Chapter 6 - First Class

Richard and Joshua prepared the food. It was a primitive world regarding technology, so they built up a campfire outside to cook the meat. But before that, Richard showed Joshua how to take out the pelt of a beast, as well as cutting the nerves to get only the best meat.

'Strangely this doesn't make me pass out. Thinking of now, even when I was cutting the beast of fighting the bandits' nothing seemed to affect me. If it was the old me I would probably freak out, so this has to have something to do with my divine-like powers.'

Joshua watched Richard to all of those things carefully, as it would probably be of great use once he was alone in this world. Aurora was meditating near a tree, so Joshua took the chance to ask some things he had in mind, and hopefully, Richard could answer them.

"So, Richard. I know it's strange to ask, but why didn't I receive experience points after killing the Rhakun?" that was the first doubt Joshua had in mind.

"It's because you don't have a class yet. One can only start to level up and become stronger after getting your initial class."

"But how can I get a class without leveling up?" Joshua asked, and Richard quickly answered, as if he was waiting for that question to pop up.

"With training. Take Aurora for example. She wants to go to the magic academy to train, and unlock her class. Mages train in different ways, with meditation, utilizing your mana to simple things, and other things. Sorry, I'm not an expert when it comes to magic. Anyway, we are different. The way you can unlock the Knight class is by training your body. Once you get stronger, and more fit, your attributes will increase by a small amount, and eventually you'll unlock the class."

Joshua got the essence of it. It was like preparing your body to eventually get into the next step. He took the chance to get more information about the world, as he didn't know when he would get that chance again.

"I think I get that. Another doubt of mine, why can't I see your level or your Health Points?" Joshua assumed he couldn't see because the level difference was too high, but the other bandits or the Rhakun were near his level, and yet he couldn't see their HP.

"It is also because you don't have a class. Once you get your first class, you'll unlock the basic scouting skill, which will allow you to see the Health Points of people and creatures that are up to 5 levels above you. Once you improve that skill, you can also see some other information about them, and also increase the level cap, so you could see information up to 10 levels higher than you, for example." Richard gave a lot of info, which surprised Joshua. Well, it seemed that it was all basic information, and most people knew about that.

"About the class, arent better classes out there? Or everyone is either only a Knight, Mage, or Rogue."

"There is. Take me for example. It only shows to you that I'm a Knight, right? But my class is actually an evolution of the Knight, but it doesn't show to you because your level difference is too high, and also because I'm using a special technique to hide some of my info."

That information was quite useful to Joshua. Now he knew that there were some awesome special classes out there to get, and it also meant that some people had special ways to hide their information, so following blindly what one saw was stupid.

Their chitchat ended, and the scent of the meat woke up Aurora from her meditation. She was hungry since the moment they arrived, and yet she still had to wait for them to cook, which was daunting. Richard had a wooden table and two benches outside of his house. He enjoyed eating there, so that's where the trio sat. Aurora asked Joshua about his hunting trip with her dad, and he said it was great, never mentioning when her father threw his ass to fight the beast.

They talked more about some mundane stuff, and Joshua got some information about the place he was in, as well as about the country. They were in a nameless village, far from the capital, where Aurora wanted to go. The capital was called Andromeda and stood in the middle of the country. Joshua understood that if he wanted to go there, their journey wouldn't be so easy.

'Aurora wants to go there to get her class, which means she will travel being level 1, so I'm guessing that Richard will travel with her. There's also the fact that one needs a letter of recommendation to enter the magic academy, and I'm pretty sure Richard has enough power to get that for her.'

Joshua and Richard only trained in the mourning, so after eating he decided to use the afternoon to slowly build his house. He didn't know how long it would take for them to travel to the capital. Aurora gave him some hints that it would still take some time for that to happen, so he would first settle in, build his house, and train like a madman to get stronger. Joshua had one goal in mind, to get the Knight class, and get at least level 5 before leaving. Level 5 wasn't far from high, but it was enough for them to travel, and Richard would still be with them so no worries.

There were some useful books inside Richard's private library, so Joshua took a few of them. One had information about beasts, two had common knowledge about the world, the country, geography, and these sort of things. The last one Joshua took out of curiosity. It had information about some of the professions in this world, like blacksmithing, enchanter, and alchemist. These got his attention as they were always useful back in the RPGs he played.

'I don't know if it will be useful in this world but whatever. If I master one of those I'll sure be able to get some money, which is rather good.'

He also grabbed some basic tools and left to build his house. At first, it was only a small tent, one could barely live there, but as the days passed, Joshua managed to build a small wooden cabin near that waterfall, and he was pleased.

At mourning, he would train with Richard. In the afternoon he would improve his house and read the books he got from Richard, and at night, he would chat with Aurora. The trio got closer and closer as the days passed, and eventually the day Joshua was waiting arrived.

[Knight class unlocked.]
