Chereads / My Goalkeeping System / Chapter 18 - Faster Than Expected

Chapter 18 - Faster Than Expected

Dave got home just a little early into the evening to discover that Emma wasn't back yet which was good for him because he had some things to sort out before she came back and became a distraction to him.

He had been thinking about what Catherine told him while he was driving home and buying gym equipment was something he had never really thought about.

He walked to the couch in the living room, slowly sat on it, and brought his phone to dial a number.

"Hello, Clark." He said after placing the phone against his ear.

"Oh, hi Dave, how're you doing?" Clark's voice resounded through the phone's speaker.

"I'm okay, Ummm… Clark, how much would it cost to get gym equipment?" He asked.

"Are we talking full gym equipment or just some of them?" Clark asked.

"No, not all of them," Dave said. "I need a treadmill, some lightweight lifts, and the other equipment that goalkeepers need," Dave said.

"Okay, I don't exactly know their prices but let me do a little research and get back to you," Clark said.

"Okay take your time," Dave said before ending the call.

Clark Munrow was Dave's agent but he wasn't only his agent, he was also his friend so he was always open to helping him out with other things.

Dave picked up the remote and turned on the television to watch the highlights from the New City United vs Spree United match.

He was aware that Spree United had won by two goals to nothing but he still needed to see the best moments of the match and how the goals went in.

As soon as the highlights had begun, the door opened for Emma to walk into the house holding a small plastic bag with her handbag hanging over her shoulder.

She was putting on a black female singlet, a dark pink jacket, and a pair of black trousers, she also had white sneakers to go with that and had her hair loose.

"Where the heck did you go dressed like that?" Dave asked, looking at her.

"What? Is anything wrong with my dressing?" She said checking herself.

"No, no, no, you look okay," Dave said.

"Then what's up with the voice?" Emma asked, moving closer to him.

"Nothing, I'm just wondering where you went looking this stunning," Dave said.

"I told you I was going to see my friends," Emma said, sitting beside him.

"Oh yeah, I forgot," Dave said with a cheeky smile.

"Well it's nothing to worry about but just try and forget my birthday or our anniversary and you won't hear the end of it," Emma said with a threatening voice.

"I know and that's why I have them marked on my phone's calendar with reminders," Dave said, waving his phone.

"Wait, you have our anniversary marked on your calendar?" Emma said.

"Well we don't have an anniversary yet but I'll make sure to Mark it after we get married," Dave said with a smile.

Emma didn't say anything as she stared at him with quite a straight face.

"What?" Dave asked.

"I love you, babe." She said, giving him a kiss.

"I love you too." He replied with a smile. "So what's that?" He asked, pointing at the plastic bag she had dropped on the table.

"I knew you would be hungry by now so I brought you something to eat before I made dinner," Emma said.

"You did? That's so sweet of you." Dave said.

"You should eat it now." She said,

Dave didn't reply as he had his gaze on the television screen now watching what seemed to be a killer goal.

A corner from Tereville United who were putting on a red jersey with little black designs had just been caught mid-air by Spree United's goalkeeper.

Spree United was putting on their home jersey which was a white top with blue shorts.

The goalkeeper caught the ball mid-air and that was all Spree United needed to create a counter-attack.

The goalkeeper quickly threw the ball to the player in the middle of the pitch who quickly nutmegged the defender behind him to get past him and now he was racing toward the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.

The keeper tried to rush out and clear the ball but that was the biggest mistake he had made as the player had quickly lobbed the ball over him to create what could be described as a wonder goal.

"What a goal," Emma said, shaking her head.

"Yeah, I just pray that doesn't happen against us on Tuesday," Dave said.

"Yeah, you guys are playing against them on Tuesday," Emma said.

"Yeah," Dave said.

"Just try your best, you guys will definitely come out on top, you've already beaten them this season, you can do it again," Emma said.

"I hope so."

Just then, his phone began to vibrate in his hand and when he checked the caller, he could see that it was Clark.

He picked up the call as he got up from the couch and began to walk towards the staircase.

"Hey Clark, what's up?" He asked, stopping in front of the staircase.

"I just did a little looking into all the kinds of stuff you need and I've made the calculations," Clark said.

"Okay, how much will they cost?" Dave asked.

"For every gym equipment you will need, the price will be three hundred thousand euros," Clark said.

"Three hundred thousand?" Dave said, sounding quite surprised.

"Yeah, these things are expensive," Clark said.

"Okay but how long are they going to take to get here?" Dave asked.

"Well, the store is in our city so it's just going to take a couple of hours to get to you," Clark said.

"Okay, place an order for all of them then," Dave said.

"Okay Dave, let me do that, I'll call you in the morning to give you more feedback," Clark said.

"Okay," Dave said, ending the call.

"Was that Clark?"

Dave was quite startled as he turned to see Emma standing behind him.

"Yeah," Dave said, sliding his phone into his pocket.

"What are you paying three hundred thousand euros for?" Emma asked.

"Okay, do you know that one thing you once asked me to get but I couldn't because I didn't have enough resources ?" Dave asked.

"One thing, are you talking about gym equipment?" Emma asked.

"Yeah," Dave said with a nod.

"That's a lot of things Dave, it's not just one thing," Emma said.

"Oh, yeah that's right," Dave said.

"So you're finally taking my advice and deciding to get things to improve yourself," Emma said.

"Yeah," Dave said.

"So when are they getting delivered?" Emma asked.

"Tomorrow, in the afternoon probably," Dave said.

"Okay, that's great," Emma said with a smile on her face.

"Yeah, now where's that thing you bought me, I'm starving?" Dave said, walking back to the couch.

____ ____

The next morning, Dave quickly got up from his bed quietly as always to avoid waking Emma as he quickly made his way down, and headed to the fridge where he took out two liters of bottled water and quickly took the content down into his system.

Next up was his two kilometers run and after completing two of his daily quests, he had gained another fifteen exp.

[ 55/200 exp ]

He lay on the grass and stared at his system screen for a while before deciding to get up and hear back to his house.

He got home to find Emma in the kitchen already preparing something and she had turned to him as soon as he entered the kitchen.

"You're back quite early today," Emma said with a smile.

"Well, since you're leaving today, I thought a little extra time with you would be nice," Dave said.

"Yeah….about that," Emma said with an awkward expression on her face.

"What?" Dave asked.

Emma was about to say something when Dave's phone began to ring in his pocket.

"That has to be Clark," Dave said as he quickly stuck his hand into his pocket and brought out his phone.

"Hello, Clark," Dave said after placing the phone against his ear.

"Yeah, hi Dave, could please come outside, I'm in front of your garage right now?" Clark said.

"You are?" Dave said quickly rushing outside.

"What?" Emma said quickly following him.

Dave got outside and headed toward his garage to see a black moving truck parked in front of it.

"Hey over here," Clark said, waving at him. He was standing in front of the garage door.

"Well, that was faster than I expected," Dave said.
