Chapter 8; New system mission
After Leinad got inside his smile disappeared and revealed a thoughtful look, he was drenched in sweat and his heart was in his throat just now, he wasn't worried about Heracles to him the guy was nothing but a small fry with big backing.
What kept him on edge was the appearance of that old man like a ghost. Others might not be able to notice the old man's realm unless he took initiative to release his aura but leinad was different after he was once a powerhouse himself so his eyesight was sharper, besides he had the live world map.
The live world map revealed everything close to him, people around him are indicated with a white shiny dot, the brighter the dot the more powerful the person.
And the old's man's white dot sparkled brilliantly, if Heracles dot on the live map could be compared to a dimly lit candle in the dark the old man's light could be compared to a dazzling sun at noon.
Meaning the Old man was powerful.
According to the memories of his predecessor, there were seven major realms each divided into three smaller stages.
Leinad had a feeling the man was at the sixth realm at least.
With that high cultivation level, he should at least be a high-ranking elder in Sparta Assembly of ee, or even someone close to one of Sparta's two kings.
'What is someone as powerful as him doing in this backwater part of Sparta ' Adriel mused
He quickly thought of a couple of reasons, he was either a powerful spy sent to assassinate high-ranking officials of Sparta or was hired by one of Sparta's enemies.
Asides from that he could be a Disgraced general who fled from battle and was too ashamed to report back.
If it was the former Leinad might get implicated and killed when he acts but if it was the latter it would be great if managed to get someone so powerful on his side this early.
"I should keep minding my business and avoid that ticking time bomb since he's not directly threatening my life yet, what I should be doing now is to quickly get strong enough anyways the all-seeing eyes didn't detect any ill intent from him' Leinad finally managed to suppress his uneasiness.
Afterward, he walked toward the bed and inspected his sleeping mom.
After making sure she was okay and asleep, he went to the couch and closed his eyes to cultivate.
After several hours he opened his eyes with a frown on his face, he found that secluding himself wasn't best for him now, his soul was used to fighting and he needed to experience the thrill of life-threatening battles to breakthrough.
As if knowing his dilemma a message popped up in front of him.
[New Apocalypse mission: the system has detected the appearance of a F class portal that poses a potential risk to regular humans of earth, Get over there and slay the monsters until the last man and stop them from crossing into the earth]
[Portal is 30 kilometers from hist current location]
[Clear condition: kill 20-foot soldier level monster(s) and 1 Knight level monster]
[Clear rewards: 1 low-grade spiritual crystal, receive 1 additional low-grade stone for any extra dozen foot soldiers or 1 extra knight level monster killed]
"so the portals have started appearing" Leinad lips curled upwards and a ruthless glint flashed in his eyes for a moment upon seeing the very generous rewards, the current him was too poor to afford good food or buy medicine or cultivate with, so the low-grade spiritual stone would be greatly beneficial to him to breakthrough and trade.
Leinad jumped off the couch, then he walk towards the corner of the room, he arrived before a box about 5 feet long and 2 inches wide.
He knelt to open the historic box.
>clang!<
Soon the box jumped open and exposed the content, it was a black scabbard housing a xiphos sword, the sword was exuding a sharp aura even though it was sheeth, that threatened to cleanly cut everything around it.
Leinad felt extremely comfortable and nostalgic when he felt that aura, he took the scabbard into his hands, it felt heavy even for him as a cultivator albeit weak, and with great difficulty he manage to unsheathed the 3 feet xipho swords.
It was a short sword at least if it was an adult wielding it, but for Leinad who was barely over 4 feet tall it was suitable, it was made with fine metal and the edges were so sharp that leinad felt he could split a tree in half with a casual swing.
Leinad closes his eyes feel the sword with his mind and then moments later
>xing xing<
The sword began humming slightly and as if a powerful monster woke up from Adriels body, he began to emit faint sword intent.
It was only for a moment though and leinad quickly suppressed it afraid he might hurt his mom or ruin their little home
**********
Elsewhere immediately after leinad's body leaked out sword intent many powerful swordsmen and hoplite in Sparta eyes widened in surprise.
"Who just mastered sword intent?" One powerhouse muttered and he stepped out of his house to see if he could trace the sword's intent.
"The sword intent was so faint and only lasted for a short time but it was undoubtedly the sharpest and ruthless sword intent I've ever felt, this person must have mastered it after experiencing countless battles! We need to find that swordmaster!" A whitehead old man with wrinkles said to his friend with a very serious tone.
"My child, keep your eyes out, there's a swordmaster in Sparta, I just felt his intent, if you ever encounter him treat him with respect and find a way to make him your mentor" a middle-aged man wearing luxurious ropes advised his son
Similar conversations happened all over Sparta, and many people even sent their helots to search but no one did.
Only the old man living close to leinads home managed to pinpoint where the sword's intent came from even though he was a little bit doubtful.
Currently, he was sitting inside his house but his eagle-like eyes gazed intently in Leinads house direction, surprisingly his gaze pierced through the wall and he was able to see inside leinad's home without a barrier.
Leinad felt a pair of eyes settle on him but he remained indifferent and acted like he didn't notice.
"Seems like he has taken the bait" Leinad smiled wryly in his heart.
