Chapter 18 - chapter 18 Black Cat

"How is that possible?" Boss Wu muttered unknowingly in a solemn voice. He could not believe that Lin Xi had gone back on her word.

She had previously assured him that Boss Wu would never have to fight for the Devil world again. He knew that he was a very scrumptious pawn in the eyes of the higher ups of the devil world.

Boss Wu had then reluctantly paid a very heavy price in order to avoid such a fate due to which Lin Xi had assured him that he would be free of their influence in the future.

All his delusions shattered at this very moment because Black Cat in front of him represented everything that he was the most afraid of.

He wanted to run away and not look back but he knew that the cat in front of him would never let him do that. Black Cat was the enforcer sent by the higher ups of the devil world to make sure that every demon and beast residing on Earth complied with their instructions.

If it had been some time in the past, Boss Wu who was known as "The Businessman" in the cultivation circle would never have been afraid of a lackey like the Black Cat.

After Boss Wu made the deal with Lin Xi, he had veered away from the cultivation path and had been living a comfortable life of a village shopkeeper. He had long since lost his edge and now he was very afraid.

Although he was terrified, Boss Wu could not just bow down to the devils. He decided to leave everything upto faith and just give his all to defeat the obstruction in front of him which was barring him from his freedom.

Black cat was silently watching him contemplate his options. A cruel light was flashing through its beastly eyes.

Although the cat had been sent by the higher ups as a messenger and an enforcer of their orders, it was silently hoping that Boss Wu would reject the summons and would retaliate so that it would get the chance to pummel the hateful bastard into the ground. It had been disgraced before at the hands of Boss Wu previously and was now looking for revenge.

Black Cat had recently become stronger beyond what it had previously deemed possible but the higher ups had rewarded it graciously for its services. This humbled the cat even more and turned it into a fanatic follower of the higher ups.

A slightly cruel smile appeared on the feline face of the black cat which appeared to be cunning at the same time. The cat knew that "The Businessman" was about to make his move.

It immediately lowered its body slightly to get ready to fight back. As soon as it did, there was a flash of light and the cat felt a hazy silhouette moving fast towards the exit.

Before Boss Wu could take a single step outside, he felt a huge force hit his abdomen which struck him to the ground. The intense pain almost made him lose consciousness but he grit his teeth and tried to stay awake.

Boss Wu was determined to escape. This one exchange showed him the clear difference in strength between the two, so he didn't bother trying to retaliate against the cat.

Boss Wu immediately put his hand in his pocket and took out some powder and threw it at the wall of the shop. There was a small explosion with a thundering sound and a huge gap opened up in the wall.

Without seeing how the cat reacted, Boss Wu immediately flew backwards to escape out of the hole.

Before he could cross the opening a whip slashed at him from the side and Boss Wu was once again sent flying towards the table lying at the center of the room and slammed into it.

The table that was made out of the ten thousands year old tree heart was splintered to pieces like a common twig.

At the same time a paper flew into the air due to the impact. It was the same calligraphy that was gifted to Boss Wu by Zhang Jian.

The wet ink had dried by now and anyone could easily make out the amount of effort that was put into the creation of such a marvelous piece.

Unfortunately, Boss Wu had no time to take a look at the gift that he had received.

The paper flew and fell in front of the cat which was now licking its tail that was smeared with the blood of its latest victim.

"I can't even remember what you were so famous for. "The Businessman" does not seem to live up to his name. Weren't you the so-called terrifying merchant who dealt with Blood and Bones?" The cat mocked Boss Wu with a sneer on his feline face.

"The Businessman" who had never made a loss in his life has turned soft towards a nameless kid. I guess you have lost your edge. Maybe the higher ups can make do without you." The cat licked its paw and threateningly moved towards Boss Wu with the intention of finishing him off.

As soon as the cat put its paw onto the paper that was in its way, the space around the cat locked preventing it from taking another step.

The cat was dumbfounded. It wanted to move but its body would not listen.

It moved its eyes towards the piece of paper since it was the only part of its body that was still listening to its commands. As soon as it did, its hair stood on end which made it feel a sense of absolute terror.

The careful brush strokes seemed to contain the profundities of the entire universe. A whole new world had opened up in front of the cat; a world full of numerous possibilities.

Every fiber of its existence was currently being filled with power. It was a power so vast and mighty that its own strength seemed minuscule in front of it. The cat felt that it had lucked out and had struck a fortune this time.

As soon as that thought struck its mind, the power that was filling up its body grew tens of thousands of times stronger.

The cat was madly absorbing this tremendous power. The power was starting to become unbearable but the continued to push itself past its limits.

Its whole body started to contort due to excess power that it was unable to absorb and soon grew out of proportion before exploding into pieces.

Not even its ashes could be found. Boss Wu who was seeing the whole fiasco with his bloodshot eyes could not believe what had happened right in front of him. He continued to lie there for some time, staring at the place where the cat had vanished from existence before shifting his attention to the piece of paper that had brought about this miracle.

Being "The Businessman" Boss Wu had seen many precious artifacts in his life but none of them came even close to the strength shown by this piece of art that had been gifted to him.

-------------------------------------------------------------

At this moment, two entities were shocked out of their minds at the thought of the great power that could have taken out the terrifying black cat. The cat might have looked harmless, but it was not the enforcer of the higher ups for nothing. The power of the cat could be seen through the trust placed in it by the higher ups. It had been carrying out their commands without failure for a long time now and yet it had been taken out without any commotion,

If the cat could portray its thoughts right now, it would have been cursing its fate for being killed by a painting after dauntlessly sailing through hundreds of bloody battles.

The two entities that could not overcome their shock at the shattering of the soul card of the same cat were Lin Xi and the Bluebird. They had been discussing how to take out Zheng Jian after their last failure when this surprising event took place.

Although they were shocked, this didn't affect them very much since they were only cooperating with the higher ups. The cat was nothing more than the contact point.

"There goes our contact with the higher ups. I wonder who was powerful enough to take out that obnoxious cat." Bluebird leisurely asked Lin Xi while mocking the fate of the cat at the same time.

"Don't worry about it. The cat must have provoked one of those terrifying beings out of their seclusion. Otherwise there is no way someone like that could exist on earth. It is a relief we don't have to deal with something like that. Let's just focus on how to deal with that bastard Zhang Jian first."

Lin Xi wasn't too worried. Their plan was bound to work, even those beings in seclusion would have to be worried about their survival let alone an upstart like Zhang Jian.
