"Do you know that there's a new cafe just outside the Uni?"
"Yes! I was told their macchiato is the best!"
"How about we go check it out now?"
"Sure!"
I look at them discreetly as I leaned comfortably onto the chair's back support. Gah, So lively. I would love to join, but I doubt that they'll invite me. And just when I am craving for some Choco Latte, maybe I should check the new cafe out on my way home. I placed my head on the table and stare at the new student's head. Is his neck alright? He's been like that ever since the professor left.
"Azazel, Do you want to come to the new cafe after school?" Vera said after poking the transferee.
So his name is Azazel. What a unique name, I wished I was named better. I mean my name is demonic, maybe that's why my life's been so fucked up, haha.
He moved a little before getting up. He looked at me before glancing at the girl standing in front of him.
"I don't have the time." He said in a monotone voice. Vera bit her lower lip showing a disappointed look on her face.
"I-Is that so? Then how about t-tomorrow?" She said, urging him to give in to her offer. Girl, save yourself and stand back.
He literally looked like he's about to punch you or something, take a hint! His eyebrows are almost touching each other. Do you not know about the basic body language?
"I really don't have the time, I also don't like eating sweets." See? She should try reading the room and the atmosphere.
Her lips quivered as she tried to talk, her embarrassed face is a little bit flustered.
"The-Then, how about joining us on karaoke? It's fun, you should try it." Vera, you are digging your own grave. She definitely had a crush on the new guy, well I wouldn't be surprised. He is handsome, I couldn't disagree.
"I don't have the time for this, it's boring. Can you stop bothering me?" He said, eyebrows furrowed. He definitely is annoyed, man chill.
"I-" He cut off her words with a gesture before brushing his hair upwards.
"Instead of inviting me, why don't you ask that girl to join you." He said pointing his left thumb on my direction.
I raised an eyebrow at them. Whoa! whoa!whoa! am I a scapegoat? I would love to, but I knew they wouldn't. Vera looked at me indifferently and asked me out of courtesy.
"Lilith, would you like to join?" There is an evident hesitance in her voice. Who is she kidding? That would be a miracle if someone invited me out of willingness.
"Hey! I would love to, unfortunately I am still in the process of grieving. I can't enjoy a cup of steaming choco latte while reminiscing my deceased grandma, can I?" I said smiling. Her face distorted as she turned her back on us without saying a single word.
"My, I was joking. I didn't know she'd bite it the first try. What a waste." I said while looking at her leaving figure.
"That's a strange joke if you'd ask me." I raised my eyebrows at my right when I heard his words.
"Really? how strange? I don't think my jokes are strange at all." I faced him with a frowned. He looked at me meaningfully before standing up to leave.
"Goodbye."
My eyes widened at him, he said goodbye! I don't know if it's accepted as a greeting but I stood up and run after his leaving figure.
"Hey!" I shouted out loud, he stopped and looked back at me with a bored look.
"What do you want?" He said in his monotone voice. I waved my hand goodbye.
"Goodbye!" I shouted in a whispering tone as if I didn't shout an ear-piercing 'Hey!' in the hallway. He rolled his eyes up before walking away. I don't mind though.
---
"Thanks for these fried chickens, uncle!" I said before munching on it as I walk away from the stall.
The surrounding is bright because of the full moon, there's a lot of constellations that I can see with my naked eye. Among them, my favorite one is Cancer. Even though it's barely visible because it doesn't have those bright stars other constellations have, its still there. Waiting for someone to notice its almost hidden beauty.
I sighed, I know it's not good to be emotional or depressed but I can't helped it. To be honest after my grandma's death, sleep's been so hard to do. I can't seem to sleep even if I wanted to. Even sleeping pills can't help me in my situation. I can't stay longer on our house. It reminds me of my grandma a lot, it keeps making me feel... alone and lonely. And I just knew that if I stayed much longer there, I would be insane or just die out of loneliness. Not too long ago, it's a very lively home and now...
"Gah, life's been throwing me a lot of lemons lately. Give me a breaaakkkkkk." I said to myself weakly before I continued walking.
In the end, it's me, myself and I again. It's like me versus the world, I felt like giving up sometimes, you know just drop dead on the ground or something, but I knew my grandma will disown me if I do.
I slapped my left cheek trying to brush off that strange feeling of wanting to give up and die. Come on, the night's so beautiful for those dark thoughts.
It's been a week since her death, and taking midnight strolls became a way for me to try coping up from the unbearable sadness. What I am doing is just walking around our neighborhood's streets, sitting on random parks and laying on some random people's backyards until I get tired to fall asleep instantly. At least it's better than hurting myself.
I was munching the last piece of Uncle's delicious fried chicken while crossing the pedestrian when a rushing car almost hit me. Gah! Unfortunately it was stopped I thought I would die, sadly my guardian angel seems to be so strong.
An enraged voice was heard as soon as the car's window rolled down.
"Goddamn it! Do you want to die?" My ears rang after he spoke those words. What the hell? WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL?! I need to calm down.
"Excuse me? I am stepping on these white lines also called as the pedestrian line. My, the audacity of you to tell me that." I said, eyebrows almost touching each other. He opened the car door and started pointing his index finger onto me.
"What?! Do you want to get hit?! Where are your manners?! How dare you talk back to an adult! God! Kids these days!" He shouted at my face.
"Actually, I'm nineteen years old so I'm basically an adult." I explained.
"What?! This kid--!" He raised his palm and acted as if he is about to slap me.
"Bastard, I wouldn't be surprised if the person who raised you is also a bastard. No respect for the adults. I bet your mother regretted the moment you were born." I gritted my teeth hearing those words. How dare he insult my grandma for raising me. How dare he say that my mother regretted I was born? I clenched my fists as I opened my lips to speak.
"I'm sorry for this rudeness but... Fuck you, Mister." I said as I throw the fried chicken at his face.
"How dare you!" His flustered face showed a very angered expression. Yes! be angry! I stuck my tongue out at him before running. I heard him cursed before running after me. Damn!
"Gah, where to?" I murmured as I tried to choose where to hide. Hmm. Yes! That's it! The abandoned black house on the last street.
"You're dead if I caught you!" I flinch as I heard his very angry voice, I tried to pick up my pace and jumped on to the gate.
"Urgghh..."
My eyes widened when I somewhat landed on a person and on top of that, a very familiar person.
"What the--" I leaned in and placed my hands on his mouth to shut him up.
"Shh!" I shushed, he was about to push me away when I tightened my grip on his mouth. I looked at his face and noticed how his eyebrows almost touching each other.
"Where did that wretched bitch go?!" The uncle that's been chasing me cursed as he run straight to the next neighborhood. I waited for about three minutes before I released a sigh out of relief when I can't hear his footsteps anymore.
I felt a gentle tap at the back of my hands and that's when I remembered that I am not alone. I looked at him apologetically as I removed my hands away from his mouth. I got up and helped him to stand.
" Haa... What the hell was that?" He said while wiping his mouth, a hint of annoyance is visible on his face.
" We-Well, that was-- I'm sorry. Does your back hurts?" I said trying to changed the subject. He glared at me, obviously he won't buy that.
"Don't change the subject, why the hell are you running away from a man in the middle of the night and why did you recklessly barged in, on a private property." He inquire with a serious look on his face. I scratched the back of my head as I think of an alibi.
"Explain the details before I call the cops. " He won't really call the cops right?
"Uhh, I was just jogging?" That's the most obvious lie, Lilith you are digging your own grave. He started to pull his phone out of his pocket and that made me panic.
"No! Please I'll explain the details." I said holding his hands. He looked at me intently as if digging answers from my soul. When he was satisfied, he put his phone back on his pocket and brushed his hair up.
"Explain." He said sternly.
I laughed nervously. Its going to be a long night.
