Chereads / Help!: I Think My System Is Trying To Kill Me! / Chapter 3 - First Battle Of Wits

Chapter 3 - First Battle Of Wits

~Rustle. Rustle. Rustle.~

The sounds of intruders approaching his thatched hut were very jarring to Wolfram's ears.

F***!

'System! Do you expect me to fight them like this? Look at me! Do you know that if I fight against a mere frog now, the frog would not only beat me up but also dance around my body by a fireside?!'

[Host. I'm glad you know how useless you are. Can't you do such a simple task? You're no longer suffering from any injuries, thanks to this daddy. So what are you complaining about? Come on… Come on, host! This system has a strong feeling about you. So this system will be rooting for you. ]

Good Feeling your head!

Wolfram inwardly cursed, almost fainting from anger.

Now he knew why the System's previous host's all died.

What sort of creepy encouragement was this?

Go? Jump into the fire outside?

Dear Lord!

The system was insane!

'Grandma, grandpa… your son misses you so much.'

It looks like until he could take himself out of his predicament and become ruler of the territory, or he won't be able to get any benefits from this crazy system at all!

But wait.

Wasn't there something the system had missed?

Suddenly, Wolfram's eyes lit up.

'System. You can't fool me! Based on basic Transmigration 101, where's my starter pack?'

[Starter pack?...~Pfff!]

The system began to giggler very maniacally.

[Bahahahaha~... Host. Host please… you're too much… Bahahaha~... I never knew you were this funny! Looking at our situation, do you still dare to ask for a starter pack? This daddy has taken care of your injuries, so isn't that more useful than any starter pack?]

NO! Not Really!

Wolfram inwardly protested.

Why did his system sound like a con artist?

He didn't have any evidence, but he felt it was lying to him.

Dammit!

Wolfram knew he was now on his own. If he could survive this matter, then his future would be bright.

Right, man in heaven?

[The Heavens]:... Don't look at us, we know nothing.

(v_v)

.

Outside the hut, the noise was getting closer and closer until Wolfram began hearing their faint mumblings.

"All clear…That pesky Ivo isn't here to watch over the brat. The little trash has been asleep for 2 days with no signs of waking up. Sowe have to act without leaving evidence."

"Yeah. With Ivo out of the way, the boy's fate is sealed! And soon, the boss will be able to take his place as village Chief!" said one of the men, flashing a cruel smile amidst his crooked teeth.

Ivo?

Maybe because they thought he wouldn't wake up, they clumsily raised their voices while creeping towards his hut.

Wolfram struggled to get to his feet, feeling the sudden dizziness from his body.

He had been lying down for too long, and now his body was in disarray.

As for the Ivo fellow they heatedly mentioned, he was someone extremely loyal to Wolfram's deceased father.

Wolfram ran through his memories, making conclusions about Ivo's situation tonight.

'Tsk. It looks like Ivo might have been intentionally delayed while doing his village duties. And now, these bastards were trying to take advantage of this to finish me off!'

He thought, pulling his attention back on counterattacking.

'Mortal strength (6/20)?... I'm still too weak to fight them head-on. And judging from their tone and their confidence, they might be skilled hunters under that bastard uncle of mine. So their strengths should be above 13/20. In that case, fighting them head-on will be suicide!'

An even thicker layer of sweat formed across his already damp face.

Alright.

There was no other way around this except for doing the unspeakable.

Alas…

Wolfram sighed while imagining his prestige going down after tonight's uncanny display.

Well, here goes nothing.

'Testing… Testing… 1, 2, 3….'

[...]

Erm… Was its host defective?

.

Wolfram twisted his neck while tapping his throat, adjusting his voice's pitch to a satisfactory level.

And the system, who was watching with its non-existent popcorn, was even more confused by its host's operation.

[Host. What are you doing?]

'Nothing. Since you've decided not to help me, then what does it matter to you?'

[....]

[Pff~...Host, are you angry with this daddy?]

Wolfram rolled his eyes heavenwards and decided to ignore the system.

Angry was an UNDERSTATEMENT!

He tapped his throat and coughed, letting out a soft cough, making sure that the intruders hadn't heard a thing.

1... 2... 3…

Wolfram nodded in satisfaction.

And soon, he began his shameful descent.

"Assassin! Assassins! You! You! What do you want? Leave this place immediately! Help! Help! ASSASSINS! Ah~~~~."

[...]

Like a cold wind, his shrill voice echoed across the land, causing even those some distance away to hear his screams.

Oh my heavens!

What sort of pain did the screaming person feel?

Terrible! Terrible!

Many already felt their bodies turn into fish mucus, very wobbly and squishy.

And this from the reaction from afar.

What? Assassins?

The intruders outside his hut suddenly froze in shock after hearing the spine-chilling chaos inside.

Bam! Pah! Boom!

"Ah~~`"

The sounds of things falling, breaking, and countless other noises made them soft.

By the sun of Kha! Did they just listen in on an intense battle involving 2 or 3 people inside?

Instantly, their legs and knees buckled in fear the further they crawled away from the hut.

Mommy, mommy, just what sort of evil did this Wolf boy do to have such bad luck?

(:TwT:)

One should know that even though they seemed powerful to Wolfram, they were just ordinary, peasant, mortal hunters.

The strong people of this world were the warriors, Paladins, and all the like.

So their puny strength was nothing in comparison to the real deal.

"It's… it's really an assassin… This… This… Brother Big tooth! What do we do?" One of them asked, crawling away in a daze.

And their gang leader, the one with the big beaver teeth, was even more anxious, and they were.

"F***! Are you still asking me?!"

The entire village should have heard the screams in person or should've heard about it from passerbys.

So very shortly, several villagers should be coming over.

"Quick! Let's get out of here before they catch us and tie us together with the assassin matter."

"Right, Brother Big Tooth!"

With that, the frightened group made for the hills, running and falling while also looking back.

That is, what if the assassin notices and tries to kill them off when fleeing?

Boss… Boss…

They had to report this matter to the boss!
