbers of above 20 assassins. Arcane magical barriers and elemental shield was conjured and from the back was long ranged attacks being fortified and improve to pierced deeply on the greater beetle's body.

The charging beetle stopped it's track beside me and it flames extinguished.

'Work together.' The beetle conveyed to me again. I don't know what is the creature's intention of helping me but I had no choice. I hopped on top of his back and made the ice needles to surround us rapidly creating a deadly cyclone effect.

The enemy stared fearful at the sight but kindrath shouted at them to hold their position.

The greater beetle moved again and charge toward their already useless defensive line. They won't be able to block my ice needles as it moves around us and will hit them from the sides. There's also the charging beetle with his deadly trunk. We get closed to them but Kindrath still insisted that they will be able to block our attacks. I don't know if he's dumb or just underestimating both of us too much.

Our duo crashed towards their formation. 3 assassins took the full damage of the beetle's trunk and some was blown away with needles embedded in their bodies creating a bloody hole. Many of them died and some suffered from the ice needles. The last one standing was Kindrath. He managed to shield himself with earth wall but ice needles can be seen on his shoulders and legs. He stared at me with hatred. He was about to open his mouth to shout or say something but I didn't waste more time and pierce him with the remaining ice needles. Around 15 needles find their way on his body and quickly giving him death. Because of it, the stolen mana from me came back.

"It worked very well but I didn't told you to ride on top of me."
